Looking Away unto Jesus to be Infused with Himself as our Faith and Run the Race

When we look away unto Jesus, the Author of our faith, we are infused with Him as our faith and we can run the race with endurance. Amen, look away unto Jesus! As believers in Christ, our faith doesn’t originate from ourselves but it is our appreciation of Christ as a reaction to His attraction; our faith as believers is Christ entering into us to be our faith as we are looking away unto Jesus!

This is a revolutionizing concept, since many believers may pray like Peter, Lord, help and strengthen my faith! – but “our faith” is actually the Lord Himself being infused into us to become our very believing ability.

Throughout the centuries since the Lord Jesus was ascended, many were captured by the Lord’s beauty and charm; they heard the gospel and believed into the One whom they cannot see but appreciate and receive in spirit.

The wonderful Jesus, who is at this moment in time enthroned in the heavens and crowned with glory and honor, is the greatest attraction in the universe. When we hear Him, when we hear the gospel, when we hear His words spoken through His believers, we are infused with faith, and we are drawn to Him as to an immense magnet.

The Lord Jesus is the most magnetizing and wonderful Person in the universe, drawing people of all colors, cultures, backgrounds, sizes, and ethnicities to Himself. The way He does it is not by supernaturally and miraculously appearing to people and thus convicting and convincing them to follow Him.

The Lord Jesus simply presents Himself to us in His word in the Bible and in the word spoken by His believers, and we are attracted by His charming beauty, His loveliness and pleasantness; the result is that we look away from anything else to Him.

This is how we all got “hooked” by Christ through the gospel, this is how we stay on the way that leads to life, and this is how we run the race with endurance – by looking away unto Jesus!

When we look at Jesus, the most charming One, He infuses Himself into us to become our faith, our very ability to believe; this strengthens us to look away from many distracting things on the earth, and run the race with endurance.

He doesn’t come to “smash our idols” or “force us to follow Him”; He simply comes to us through His word, and we are captured by Him; we follow Him not because we are mentally convinced by His doctrines but because we are attracted to Him and captivated by His beauty. Don’t you just love this One?

Our Faith doesn’t Originate from us; our Believing ability is Christ Himself infused into us

Rom. 3:21-22 But now, apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been manifested, witness being borne to it by the Law and the Prophets; Even the righteousness of God through the faith of Jesus Christ to all those who believe, for there is no distinction.Abraham, the “father of faith”, had no faith in himself until the God of glory appeared to him and transfused him with Himself as his believing ability; from then on, Abraham went where God wanted him to go, and God’s appearing led his moves and life.

As believers in Christ, we are sons of Abraham by faith; our faith as believers is not our own faith – we don’t muster up or come up with our faith, but it is Christ entering into us to be our faith. Christ is the Author of our faith; He is the source and Originator of faith.

Faith has an object and issues from this object; the object of faith is Jesus. When we see Jesus, know Him, appreciate Him, and treasure Him, He causes faith to be generated in us, enabling us to believe in Him. Christ infuses us with Himself as our believing ability to be come the faith in us by which we believe in Him.

When Jesus came, He said that the only thing God wants is that man believes in Jesus, the Son of God, who was sent by God; if man doesn’t believe in Jesus, he commits the unique sin before God (John 16:9), but if man believes in Him, he becomes righteous before God and he is organically joined to Christ.

When we believe into Jesus Christ, faith brings Christ – who is God incarnate – into us, and we become righteous before God, we have Christ dwelling in us, and we are organically joined to Him.

We are not justified by God out of works of law but through faith in Jesus Christ (Gal. 2:16); faith in Jesus Christ denotes an organic union with Him through believing.

The only One who is justified and righteous before God is Christ; when we see Christ, appreciate Him, and we infused with His preciousness through the gospel and His word, we are joined to Him in an organic way. This is so amazing and yet so real!

In God’s New Testament economy, God desires that man believe in Jesus, who is God incarnate. If man does not believe in Him, he commits the unique sin before God (John 16:9). However, if man believes in Him, he is righteous to the uttermost before God, and God reckons this faith as his righteousness. At the same time, this faith brings its object, that is, this One who is God incarnate, into those who believe in Him. He is God’s righteousness, and God has given Him as righteousness to those who are indwelt by Him (Jer. 23:6). All this is out of, and depends on, the faith that is in Him and of Him (Heb. 12:2). Rom. 3:22, footnote 1, RcV BibleMany times we have to admit that we feel like not believing into God, but when we exercise our spirit, turn our heart to the Lord, and are under the speaking or reading of His word, something rises up in us, and we spontaneously believe.

There’s not a believing bone or cell in our body, for faith comes not from us but from Christ. In our natural man we have no believing ability, but when we contact the Lord, He attracts us, and there’s a reaction in our being: we simply believe!

The faith by which we are saved is the precious faith that we have received from the Lord (2 Pet. 1:1) by looking to Jesus; by beholding Him, we appreciate Him, and there’s a reaction to His attraction – He infuses Himself into us to become our believing element, our believing ability.

Our faith, our believing ability, is not of ourselves but of Him who imparts Himself as the believing element into us that He may believe for us.

This is how we can live by the faith of the Son of God who loved us and died for us (Gal. 2:20) – it is by spending time with Him in His word to be infused with Him and have Him transfused into us to become our believing ability.

Lord Jesus, we come to You to be infused with You as our believing ability. We admit that we have no faith in ourselves. We open to You, Lord, that You may shine on us, appear to us, speak to us, and transfuse Yourself into us. We want to be those who hear You, know You, appreciate You, and treasure You, so that You may become in us our believing ability. Strengthen our organic union with You, Lord, by keeping us under Your infusing and transfusing of Yourself into our being to be our faith, our believing ability.

Looking Away unto Jesus to be Infused with Him as our Faith and Run the Race

2 Pet. 1:1 Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have been allotted faith equally precious as ours in the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ. We all have met people who told us things such as, I can’t have faith…I can’t believe that you have faith in God. How can you have faith in God when all these bad things happen? How can you believe into God when you can’t see Him?

And when we look at ourselves many times during the day, we all have to admit that we may not have much faith…the truth is that, according to the Bible and according to our experience, we are NOT the source or origin of faith.

The Author of faith is Christ; the source of faith is Christ. He “invented faith” – faith is not something we can pray and fast to get, neither is something that we can come up with ourselves; faith comes from Christ. Jesus is the Author of faith; He is also the Leader, the Pioneer, and the Forerunner of faith.

He cut the way of faith, and, as the Forerunner, He took the lead to pioneer it and finish it; now He is in glory, having finished His course, and we as His believers follow in His footsteps in faith.

The way we run the race is by looking away unto Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of faith; as we look away unto Him, He transfuses Himself into us, infusing us with the faith that He has originated and perfected. What we need to do is look away unto Him!

In ourselves we are Mr. Unbelief, but when we look away unto Jesus, we become part of the household of faith – we become Mr. Faith!

When we open to the Lord in His word and realize how marvelous His heavenly ministry is, how He shepherds us, intercedes for us, ministers to us, and propagates Himself, there’s an appreciation rising up in us – we believe into Him, and we run the race by faith.

The faith by which we are saved and in which we run the race is the precious faith that we have received from the Lord; it is a God-allotted faith to all the believers (2 Pet. 1:1; Col. 1:12). When we look away unto Jesus, He as the life-giving Spirit transfuses us with Himself to become the believing element in us.

As the Author and the source of faith, Jesus is also the Leader, the Pioneer, and the Forerunner of faith. He cut the way of faith and, as the Forerunner, took the lead to pioneer it. Hence, He can carry us in His footsteps through the pathway of faith. As we look to Him as the Originator of faith in His life and in His path on earth, and as the Perfecter of faith in His glory and on His throne in heaven, He transfuses and even infuses us with the faith that He originated and perfected. Heb. 12:2, footnote 3, RcV BibleWe simply need to let Him infuse us with Himself by coming to the meetings of the church, being in the homes of the saints, going to conferences, coming to the Lord in His word every morning personally, and contact the Lord throughout the day.

We need to let Christ infuse us with Himself so that we may have Him as our believing element; He in us believes for us, and our life is a life by faith – the faith of the Son of God (Gal. 2:20).

On the one hand Christ is in His heavenly ministry as the Great High Priest ministering to God and interceding for us, and on the other, He is the life-giving Spirit in our spirit, even joined to our spirit as one spirit (1 Cor. 6:17) so that we may run the race with endurance in faith.

We experience the indwelling Christ by turning to our spirit and contacting Him.

We enjoy the heavenly Christ when we look away from all things on earth unto Him, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, the One who is on the right hand of the throne of God.

Lord Jesus, we look away from anything and anyone on earth unto You, the Author and Perfecter of our faith! Amen, Lord, we look away unto You to be infused with You as our faith! We want to run the race with endurance in faith and by the faith which You are in us. We have no faith in ourselves, but we come to You, Lord, and we allow You to transfuse Yourself into us to become our believing ability, our faith. We are crucified with Christ, and it is no longer we who live but Christ lives in us, and the life we now live is in the faith of the Son of God!

From Hebrews 1:3, this book points us continually to the Christ seated in heaven. In all his other epistles, Paul mainly presents to us the Christ who dwells in our spirit (Rom. 8:10; 2 Tim. 4:22) as the life-giving Spirit (1 Cor. 15:45) to be our life and our everything. But in Hebrews, he points us particularly to the Christ seated in heaven with so many aspects to care for us in every way. In Paul’s other epistles, the indwelling Christ is versus our flesh, self, and natural man. In this book, the heavenly Christ is contrasted with the earthly religion and all earthly things. To experience the indwelling Christ we need to turn to our spirit and contact Him. To enjoy the heavenly Christ we need to look away from all things on earth unto Him who is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. (Life-study of Hebrews, p. 565, by Witness Lee)
