The Lord Jesus as the Servant of Jehovah did not speak His own words and did not do His own work – He spoke the words of God and He did the work of the Father. He was instructed by God in the morning, in His time with the Father, and this is what He spoke.
Because He spent time with God in private, being infused with God and being instructed by God, the Lord Jesus could sustain the weary with a word. He didn’t need to give a long message – just a simple word saved people and sustained the weary.
This is the impact of having a genuine time with the Lord in the morning…. Here is what Isaiah 50:4-5 says,
The Lord Jehovah has given me the tongue of the instructed, that I should know how to sustain the weary with a word. He awakens me morning by morning; He awakens my ear to hear as an instructed one. The Lord Jehovah has opened my ear; and I was not rebellious, nor did I turn back.
Today we also need to be those who spend time with the Lord personally in the morning that we may be instructed by Him – how much we need an ear to hear! We don’t need to “speak” as much – we need much more to hear! We can speak to others because we hear, and we speak what we hear!
The proper speaking for sustaining and building up comes from our proper hearing from the Lord. When someone comes to us with a situation or maybe someone seeks some help, we need to pray for this person and come to the Lord for a timely word to speak to him… After we have been dealt with by the Lord, we will have a tongue that can offer a word to rescue others, sustain the weary ones, and comfort others.
This is not a “teaching” and we do not speak as “a professor” – rather, we speak as an instructed one, someone who is in a continual training of hearing and speaking, listening to the Lord and then speaking to others. For this we need to not be rebellious when the Lord speaks to us, and also not to turn back from His word!
We just need to allow the Lord to speak to us, speak into us, and let His word dwell in us richly. The more we hear from the Lord, the more we listen to Him, the more we realize that we are nothing, we can do nothing, and we really can’t help anyone by our words.
What can we say or do in and of ourselves in order to help others or even help ourselves? We need the Lord Jesus as the Servant of Jehovah to come in and replace us, speak in us, and comfort, sustain, and encourage others through us.

Lord Jesus, awaken us morning by morning to spend time with You and listen to You! Awaken our ear to hear as an instructed one! Lord, open our ear to hear You and listen to You! We really have nothing in ourselves and of ourselves… We just come to You, Lord, to hear from You and be instructed by You! Make us the duplication of Yourself as the Servant of Jehovah! Make us those who can sustain the weary with a word, those who can comfort others with the comforting we have been comforted! We just open to You, Lord, concerning this!
