Why are people immoral? Because they are not satisfied. In the world we fill ourselves with meaningless and temporary pleasures such as education, clothes, money, and religion. However the only way we can be truly filled is by drinking the Living Water that Jesus provides. In John 4, Jesus meets a Samaritan woman at a well and asks her for a drink. When she acts surprised that He, a Jew, would ask her for a drink, He replies,
If you knew the gift of God and who it is who says to you, Give Me a drink, you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.
The water Jesus gives us is living water, that is it enlivens us as well as filling us. It is eternal and will truly fill all voids we have inside of us.
Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall by no means thirst forever; but the water the water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water gushin up into eternal life. – John 4:14
If we’re not drinking Christ we will never be satisfied. Just as we are thirsty for Christ, He is also thirsty for us to drink of Him. The way to drink this living water is by repenting of our sins (John 4:16-17), contacting God the Spirit with our spirit (John 4:21-24), and by believing that Jesus is the Christ (John 4:25-26).
