being awakened by God to spend time with Him and speaking as an instructed one

February 26, 2011 by aGodMan 3 Comments

The prophet Isaiah also typifies Christ as the Servant of Jehovah – he is a type of Christ especially in the aspect of witnessing for God and speaking for God. Christ is the One who speaks for God and He even is the Word of God. When the Bible speaks of Isaiah as the servant of Jehovah here is what it says in Isaiah 50:4-5,

4. The Lord Jehovah has given me The tongue of the instructed, That I should know how to sustain the weary with a word. He awakens me morning by morning; He awakens my ear To hear as an instructed one.
5. The Lord Jehovah has opened my ear; And I was not rebellious, Nor did I turn back.

First of all, for us to speak for God we need to be awakened by God in the morning – we first need to spend time with the Lord early in the morning! We don’t speak for Him first – we first listen to Him! We need to ask the Lord to wake us up in the morning to have a personal time with Him.

In the morning, no matter what happens and how many things we need to take care of in that day, we need to spend some time with the Lord – to touch Him early in the morning, even first thing in the morning! Lord, keep us as an arrow in Your quiver – keep us in fellowship with You first thing in the morning!

The Lord Jesus first spent time with the Father – He even woke up while it was dark and spent time with God in a place where no one and nothing can distract Him. It is the same for us – we need to find a place every day where we can “hide ourselves from anything that can distract us” and spend some time with the Lord!

In order for us to be God’s witnesses and His testimony, before we can speak for God, we need to spend time with the Lord and allow Him to speak to us! We need to allow Him to instruct us, correct us, enlighten us, shine on us, and speak to us…

The second thing we see in this portion is that Isaiah did not speak as a “teacher” or as “someone who knows what he’s talking about” – Isaiah was awakened by the Lord to hear as an instructed one, and he spoke as an instructed one! The moment we think we know something, we actually know nothing.

In the spiritual realm is not as in the physical realm where, the more you know, the more you can speak and teach others… In the spiritual realm we need to continually empty ourselves and allow the Lord to instruct us, even give us the attitude and the tongue of an instructed one.

We are a “trainee”, a “learner”. As believers, we’re learning from the Lord and in the church life all the time – we don’t “KNOW” everything and we don’t speak as professors – rather, we need to learn to speak as trainees, as learners, as those who are being instructed!

In order for us to speak a word to sustain the weary, we need to have the tongue of an instructed one. This is why our time with the Lord in the morning is so precious – we come to Him to learn from Him, to allow Him to instruct us, and to ask of Him.

As we spend time with Him, we realize that we really don’t know anything – we need Him to give us “the tongue of an instructed one”. Even as we speak, we need to have the attitude of humility – considering and confessing that we ourselves don’t know much, and we actually received all that we speak.

These are the two main things that struck me this morning as I was enjoying the Holy Word for the Morning Revival on the Crystallization-Study of Isaiah (2) – Isaiah as a type of Christ and also a type of us needed the Lord to awake him in the morning to spend time with Him and be infused with Him, even to receive the tongue of an instructed one…. and when he spoke, he spoke as an instructed one, as a learner, since he didn’t have anything in and of himself – all he had to say was from the Lord and was the Lord’s speaking!

When we deny ourselves and learn from the Lord, who didn’t speak from Himself but from the Father, we also will have a word to sustain the weary and we will speak as a learning one, a trainee, someone who is being continually instructed by the Lord. [enjoyment from the Life-Study of Isaiah, msg. 45]

Lord, make us those like Isaiah – those who spend time with You! Lord, we really need You to wake us up in the morning to spend personal time with You! We have nothing and we are nothing without Your speaking and Your instruction! Lord, give us the tongue of an instructed one, that we may know how to sustain the weary with a word! Lord, awaken our ear to hear as an instructed one! Save us from being rebellious or turning back – keep us in Your presence, listening to You and speaking what we hear from You!

Speak lord your slave is listening. I love my master I love my wife and I love my children and don’t wish to go out free, but always willingly to serve the to the end.
