What is life? John 14:6a says, Jesus said to him, I am the way and the reality and the life. Life is the source that causes us to realise Christ. This realisation causes us to be in reality which puts us on the way!
What does this life do for us? John 4:14 says, But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall by no means thirst forever; but the water that I will give him will become in him a fountain of water gushing up into eternal life.
Is there ever a shortness of supply to how much life we can have? John 10:10b says I have come that they may have life and may have it (life) abundantly.
Abundantly – implying that there is no limit. The only limit to our receiving this life is our own capacity. We can pray for a larger capacity. If our capacity is “pea-size”, that is all we will ever be able to receive. Therefore, we must be open to whatever capacity we have. You can never have too much of this life! Lord, I want a capacity that spans further than the universe!
John 5:21 For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom He wills.
After drinking a sports drink, in order to get the full benefit of it, one needs to exercise. However, if one hopes to get the full benefit, yet decides to sit down for the entire day, he cannot receive the full benefit. Similarly, when we take the Lord in the morning, there is a need to exercise and live by Him throughout the day. The full benefit of our morning eating of Christ can only come into play if we make it happen.
There is only one sin that can hinder men from being saved (receiving this divine life) – pride. Keep in mind that our situation is already condemned: we are in the same situation as the people on the Titanic!
The boat is going to crash at any moment so everyone jumps into the water. They’re staying afloat and swimming but the situation is condemned already (this refers to our world situation). The people may think they’re fine by just swimming in the water. However, one can only swim for so long. If a Saviour comes along and throws out life jackets, the people can be saved. But if the sinking /condemned people reject the Saviour’s help, they cannot blame the Saviour.
It’s merely their own pride. It is the same today – the world is a letdown and is sinking, so if the Lord is trying to help us/save us we should accept it. Our pride shouldn’t cause us to reject Him.
Furthermore, if we don’t accept His help and start dying (spiritually and possibly even physically) then we cannot blame anyone but ourselves. Thus, the faster we turn to Him, accept His help, the quicker we can be saved and the more alive we can be.
This saving is also experiential in our daily life. We need daily saving from the world. As time passes on, we get busier. It seems as if time is whizzing by and there are so many more things to distract me now than it was 10 years ago. Sometimes, I may even forget about the Lord for days… but praise the Lord for His faithfulness!
He is faithful to remove our idols and bring our eyes back to His face! We can return back to Him at any time and the sooner the better – we want to be ready for His coming! [sharing by sister Faith C. from her top enjoyment in the recent Spring 2011 College-Age Conference in Wales]
