Overcomers Hasten Christ’s Return as King to Raise up the Fallen Tabernacle of David

After these things I will return, and I will rebuild the tabernacle of David which has fallen; and I will rebuild its ruins and erect it again. Acts 15:16

Christ will come and raise up the fallen tabernacle of David – He will restore the fallen kingdom of David to set up His kingdom for the restoration of the entire universe, and all the nations will become God’s people! Wow, Hallelujah!

This week as we have been studying in a prayerful way the history of David and seeing how he typifies Christ in so many aspects and in so many ways, I am amazed at the Bible as the Word of God.

No one could have done this; no one could have ordained that such a person as David would come, and he would typify the real David, which is Christ.

Yes, David had flaws and sins, and he had at least two great failures; apart from these, however, he typified Christ both in his ups and downs, in his glory and in his sufferings, in his experience of being persecuted and being enthroned.

David is really the most thorough type of Christ revealed in the Old Testament, covering the longest period of time, and in Matt. 12:3 the Lord said that He is the real David.

Christ is greater than all the types, greater than all the things and persons in the Old Testament; He is greater than David, and David was just a type of Christ.

David had followers, and Christ has followers; David and his followers were persecuted and rejected, and Christ and His followers were and still are persecuted and rejected.

David brought in a dispensational change from the age of the priests to the age of the kings; Christ also brought in a dispensational change from the age of the law to the age of grace.

David is called “the king” because it was through him that the kingdom was brought in; Jesus Christ is the real King of the kingdom of God, for He brings in the kingdom of God on earth.

David suffered and prayed to God in his suffering; Christ also suffered, and He quoted David’s prayer in his psalms as He was suffering on the cross.

God answered David’s prayer by raising him to the throne, and God answered Christ’s prayer by raising Him from the dead and ascending Him to the highest, even to the right hand of God.

David typifies Christ even in his last words, and Christ is the real King who will rule among men righteously with the fear of God.

David the king is a type of Christ as the King; He is the fighting King, He won the victory over all His enemies, He gained the land, and He prepares the believers as the materials to build up the church.

When the prophets spoke about David the king, they actually spoke concerning David and Christ being one.

When God promised David that it was his seed that will build God a house, and He will be His father and He will be His son, He was referring to Christ.

David was a shepherd and a king to the people of Israel, and Christ is the Good Shepherd and the heavenly King for the people of God. Hallelujah!

Even in the millennium, as prophesied by many prophets, Christ will be the real David to rule over the whole universe: He will rule in the heavenly part of the kingdom together with the overcomers as the co-kings, and He will rule as the Son of Man in the earthly part of the millennium over Israel with the converted Jewish people as the priests.

God promised David that his kingdom will remain forever and that his throne will be established forever; David’s kingdom is Christ’s kingdom, and David’s throne is Christ’s throne, for Christ’s throne and kingdom will remain forever, being established by God.

Wow, what a Christ! What a rich type we see in David, and what an amazing fulfillment and application we see in Christ!

Christ as the King will Raise up the fallen Tabernacle of David to Set up His Kingdom for the Restoration of the Entire Universe

I will establish your seed forever, / And I will build up your throne from generation to generation. Psa. 89:4

In Amos 9:11-12 the Lord promised that He will raise up the fallen tabernacle of David, and He will wall up its breaches and raise up its ruins and build it up as it was in the days of old, with the result that they may possess the nations.

This portion was quoted in Acts 15 by James when the apostles and the elders were gathered together to solve the problem of circumcision.

This promise made in Amos, this prophecy, is fulfilled by Christ as the King; He will come to raise up the fallen tabernacle of David and to set up His kingdom for the restoration of the entire universe.

The tabernacle of David is the kingdom of David and the royal family of David; in ancient times it was hard to separate the royal family from the kingdom.

In that day I will raise up / The fallen tabernacle of David, / And I will wall up its breaches / And raise up its ruins / And build it up as [it was] in the days of old; That they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations which are called by My name, declares Jehovah who does this. Amos 9:11-12David’s kingdom was his royal family; this fell when Nebuchadnezzar came to capture the nation of Israel, devastate the land, burn the city of Jerusalem, destroy the temple, and carry off the king and the people into captivity.

When this happened, the kingdom of David and the royal family of David fell; what we have now is the fallen tabernacle of David.

So God came in to promise in this portion in Amos that one day He would come back to restore the fallen kingdom of David, and all the nations will be called by the name of Jehovah.

This indicates that one day Christ will come back to be the real David; in His last appearing, He will be the real David to restore the fallen tabernacle of David, that is, to restore His kingdom and His royal family.

And all the nations will be called by the name of Jehovah, for all the nations will belong to God.

Based on this, James told the Jewish believers in Acts 15 not to be bothered by Peter’s and Paul’s going to the Gentiles, for in restoration all the Gentiles will belong to God, just like the Jews.

Hallelujah, Christ will come and restore the fallen kingdom of David, the fallen tabernacle of David, to set up His kingdom for the restoration of the entire universe! And at that time, all the nations will become God’s people.

This is such a comfort to the Jewish people, who are still praying and yearning for the time when the Messiah comes (He has come, but He will come again) to restore the fallen tabernacle of David.

When Christ returns with His overcomers and will end this age, He will bring in the millennial kingdom which will have two sections: the heavenly and the earthly section.

The earthly section of the millennial kingdom will be the restored kingdom of Israel – the kingdom of David (Acts 1:6; Mark 11:10).

God promised in the Old Testament to the Jewish people that Messiah, the One anointed by God, will come to inherit the throne of David and restore the Jewish nation (the nation of Israel, see Gen. 49:10; 2 Sam. 7:13, 16; Psa. 2:8-9; 72:1-20; 89:4; 110:2-3; Isa. 9:6-7; 11:1-5, 10; Jer. 23:5-6; 30:9; 33:14-17; Ezek. 21:27; 34:23-24; 37:24-25; Dan. 2:35; 7:14; Hosea 3:5; Amos 9:11-12; Zech. 3:8; 6:12-13; 9:9-10).

For I say to you, You shall by no means see Me from now on until you say, Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. Matt. 23:39 Afterward the children of Israel will return and seek Jehovah their God and David their King, and they will come with fear to Jehovah and to His goodness in the last days. Hosea 3:5Actually, the Jewish people were expecting that the Lord Jesus would do this when He came for the first time; they were expecting for Messiah to restore His kingdom (Luke 2:25; 3:15; 7:19; John 1:41; 7:27, 41).

But Messiah – which is Christ – will do this only at His second coming (Matt. 23:39); the kingdom that He will restore will be the earthly part of the millennium, the tabernacle of David which the Lord will rebuild (Acts 15:16).

When the Lord returns, the earthly part of the millennial kingdom will be the Lord restoring the fallen tabernacle of David, for He will sit on the throne of David and reign over the house of Jacob, that is, the Jewish people (Luke 1:32-33), and He will rule over the nations of the earth during the millennium (Psa. 2:8; 72:8; Dan. 7:14; 2:35).

In the heavenly section of the millennial kingdom, the overcomers will be co-kings with Christ to rule over the whole universe.

In the earthly section of the millennial kingdom, the converted Jewish people will be the priests, and the nations (who will be restituted, restored, and preserved) will be the people. Hallelujah!

And Christ will restore the fallen tabernacle of David and rule!

The whole creation will be restored, there will be no more war, and the earth will be full of peace. How marvellous and glorious will that kingdom be! Praise the Lord!

Lord Jesus, we are looking forward to the age of restoration when You will restore the fallen tabernacle of David and will rule in the kingdom! Amen, Lord, make us Your overcomers today, those who will return with You to bring in the millennial kingdom. Bring in the age when all creation will be restored, there will be no more war, and the earth will be full of peace! Come, Lord Jesus! Prepare us for Your return! Make us ready and make us those who return with You to bring in the kingdom of God! Yes, Lord, make us those who overcome today so that we may reign with You in the millennium!

Being the Overcomers who Hasten the Lord’s Return to Reign as the real David, the King of the Kingdom of God

And to Him was given dominion, glory, and a kingdom, / That all the peoples, nations, and languages might serve Him. / His dominion is an eternal dominion, which will not pass away; / And His kingdom is one that will not be destroyed. Dan. 7:14

David is such a rich type of Christ; his life and experience and words are a thorough type of Christ, who is the real David.

Just as David sat on the throne and ruled over the people of God, so Christ will return and restore the fallen tabernacle of David and will rule over the whole earth. Praise the Lord!

As the Lord’s spiritual people, we have a different destiny than the Jewish people, who are the Lord’s earthly people; we are destined to rule and reign with Him for one thousand years if we are produced as His overcomers. Amen!

Our desire today is not only to know a little about Christ, enjoy Him a little, and meet with the saints here and there, as we have time to do so; we are here to be the overcomers.

The more we read the Bible, open to the Lord, and enjoy Him, the more there’s an aspiration in us to hasten the Lord’s return.

We want not only to know, enjoy, and experience Christ day by day, but also to be produced to be those who hasten His return and come back with Him to end this age, bring in the age of the kingdom, and finalize God’s economy to consummate the New Jerusalem!

He has fought the battle, He subdued the enemy, and He spoke what is in God’s heart; now He is empowered on the throne, not with a human rod but with authority divine to reign for us and God.

This is the Lord as the real David ruling on the throne. We are His companions, His disciples, and His overcoming ones; we want Him to return sooner, and so we cooperate with Him and pray one with Him for His return.

The earthly section of the millennial kingdom will be the restored kingdom of Israel—the kingdom of David (Acts 1:6; Mark 11:10). In the Old Testament the Lord promised the Jewish people that the Messiah, the anointed One, would come to inherit the throne of David and restore the Jewish nation, that is, the nation of Israel... When the Lord Jesus came the first time, the Jews were expecting the Messiah to restore His kingdom (Luke 2:25; 3:15; 7:19; John 1:41; 7:27, 41). However, it will not be until the Lord's second coming that He will restore the Messianic kingdom (Matt. 23:39). The kingdom that the Messiah will restore—the kingdom of Messiah or the kingdom of Israel to be restored in the future—will be the earthly part of the millennium, the tabernacle of David which the Lord will rebuild (Acts 15:16). The Lord will sit on the throne of David and reign over the house of Jacob, that is, the Jewish people (Luke 1:32-33), and He will rule over the nations of the earth during the millennium (Psa. 2:8; 72:8; Dan. 7:14; 2:35). Truth Lessons, Level 4, Vol. 2, Chapter 19, by Witness LeeHe is of kings the King; we are here in adoration, worshipping Him, enjoying Him, and being one with Him. His kingdom is forever, His throne is established, and He reigns with love and justice in glory. Hallelujah!

Though the darkness still prevails around us, we render Him our loyal hails and stand one with Him, praising Him and loving Him and serving Him as our dear Savior-King!

Amen, when the appointed time comes, He will come with glory, and the earth with all its nations will become His kingdom.

Until then, we want to enthrone Him as our King, our Lord, and our Head, and we want to give Him the preeminence so that He would be everything to us and in us.

When Christ will return, He will come with His overcomers, and He as the real David will restore the fallen tabernacle of David, and as the Son of God, He will reign with His overcomers in the heavenly section of the millennium.

In majesty and splendour, He will be served as King, and all the peoples and nations will sing their praises to Him.

Amen, we want to be such ones today – we want to be the overcoming ones who enthrone Him, allow His kingdom to come in us, and let Him be Lord and king in our being.

Throughout the day we can pray and open to Him, offering Him short prayers of opening to Him and enthroning Him in our being. We may tell Him,

Lord Jesus, we enthrone You in our being. You are God’s anointed – You are the King of kings and the Lord of lords! We praise You, Lord, and we give You the preeminence in our being. Hallelujah, Your kingdom is forever, and Your throne is established. Rule and reign in us with love and justice, and bring in Your kingdom in our being and all the things related to us. We worship You, Lord, we love You, and we serve You as our Savior-King. Our desire is for You to return with the kingdom. Make us Your co-kings, those who will rule and reign with You in Your kingdom for one thousand years. Yes, Lord, may Your kingdom come and Your will be done!
