This is what God desires – this is His good pleasure, the desire of His heart – to be the fountain of living waters that man may drink Him, enjoy Him, be filled with Him, and become His enlargement, His increase, His expression.
In His economy, God intends to be the fountain, the source, of living waters to satisfy His chosen people for their enjoyment. The goal of this enjoyment is to produce the church as God’s increase, God’s enlargement, to be God’s fullness for His expression!
We see this as a seed in Jeremiah 2:13 where it says,
For My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, to hew out for themselves cisterns, broken cisterns, which hold no water.
God does not deal mainly with the outward manifestations of His people’s behaviour – He deals and He cares for what they drink, what their source is! In the New Testament we see that we have been baptized into one Spirit (we got into the Spirit and we are lost in Him) and we were given to drink one Spirit (we take the Spirit in and have our whole being saturated with Him) – in 1 Cor. 12:13.
Also, in 1 Cor. 10:3-4 we see that Christ is our spiritual food and our spiritual drink for us to take in. Our drinking of God as the living water is for the church as His increase – we drink of God as the living waters so that we may become the church, the increase of God! This is what He desires!
But on our side, we have failed God by committing these two evils: forsaking God as the fountain of living waters and hewing out for ourselves cisterns – broken cisterns – that hold no water. Many times we forsake God as the fountain of living waters and try to drink of other things to be satisfied.
But apart from God as the fountain of living waters nothing can quench our thirst – nothing can satisfy us! Nothing apart from God Himself dispensed into us as the living water can make us His increase for His expression!
What a wonderful heart’s desire our God has! He wants to be the fountain of living waters that we may drink of Him and live! As we drink, we’re being constituted into His corporate expression, His enlargement, His duplication! God’s purpose is being accomplished by our drinking of Him as the living water.
And God is faithful to remove and deal with any other thing that rises up to be our “source of water”. He wants to deal with all other fountains so that He may be our only source of living water!
God is faithful in leading us into His economy, and His economy is for us to drink Christ, to eat Christ, to enjoy Christ, to absorb Christ, and to assimilate Christ that God may have His increase with us to fulfill His economy.
As His chosen people, we are part of His economy – Him being dispensed into us to produce the church as His glorious expression! Our destiny is to drink God and express God for eternity!

Thank You Lord for becoming the fountain of living waters for us to drink! Save us from committing these two evils in Your eyes! Save us from forsaking You as the fountain of living waters! Save us from hewing out other cisterns – which actually hold no water! Lord, only You as living water satisfy us! Only You as living water accomplish God’s purpose! Only by drinking God as the fountain of living waters You can have Your corporate expression on the earth! Lord, keep us drinking of You today!
