May we Continually Choose Christ and all that He is as our Super-Excelling Portion

...And if you bring out the precious from the worthless, / You will be as My mouth... Jer. 15:19

We need to ask the Lord to grant us the light to have a thorough change in our concept of value so that, day by day, we may continually choose Christ and all that He is as our super-excelling portion, for we treasure Christ above all things, even above our relatives, family members, and even more than our apportioned food!

Oh Lord Jesus, cause us to see You more so that we may have a fuller appreciation of who You are. Unveil us to see the Lord Jesus, the most wonderful One! Grant us the light so that we may have a thorough change in our concept of value. Oh Lord, may we continually choose Christ today and may we choose all that Christ is in His word to us as our super-excelling portion! Amen, Lord, we love You! Amen!

No matter what happens around us, no matter our failures, and even no matter how good our experience was yesterday, we need to go on with the Lord and enjoy Him in a fresh way today.

Our Christ is the Christ now, the Christ who is the life-giving Spirit to be our life-supply in our spirit now.

When we believed into the Lord Jesus, when we were unveiled to see the supreme preciousness of Christ, we simply dropped everything else and chose Him.

Ever since, our concept of value is being changed so that we may value what God values and disregard what God disregards.

We are like the apostle Paul: what things were gains to us before, now we count as loss on account of the excellency of the knowledge of Christ, our Lord.

We all can testify that, as we come to the Lord in His word and as we open to Him throughout the day, the Lord is more and more precious to us. Not only is He available, rich, and sweet, but He is practical, living, and precious.

When we turn to Him in all things, when we simply have an inward turn by calling on His name, He shows us His beauty, we see His preciousness, and we consider Him as being a supremely precious One for our enjoyment and experience.

But when we do not contact the Lord, when we are so busy or forgetful that we don’t freshly turn to our spirit to absorb His riches, the Lord seems to be so distant to us.

The world today is drawing us with many things, our responsibilities and chores are so many, and there are many necessary things that need to be taken care of.

However, in the midst of all these things, we believers in Christ have a change in our concept of value. We value Christ and what is of Christ as the most precious things, and everything else fades away. Amen, Lord Jesus, we love You!

We Value Christ more Precious than our Family and Relatives, More Precious than all things, and He’s the Treasure of Justice!

He who loves father or mother above Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter above Me is not worthy of Me; And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. Matt. 10:37-38

In Matthew 10:37-38 and Luke 18:26-30 the Lord Jesus told His disciples that, if anyone wants to follow Him, he needs to value Him and treasure Him more than his own relatives and family members.

We believers in Christ need to value the Lord Jesus more than our own relatives.

Our father, mother, wife, husband, children, and relatives are the most precious things to a man; they are the most important things in his life.

When these are not compared to the Lord, there’s nothing wrong with loving them. But when a situation arises where we have to choose between the two, which one will we choose?

When we have our value system updated to be the same as the Lord’s, we will choose Christ and value Christ more precious than anything else (Matt. 10:37-38; Luke 18:26-30; 1 Pet. 1:1, 17; 2:11).

We can all testify that, as believers in Christ, many times even those in our own family dislike us or despise us, seeking to persecute us and tell us off because of our faith in Christ.

Before we were saved, they liked us, but after we got saved, we became unpopular. Oh Lord!

Instead of trying to be more “normal” and not live Christ around them, we need to all the more value Christ and seek to live Christ before our family, even to impart something of Christ to them, for we value Christ above all things.

We may even preach the gospel to our unsaved relatives, for we want to testify of the most precious One.

As we spend time with the Lord, our valuation of Christ as the treasure of justice will be more than our appreciation for any earthly treasure (Job 22:23-28; Matt. 12:18-21; Isa. 42:1-4; 1 Pet. 1:18-20).

If we return to the Lord, we will be built up, and if we place our gold nuggets in the dust, then the Lord Himself will be our gold nuggets and precious silver to us.

The Lord is our treasure of justice. We need to have a change in our valuation of things.

As we are tested at a critical juncture in our life, we need to treasure and value Christ more than any earthly treasures.

When we choose Christ and treasure Him, we will delight ourselves in Him, we will lift our countenance to God, we will pray to Him and He will hear us, and He will shine on us in all our ways.

May we daily choose the Lord by spending time with Him in His word to treasure Him above all things. We treasure Him and even treasure the knowledge of Christ above all things (Phil. 3:8; 2 Pet. 1:2-3, 8; 2:20; 3:18).

Nothing else compares to Him. The apostle Paul pursued to gain Christ, and on account of the excellency of the knowledge of Christ, he was willing to suffer the loss of all things, for he valued Christ more than anything else. Amen!

If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up. / If you put injustice far away from your tents, And place your gold nuggets in the dust / And your gold of Ophir in the stones of the brooks, Then the Almighty will be your gold nuggets / And precious silver to you. For then you will delight yourself in the Almighty, / And you will lift up your countenance to God. Job 22:23-26Similarly, as Peter tells us, we have not seen the Lord, but we love Him, and though we do not see Him at present, we believe into Him, and we exult with joy that is unspeakable and full of glory!

When we turn to our spirit and contact the Lord, when we simply call on the Lord’s name throughout the day, we touch the most precious One, and we are filled with an appreciation of His utmost worth. Amen!

We need a vision to see that the New Jerusalem is the Triune God, the Divine Trinity, as three basic factors wrought into us and structured together with us, His redeemed people, as a miraculous structure of treasure to be the conclusion of the whole Bible (Rev. 21:18-21; cf. 1 Cor. 3:12). Amen!

Wow, when we look at the New Jerusalem, we see both God and man built together as a treasure, even a structure of treasure.

The gold as the base of the city typifies God the Father, the pearls as the gates of the city typify God the Son, and the jasper wall of the city typifies God the Spirit.

Today we are in the process of being built up in God and with God together with the saints so that we may become part of the New Jerusalem. This is our real treasure, even the genuine treasure in the universe! Amen!

Lord Jesus, we love You! We treasure You. We value You. You are the most precious One. Grant us to see a vision of who You are so that we may appreciate You even more. Change our concept of value so that we may value Christ more than we value even our own family and our relatives. Amen, Lord, we love You, we love our family members, but when we have to choose between the two, we treasure You more than anything and anyone else! You are our treasure; You are our treasure of justice, and we love to just spend time with You. We do not treasure the earthly things, possessions, and riches; we treasure You more than anything else. Oh Lord, what things were gains to us, these we count as loss on account of the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus, our Lord! We love You, Lord Jesus! You are the most valuable and precious One to us! Praise You for working in us and for working Yourself into us to make us part of Your treasure, the New Jerusalem, the miraculous structure of treasure! Praise the Lord!

Lord, Grant us the Light to have a Thorough Change in our Concept of Value so that we Continually Choose Christ and all that He is as our Super-Excelling Portion!

Whom having not seen, you love; into whom though not seeing Him at present, yet believing, you exult with joy that is unspeakable and full of glory. 1 Pet. 1:8

How can we value Christ above all things?

Especially as we live in this increasingly material-focused world, even a world that encourages and motivates others to focus on wealth, feelings, entertainment, and other outward things, how can we treasure Christ more than anything else?

We need to come to the Lord and ask Him to grant us the light to have a thorough change in our concept of value so that we will continually choose Christ and all that He is as our super-excelling portion (Mark 9:7-8; 2 Cor. 2:10; 4:7; 1 Pet. 1:8).

And a cloud appeared, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud: This is My Son, the Beloved. Hear Him! And suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone, but Jesus only with them. Mark 9:7-8We may not treasure outward things but we may treasure spiritual things, as Peter did on the Mount of Transfiguration; he realised that he saw Jesus speaking with Moses and Elijah, and he suggested making three tents there, for it’s good to be there.

Peter is truly our representative, so genuine, so frank, yet so quick to react and fail; we all are this way.

Here he was, with the Lord Jesus whose face was shining like the sun, and Moses and Elijah were there, conversing with Him concerning His death. Wow.

They knew He would die, and they had some fellowship with Him about it. Peter treasured all three of them equally, but the Father delights only in Christ, for He is His Beloved, the One in whom He finds all His delight.

We may treasure this or that doctrine, and we may really love this or that Christian practice or even Christian teacher, all of which are spiritual, ethical, moral, and very positive.

But we need to see Christ, for only Christ is the Father’s Beloved.

We need to ask the Lord to grant us the light for us to have a change in our concept of value so that we may continually choose Christ and all that He is as our super-excelling portion.

We want to see Christ. We want to enjoy Christ. And we tell the Lord to be our most precious One, even to unveil us to see His preciousness.

It is only when we see Him that we leave all other things, even drop anything else, to give ourselves to enjoy Him and experience Him to the uttermost.

He is our super-excelling portion, and we choose Him as the most precious One!

In Jeremiah 15:19 the Lord said, If you bring out the precious from the worthless, / You will be as My mouth (see v. 16 also).

When the Lord is the most precious One, we will seek to bring out the precious from the worthless.

There are so many “shiny” and seemingly precious things today, but Christ is preciousness itself; when we come to Him in His word and gain Him as the precious One, we will continually choose Christ and all that He is as our super-excelling portion.

We will minister Him to others, for we treasure Him and we want them to gain this treasure also.

May we be those who treasure the Lord’s words more than our apportioned food, tasting the Lord in His word as the reality of the good land flowing with nourishing milk and fresh honey for us to dispense to God’s people for their full salvation (Job 23:12; 1 Pet. 2:2-5; Psa. 119:103; Deut. 8:8; S. S. 4:11).

Wow, He is more precious to us than our apportioned food! When we taste Him in HIs word, we realise He is so rich to us. We enjoy His riches. We are constituted with His riches.

The law of Your mouth is better to me / Than thousands of pieces of gold and silver. Psa. 119:72 To me, less than the least of all saints, was this grace given to announce to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ as the gospel. Eph. 3:8We continually choose Christ and all that He is as our portion. When we come to the Lord in His word, when we choose to spend time with Him to partake of His riches, we will treasure Him more than anything else.

We will treasure the Lord’s words more than all earthly riches so that we can speak oracles of God to dispense the unsearchable riches of Christ as the varied grace of God (Psa. 119:72, 9-16; Eph. 3:8; 2 Cor. 6:10; 1 Pet. 4:10-11).

Earthly riches come and go, and we cannot hold on to them; they are here today and gone tomorrow. The real riches is Christ Himself and HIs words. We treasure Christ and we treasure His word.

The riches of Christ are embodied in His word, and when we read and pray over His word, we taste His riches, we enjoy the Lord as our food and nourishment, and we are constituted with Him!

Then, when we meet others, we speak oracles of God, for we dispense something of the riches of Christ to others.

May we come back to the Lord again and again in His word with the exercise of our spirit so that we may enjoy Him, be filled with an appreciation of who He is, and just partake of His riches.

We may even tell the Lord to do this in us, telling Him,

Lord Jesus, grant us the light to have a thorough change in our concept of value so that we will continually choose Christ and all that He is as our super-excelling portion! Oh Lord Jesus, we love You and we come to You in Your word! We love to come to You as we come to Your word, for You are so rich to us! You are our God-allotted portion. You and all that You are are our super-excelling portion! Nothing compares to You! You are the precious One and everything else is worthless. We treasure You and Your words. May we treasure Your words more than our apportioned food. May we taste the Lord in His words as the reality of the good land flowing with milk and honey! Amen, Lord, we want to eat You, drink You, and taste Your riches in Your word so that we may be constituted with Your riches and dispense Your riches! Oh, Your words are more precious than any earthly riches! We love You and we love Your word! We love to be filled with You and to dispense Your riches as the varied grace of God to others!

Philippians 3:7-8 says, “But what things were gains to me, these I have counted as loss on account of Christ. But moreover I also count all things to be loss on account of the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, on account of whom I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as refuse that I may gain Christ.” Here we see that Paul also had a change in his concept of value. What things were gains to him, these he counted as loss on account of Christ…[and] of the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus.

Jeremiah 15:19…tell[s] us that if we bring out the precious from the worthless, we will be as God’s mouth. If we cannot tell the proper value of things, God will reject us and cast us aside…We have to see the importance of such a change in concept of value. May the Lord grant us the light to have a thorough change in our concept of value so that we will know to choose the most excellent portion.

Amen! What things were gain to us should be discarded in favour of the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus.

May the Lord grant us the light to esteem Him above all things & persons so that we would become useful to Him, and even be His mouth.

Amen! His word is not always easy or enjoyable, but we can’t live by anything else. With anything else, we only try to delay dying.

His words, however, are Spirit and life. By His holy word we live.

That makes Him so precious to us.

Oh Lord, we love You.

Our Lord is more precious than anything and anyone.

What things we sometimes count as gains are loss on account of Christ, if we can’t see the proper value then we will be rejected and cast aside.

We need a change in our concept in our valuation!

“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellency of the power may be of God and not out of us.” (2 Corinthians 4:7)

Jer.15:19 Therefore, thus says Jehovah,…If you bring out the precious from the worthless, you will be as My mouth…

May the Lord grant us the light to have a thorough change in our concept of value so that we will know how to choose the most excellent portion.

Brothers & sisters,

> How is our valuation of the Lord Jesus compared with our earthly things?

> Which one will we choose when a situation arises?

… If you bring out the precious from the worthless, you will be My mouth. (Jeremiah 15:19)

For example:

In our walk of life our own kin are precious, but they are no comparison to the Lord. Our Lord is more precious than any of our kin.

Are you ready for this??? Think over!

A very good new song on this topic is, What things were gains to me:

1. What things were gains to me,
These I now count as loss.
Jesus has set me free
From what I was!
All of the things I had;
Everything, good or bad,
I count as refuse
That I may gain Christ!

I won’t give up!
I will keep running until
I have attained
The goal of my calling!
I must press on!
I must pursue until
I lay hold of Him
Who laid hold of me!

2. Forget the things behind!
Stretch for the things before!
Press onward with this mind:
Always want more!
Seeking in Him to grow,
Increasingly to know
Him that I daily might
Be found in Christ.

Gaining Christ by Pursuing Him – This set of fifteen free eBooklets, “Gaining Christ by Pursuing Him,” focuses on our experience of Christ as revealed in chapters 3 and 4 of Philippians.

“Not many Christians speak of their conversion in the way Paul spoke of his. Have you ever heard anyone say that at the time he was converted Christ gained him so that he might gain Christ? We need to realize that Christ has gained us that we might gain Him. Then we need to use Paul’s expression to uplift our conversation about conversion. Christ gained us not merely for the sake of forgiveness, redemption, salvation, or heaven. I repeat, He gained us for the definite purpose that we might gain Him…

“Christ wants us to gain Him. The Lord’s aim in His salvation is to seize us that we might take full possession of Him. Not even when Paul was writing to the Philippians did he regard himself as having gained Christ in a full way. Rather, he was still pursuing Christ in order to gain Him.”

Witness Lee, Life-study of Philippians, pp. 191-192

The Apostle Paul said, “I pursue, if also I may obtain that for which I have been obtained by Christ Jesus” (v. 12, Gk.). Christ has obtained us that we may obtain Him. One day we repented and believed in Christ. According to our feeling, we were saved, but according to Christ’s realization, we were captured by Him. Christ has taken possession of us, not that we may go to heaven or be good Christians, but that we may obtain Him. We need to pursue Him so that we may lay hold of that for which we have been laid hold of by Him. Therefore, we should say, “Lord, I thank You for obtaining me. You have obtained me so that I may obtain You. This was Your purpose in taking possession of me.”

As we have pointed out, the best way to obtain Christ is to eat Him. He desires that we eat more and more of Him. In order to eat Christ, we must deny whatever we are, whatever we have, and whatever we are able to do. This is the way to obtain that for which we have been obtained by Christ.

It is not simply a matter of learning Christ, but of taking possession of Him. By denying all that we are naturally, we take possession of Him. We must deny not only our hatred, but also our love; not only our pride, but also our humility; not only our dullness, but also our intelligence. The way to enjoy Christ is to deny everything that we are by nature.

Once a person is saved, his concept of value changes. He no longer cherishes what he once cherished, and he treasures what he once despised. This is a change in his concept of value. The Bible has much to say concerning a change in one’s concept of value. Such passages on this change can shed light to the new believers. These passages show us the proper concept of value for a

Christian. eyes of the builders, they rejected what they considered to be Psalm 118:22 [indicates]…a change in valuation. In the a useless stone. In the eyes of the Jewish leaders. Christ was this rejected stone was chosen to be the cornerstone of the something redundant, and they wanted to get rid of Him. Yet newly enacted salvation…God treasured the cornerstone that was rejected by the Jewish builders and used it for the building of His salvation. How different are these two kinds of valuation! We have to bring new believers to such a change in valuation. We have to ask how they viewed Christ before and how they view Christ now. We have to show them that what was once worthless is now priceless…Others have rejected Christ, but we treasure Him.

First Corinthians 1:18 says, “For the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”… Before a person is saved, he considers the cross useless. After he is saved, he sees it as the power of God, something precious and valuable. Once a person believes in the Lord, his concept of value changes immediately. The salvation of the cross becomes something very precious.

Matthew 6:32-33 says, “For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”… Things pertaining to food and clothing are the greatest concerns of the human life. No unbeliever is an exception to this. But as soon as a person believes in the Lord, he turns to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. As believers, we have to realize that nothing in this life is more precious than the kingdom of God. Matthew 13:44 says that the kingdom of the heavens is like a treasure hidden in the field. When a man finds it, he hides it and in his joy sells all that he has to buy that field. This refers to the Lord’s discovering the treasure of the kingdom of the heavens and giving up Himself and all He has to buy the treasure. The Lord considers the kingdom of the heavens as something precious. Yet man does not treasure it. Only a believer with the Lord’s view knows the preciousness of the kingdom of the heavens.
