Amazing: the Seed of David becomes the Son of God! Let’s enjoy this Wonderful Christ!

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the full knowledge of Him. Eph. 1:17

Christ as the Seed of David became the firstborn Son of God – a human seed became a divine Son! This is amazing! Hallelujah!

This week in our crystallization study of the books of 1 and 2 Samuel we come to the topic of, The Seed of David Becoming the Son of God, which is inspired from 2 Sam. 7:11-14 and developed throughout the Bible.

God made a covenant with David, the Davidic covenant; He committed Himself to not only make sure someone from the house of David will remain on the throne but that David’s seed would become the Son of God and will build up the house of God.

David had the heart that God would have a dwelling place on earth, and he intended to do everything possible to build it.

But then God manifested Himself to Nathan the prophet and had him speak to David a prophecy through typology; in other words, though the prophecy literally referred to Solomon, it actually spoke of Christ as the real Solomon who builds the real house of God.

Basically, God told David that it will not he who will build a house for God but that God would build him a house, and David’s seed will be called the Son of God, and He will build God’s house.

Our focus is to see how is it that the seed of David becomes the Son of God.

In seeing this, we need to realize something very important, something that will affect our Christian life and experience: we need to have both the prayer in Eph. 1 and the one in Eph. 3.

If for some reason, we either don’t know or don’t apply the sequence of first having the revelation and then the experience, we will be depriving ourselves of experiencing the all-inclusive Christ in a real way.

In Eph. 1:17 Paul prayed for the veil to be lifted and the believers would see a revelation of Christ and the divine things.

Then, in Eph. 3:14-17 he prayed for experience, that the believers would experience God the Father strengthening them with power through His Spirit into the inner man so that Christ may make His home in their heart.

If we do not have an interest in learning and knowing the divine revelation concerning Christ, it will be very difficult for us to enter into the proper experience of Christ.

First, there’s the knowledge and then the experience, and then enjoyment follows. In Phil. 4:13 Paul said, Until we all arrive at the oneness of the faith and of the full knowledge of the Son of God.

To have the full knowledge of the Son of God is to have a realization of the revelation concerning the Son of God for our experience; this leads us to experience Him.

None of us can say that we have arrived at the full knowledge of the Son of God; only the Son of God Himself knows how far along we are in our learning, and even this learning is something corporate.

But the more we arrive at the full knowledge of the Son of God, the more our experience is deepened and our oneness is perfected.

May we have any veils removed so that we may see who Christ the Son is, how can we enjoy and experience Him, and then enter into the enjoyment and experience of who and what He is to us for the church.

May we have the excellency of the knowledge of Jesus Christ our Lord so that we may focus on Him and not on us, grow in Him, and allow Him to work Himself into us to produce us as His overcomers, the building members of His Body.

The Seed of David becomes the Son of God – a Human Seed becomes a Divine Son!

When your days are fulfilled and you sleep with your fathers, I will raise up your seed after you, which will come forth from your body, and I will establish his kingdom...I will be his Father, and he will be My son... 2 Sam. 7:12, 14In 2 Sam. 7:12 the Lord promised David that, when his days are fulfilled and he will sleep with his fathers, God will raise up his seed after him, and He will establish his kingdom.

Then, in v. 14 God declares, I will be his Father, and he will be My son.

The seed of David, literally speaking, refers to Solomon, the son of David according to the flesh; it was Solomon who built the temple of God as His dwelling place in the Old Testament (1 Kings 5:5; 8:15-20; 1 Chron. 22:9-10; 28:6).

However, according to Heb. 1:5 (which quotes v. 14 of 2 Sam. 7), David’s seed is actually Christ as the firstborn Son of God (Heb. 1:5-6), who has both divinity and humanity and is typified here by Solomon.

This is truly mysterious, for somehow the seed of David becomes the Son of God, that is, a human seed becomes a divine Son.

This corresponds to what Paul wrote in Rom. 1:3-4 concerning Christ as the seed of David being designated the Son of God in His humanity in resurrection according to the Spirit of holiness. Wow!

God promised David that his son will build the house of God and that this son will be called, the Son of God.

This is one of the greatest mysteries in the Bible. Many think that God is God up there in the heavens and has no relationship or union with man on earth; however, what the Bible tells us is that He desires to have a house, and it is His Son – who is a human seed – who will build His house.

This prophecy concerning David’s seed becoming the Son of God is revealed through typology; literally, the seed refers to Solomon, but Solomon is a type of Christ. Christ is the real Solomon; He spoke the words of God, He is the wisest person, and He builds the church as the house of God (Matt. 16:18).

Christ is the One who reigns in God’s kingdom and the One who builds the temple of God.

The word concerning “your seed” in 2 Sam. 7:12 and “My son” in v. 14 implies that the seed of David would become the Son of God, i.e., that a human seed would become a divine Son. This word corresponds with Paul’s word in Rom. 1:3-4 concerning Christ as the seed of David being designated the Son of God in His humanity in resurrection... It also relates to the Lord’s question in Matt. 22:41-45 concerning how the Christ could be both the son of David and the Son of God as David’s Lord — a wonderful person, a God-man with two natures, divinity and humanity. These verses clearly unveil that a seed of man, i.e., a son of man, can become the Son of God. God Himself, the divine One, became a human seed, the seed of a man, David. This seed was Jesus, the God-man, Jehovah the Savior (Matt. 1:18-21; 2 Tim. 2:8), who was the Son of God by virtue of His divinity alone (Luke 1:35). Through His resurrection He as the human seed became the Son of God in His humanity as well. 2 Sam. 7:14, footnote 1 part 1, Recovery Version BibleWe need to realize that our growth in the divine life and our real experience of Christ depends very much on knowing and realizing the difference between Christ as the only begotten Son of God in the Godhead and the firstborn Son of God in God’s economy.

On one hand, He is the only begotten Son of God from eternity to eternity, the second in the Godhead; on the other hand, He became the firstborn Son of God in God’s economy in His humanity, which He picked up through His incarnation.

If we dismiss or neglect such a high knowledge of Christ, if we want to focus only on our experience of Christ and neglect the vision of Christ, we will deprive ourselves of the riches of Christ and miss the mark.

The Lord’s word in 2 Sam. 7:12 and 14 clearly indicate that the seed of David becomes the Son of God, that is, that a human seed becomes a divine Son.

And this word concerning the seed of David becoming the Son of God is continued and developed strongly in the New Testament (Matt. 22:41-45; Rev. 22:16).

May we bring this before the Lord and ask Him to shine on us, remove the veils from our eyes, and reveal to us what He is and who He is.

May we be enlightened by the Lord to see Christ as the only begotten Son of God becoming the firstborn Son of God, that is, the human seed becoming a divine Son, the seed of David becoming the Son of God!

Lord Jesus, we open to Your shining and Your enlightening. Cause us to really see that Christ is not only the only begotten Son of God but also the firstborn Son of God. May we have a vision of the seed of David becoming the Son of God, a human seed becoming a divine Son! Hallelujah, God became a man to be incarnated and live among us, and He became the Son of God in His humanity through His death and resurrection! Praise the Lord for such a high and glorious revelation of Christ! Amen, Lord, fill us with an appreciation and awe of the fact that Christ is the seed of David who became the Son of God in His humanity! Cause us to realize that, even as Christ as a man became the firstborn Son of God, so we as human beings are sons of God with the divine life and nature!

Christ is the Son of David and the Lord of David – Enjoy this Wonderful One!

Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus questioned them, Saying, What do you think concerning the Christ? Whose son is He? They said to Him, David's. He said to them, How then does David in spirit call Him Lord, saying, "The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand until I put Your enemies underneath Your feet"? If then David calls Him Lord, how is He his son? Matt. 22:41-45In Matt. 22:41-45, after the Pharisees questioned the Lord concerning many things and were silenced by His answers and responses, Christ Himself had a question for them, “What do you think concerning the Christ? Whose Son is He?”

The Lord Jesus answered their questions according to God and in wisdom, so they were all subdued; then, when He asked them a question, even the question of questions, they didn’t know how to answer it.

The Pharisees said that Christ was David’s son, and the Lord asked them how then David calls Him, Lord, when Christ was his son (vv. 43-45).

It is correct that Christ is the son of David, even the seed of David; however, David calls Him, Lord.

On one hand, Christ is the root and offspring of David, the son of David, the seed of David; on the other hand, He is the Son of God, the divine Son.

We can know Christ in such a way only in our spirit through God’s revelation (Eph. 3:5). It is only when we exercise our spirit that we can truly know Christ as the Son of David and the Son of God at the same time.

We have to read the Word of God with a clear mind, with a heart of love that pursues the Lord, and with an exercised spirit.

Merely having the doctrine and understanding the information concerning Christ as the Son of David and the Lord of David, that is, the seed of David becoming the Son of God, is not enough.

We need to receive God’s revelation through the exercise of our spirit. This is why Paul prayed that the Father would give us a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the full knowledge of Him (Eph. 1:17).

Christ is God, for in His divinity He is the Lord of David (Matt. 22:43); Christ is also a man, for in His humanity He is the son of David (vv. 42, 45).

David in spirit called Christ, Lord; we in spirit can see the revelation of Christ as the seed of David and the Son of God. We need to see how wonderful Christ is; He is both God and man, both the Son of God and the Son of David.

How wonderful Christ is! He is both God and man, both the Son of God and the Son of David. Furthermore, He is both in the heavens and in us. He is inside and outside; He is on the top and on the bottom; He is the greatest and the smallest. Oh, Christ is everything! We need to know Him to such a degree. Then we shall say, “Lord Jesus, I cannot exhaust the knowledge of You. Lord, You are the only worthy One. If there is a God, this God must be You. If there is a genuine human being, this person must be You. Lord, You are the Savior, the Redeemer, the life, and the light.” We today must come to know how inexhaustible the Lord Jesus is as the Son of David and the Son of God. Both the experience of Him and the knowledge of Him are inexhaustible. Because Christ is the all-inclusive One, the enjoyment of Him is inexhaustible. Life-Study of Matthew, Chapter 59, by Witness LeeChrist is both the greatest and the smallest; He is everything. We need to know Christ according to the divine revelation in the Word of God.

And the more we know Him, the more we have a revelation concerning His wonderful person, and the more we realize that we can’t understand Him but we can enjoy Him!

Jesus Christ is both the Son of God and He is called the Father (Isa. 9:6); we may not fully understand this, but we can enjoy Him as such a One.

Jesus Christ is both the Son of God and the Son of Man, for He has both the divine nature and the human nature in one Person; we may not fully comprehend this, but we can enjoy Him.

He is one Person with two natures and two lives; this is beyond our ability to understand in a thorough way, but we believe what the Bible says and we praise Him for being so wonderful.

We may have a revelation of Christ as the Seed of David becoming the Son of God, a human seed becoming a divine Son, and we may not fully comprehend this.

But praise the Lord, we can just worship Him, take Him in, enjoy Him, and experience Him as the wonderful One! What a wonderful Christ we have! Hallelujah!

Lord Jesus, we cannot exhaust the knowledge of You. Unveil us to see who You are. Reveal Yourself to us in Your divinity and in Your humanity. Cause us to realize that You are both the seed of David and the Lord of David. Oh Lord, You are the only worthy One. If there is a God, this God must be You. If there is a genuine human being, this person must be You. Amen, Lord, You are the Savior, the Redeemer, the life, and the light. You are the most wonderful Person in the universe! Though we may not fully comprehend who You are, we just love You! Though we may not fully understand You, we simply believe what the Bible says and we praise You for being so wonderful! Amen, Lord, we worship You! We take You in by faith. We enjoy You and we experience You as such a wonderful One!
