This is the first part of the sharing by brother A. P. in the series of “Morning by Morning – Morning Watch and Morning Revival”.
Every morning the married couple I stayed with would get up and leave. About 45 minutes later they returned. As their guest they didn’t wake me plus I had just gotten out of the hospital and needed a lot of rest.
“Where do you go every morning?” I asked.
“We go downstairs to have morning watch,” the brother said.
“What is morning watch?”
Once I learned about the practice to touch the Lord first thing in the morning, I wanted in. They tried to discourage me since I needed rest and it was so early, etc. The next morning I was up when they were. I hobbled with my crutches down the stairs to be with several others in a living room.
A few weeks later, I realized I needed to have more own personal time before being with other believers. From then on, I have been practicing a personal morning time.
Morning Revival
I don’t know when “morning watch” changed to “morning revival”. I do know when I saw the importance of using the printed material for the purpose of developing a daily time of being intimate with the Lord in His word.
It was during my first term of the Middle Age Training in Anaheim. In our weekly “Prophesying Class” we were required to practice a 3 minute sharing from the weekly material without using our notes. This was challenging and a good practice that I have tried to keep. To be, “Revived every morning and overcome every day.”
Every Morning
I make a point of getting to bed early so I can rise early. Watchman Nee said, “You can’t burn a candle at both ends.” My experience is the early morning before I do anything or say anything to anyone is the best and most precious time to touch the Lord.
My focus is touch the Lord, not to read the material or to have something to share on the Lord’s Day. The outline, the daily verses and reading are a guide to help me make to exercise my spirit to eat and drink the Spirit. Hymn #812 verse 5 is a great reminder and touchstone for me.
Lord, I would linger here,
Still seeking after Thee,
Continue in the Word and prayer
Till Thou dost flow thru me.
