A Revelation of Jesus Christ as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah and the Redeeming Lamb

The revelation of Jesus Christ which God gave to Him to show to His slaves the things that must quickly take place... Rev. 1:1

What we see in the book of Revelation is the Lord Jesus Christ as the Lion of the tribe of Judah, who is qualified to open the scroll of God’s eternal economy; as the redeeming Lamb, He took away the sin of fallen man, and as the Lion of the tribe of Judah, He overcame and defeated the enemy of God.

Praise the Lord Jesus, the Lion of the tribe of Judah who is also the redeeming Lamb! Amen, Lord, we praise You today for what You are and for what You have done! May we see a revelation of Christ as the Lion of the tribe of Judah. Unveil us, Lord, to see who You are in the book of Revelation. May we see You, appreciate You, know You, experience You, enjoy You, and express You in what You are today! Amen, Lord Jesus, we love You and we praise You! Amen!

This week in our prayerful consideration of the book of Revelation to see the wonderful Christ we can experience, enjoy, and express, we come to Revelation chapter 5 where we see the Lion-Lamb.

We have seen Christ as the faithful Witness of God for the testimony of Jesus, Christ who has the keys of death and of Hades, and Christ as the Son of Man walking in the midst of the local churches.

Now we come to Christ as the Lion-Lamb. The book of Revelation is a book of signs, and this book is the revelation of Jesus Christ (Rev. 1:1-2, 5).

For us to see the revelation of Jesus Christ, we need to be in spirit. Unless we are in spirit, contacting the Lord and being one with Him as we read the book of Revelation, what we see in this book is mainly outward events, beasts, locusts, judgments, and many outward things.

Revelation is the conclusion, completion, and consummation of the entire divine revelation – the whole Bible.

Most of the things covered in this book are absolutely not new, but they are in the preceding books, and now they are perfected.

What this book shows us, however, is the unique and ultimate revelation of Christ, the particular consummate testimony of Jesus, and the eternal and universal economy of God. Praise the Lord!

As the final book in the Bible, the book of Revelation shows us a revelation of Jesus Christ. There are many things that this book speaks about, but the main topic is the revelation of Jesus Christ.

This wonderful Christ is everything to God and should also be everything to us.

He is the High Priest in the midst of the churches, caring for them in love. He is the Lion-Lamb in the midst of God’s throne and of the four living creatures and in the midst of the twenty-four elders of the universe opening the seven seals of God’s universal administration.

Christ is Another strong Angel coming down out of heaven to take possession of the earth. He is revealed again and again, and we enjoy Him, experience Him, and also express Him! Praise the Lord!

See a Revelation of Jesus Christ as the Lion of the tribe of Judah who has Overcome

And one of the elders said to me, Do not weep; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so that He may open the scroll and its seven seals. Rev. 5:5

May the Lord truly unveil us to see that the book of Revelation is a picture of Jesus Christ, and that the twenty-two chapters of this book are a single portrait portraying and depicting Jesus (Rev. 1:1-2, 5).

In particular, in chapter 5 we see Christ as the Lion of the tribe of Judah (v. 5). Wow, Christ is not only the Lamb of God as seen in the Gospels but even more, the Lion of the tribe of Judah!

The book of Revelation is a painting of who this Christ is as the Lion of the tribe of Judah; there are many other things and events, but Christ is the center.

Judah, your brothers will praise you; / Your hand will be on the neck of your enemies; / Your father's sons will bow down before you. Judah is a young lion; / From the prey, my son, you have gone up. / He couches, he stretches out like a lion, / And like a lioness; who will rouse him up? Gen. 49:8-9In chapter 5 of Revelation John saw a door opened in heaven, and a voice told him to come up there to see the things that must take place. Immediately, he was in spirit, and behold, there was a throne set in heaven.

The way for us to see what’s going on in the spiritual realm and for us to know Christ as the Lion of the tribe of Judah is to be in spirit. When we are in spirit, we see the throne, and there’s one on the throne.

There are twenty-four thrones with angelic elders there, and there are four living creatures around the throne. And the One on the throne has a scroll in his hand, written within and on the back, and sealed up with seven seals.

And a strong angel proclaimed with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the scroll and to break its seals? John was waiting to see who is worthy, and he realised that there was no one in heaven or on earth, nor under the earth, who was able to open the scroll.

So he started to weep, and he wept much, because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it.

But then one of the elders told him not to weep, for there’s the Lion of the tribe of Judah who is worthy to open the scroll! Hallelujah for the Lion of the tribe of Judah!

The lion is a symbol of Christ, portraying Him as a strong fighter against the enemy, as revealed in Genesis 49:8-9.

In Genesis, we see that Judah is like a young lion from the prey; he crouched, he stretched out like a lion. Christ is the fulfilment of this.

Christ is the Lion of the tribe of Judah. He has won the victory. He has defeated the enemy. He has overcome. Christ’s overcoming qualifies Him to open the scroll and its seven seals (Rev. 5:5-10).

May we see this Christ today. May we realise that, even though in the book of Revelation there are many other signs, events, things, and matters happening, the focus is Christ as the Lion of the tribe of Judah.

This entire book presents to us one figure, Jesus Christ, for this book is the revelation and unveiling of Jesus Christ. The main figure in the book of Revelation is Christ as the Lion of the tribe of Judah.

Therefore, we need to turn our eyes away from the frogs, the beasts, the locusts, the dragon, and the serpent – all of which are present in Revelation.

May we turn our eyes on Christ as the Lion of the tribe of Judah. All the things, items, persons, and events mentioned in Revelation are the background and environment of the main picture, which is Christ as Lion of the tribe of Judah.

The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29 And I saw in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures and in the midst of the elders a Lamb standing as having just been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. Rev. 5:6To us, this One is the redeeming Lamb, but to the enemy, He is the overcoming Lion! Amen!

Even more, He is fully expressed in the golden lampstands (ch. 1), the great multitude of the redeemed (ch. 7), the bright woman with her manchild (ch. 12), the harvest with its firstfruits (ch. 14), the overcomers on the sea of glass (ch. 15), the bride ready for marriage (ch. 19), the armies (ch. 19), and the New Jerusalem (chs. 21-22).

Praise the Lord, Christ is the Lion of the tribe of Judah today!

He has defeated the enemy and He fulfilled the purpose of God, redeeming man back to God and destroying the enemy of God.

We may be discouraged when we see the world situation today, or we may feel sad when we realise that there’s no one on earth, in heaven, or under the earth that is worthy to open the scroll of God’s eternal economy and carry it out.

But, like the apostle John, we need to see that Christ is the Lion of the tribe of Judah who is worthy to open the scroll, for He has overcome the enemy, and He is carrying out God’s eternal economy and administrating the whole universe for God! Praise the Lord!

Lord Jesus, unveil us to see that You are the Lion of the tribe of Judah who has overcome! Praise the Lord, Christ came through incarnation and has overcome the enemy in every possible way. Hallelujah, Christ destroyed the devil on the cross and He undid the works of the devil in His human living. Amen, Lord, we open to You. We exercise our spirit and we want to be in spirit to see the vision of Christ as the Lion of the tribe of Judah. You are worthy, Lord, to open the scroll of God’s eternal economy with all its seals, for You are the Lion of the tribe of Judah! You are both the redeeming Lamb and the overcoming Lion! We praise You! We trust in You! We turn our eyes unto You! We do not look at the locusts, the dragon, the beasts, or the serpent, even though all these things seem to be so real. We want to focus on You and enjoy You, for You are the Lion of the tribe of Judah who has overcome! Hallelujah, Jesus Christ is Lord! He is worthy to carry out God’s economy and administrate the universe for God! Praise the Lord!

Christ is the Redeeming Lamb who Took away the Sin of Fallen Man and the Lion of the tribe of Judah who Overcame the Enemy of God

Since therefore the children have shared in blood and flesh, He also Himself in like manner partook of the same, that through death He might destroy him who has the might of death, that is, the devil. Heb. 2:14

When we exercise our spirit and come to the Lord in spirit, we will realise that He is the Lion-Lamb in His ascension.

There is no need for us to weep anymore, thinking that there’s no one worthy to open the scroll of God’s economy and carry it out, for Christ is in His ascension as the Lion-Lamb.

As the Lion of the tribe of Judah, Christ overcame and defeated the rebellious Satan, the enemy of God. As the redeeming Lamb, Christ took away the sin of fallen man (John 1:29).

By doing so, He removed the hindrances to the fulfilment of God’s purpose. The result is that He is worthy to open the scroll concerning God’s economy.

God has these two big problems: the rebellion of Satan and the fall of man. He has a purpose, according to which He created man in His image and likeness, and His intention is for man to partake of the tree of life to become God’s corporate expression and His representation on earth.

But Satan came in and rebelled against God, and Satan caused man to fall. So God needs someone to solve these two problems. Who can solve them? It is Christ as the Lion-Lamb.

As the Lion of the tribe of Judah, Christ defeated the enemy, and as the Lamb, He redeemed us.

Now these two problems are out of the way. He partook of blood and flesh so that He might destroy him who has the might of death (Heb. 2:14). Christ took Satan out of the way, and He also redeemed us.

Now the way to the tree of life is opened again; we have a new and living way to come forward to God. Now God has a way to accomplish His purpose, for Christ is worthy!

These two problems – Satan’s rebellion and man’s fall – are the source of every problem we have, both internally in our being, in our family life, in our society, in our country, and in the world.

But Christ as the Lion-Lamb has solved these problems; He is worthy not only to meet our need but also to meet God’s need.

He can open the scroll. What is the scroll? According to the Bible, this scroll must be the new covenant, the grand title deed in the universe enacted with the blood of the Lamb for God’s redemption of the church, Israel, the world, and the universe.

This scroll actually contains all the mysteries of the universe. There are seven seals, and Christ as the Lion-Lamb is qualified to open these seals.

As He opens the seals of the scroll, He carries out God’s economy and administers the universe for the fulfilment of God’s purpose and for His economy to be carried out.

May we be full of hope today, realising that Christ as the Lion of the tribe of Judah and as the redeeming Lamb is fully qualified to not only meet our need but also meet God’s need, even to carry out God’s eternal economy!

And I saw on the right hand of Him who sits upon the throne a scroll written within and on the back, sealed up with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the scroll and to break its seals? And no one in heaven nor on the earth nor under the earth was able to open the scroll or look into it. And I wept much because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or look into it. And one of the elders said to me, Do not weep; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so that He may open the scroll and its seven seals. Rev. 5:1-5He came and removed all the hindrances to the fulfilment of God’s purpose, and He is worthy to open the scroll concerning God’s economy.

As the Lion-Lamb opens the seals of the scroll, many things take place, and eventually He gains and produces the New Jerusalem.

The book of Revelation is the opening, the unveiling of the seven seals. This book is a record of God’s thought concerning the church, Israel, the world, and the universe.

Praise the Lord for this scroll, which contains all the mysteries of this universe!

May we exercise our spirit and be in our spirit as we come to the Word of God and as we live our Christian life so that we may see Christ as the Lion of the tribe of Judah and as the redeeming Lamb.

May we cooperate with Him for the fulfilment of His eternal purpose today!

Lord Jesus, thank You for being both the Lion and the Lamb today! Wow, Christ is the Lion of the tribe of Judah to overcome and destroy the enemy, and He is the Lamb of God to take away the sin of the world. Amen, Lord, we praise You for partaking of blood and flesh, becoming like us, so that You may destroy Satan, the devil! Thank You for coming as the Lamb of God to die for us on the cross and take away the sin of the world. Oh Lord Jesus, we praise You for removing all the hindrances to the fulfilment of God’s purpose! You redeemed man and You destroyed the devil! Praise the Lord, Satan is defeated and man is redeemed! Amen, Lord, You are worthy to open the scroll concerning God’s economy. Hallelujah, there is no need for us to weep, for Christ in His ascension is the Lion-Lamb who is worthy to carry out God’s economy until God obtains the New Jerusalem, the glorious city! Amen, Lord, we open to You today. We want to be in spirit to see You and enjoy You as the Lion-Lamb today!

    – The saints throughout the centuries / Have praised the Lord that He, / The Lamb of God, has saved us, / From sin has set us free; / Yet scarcely for the Lion / Have we yet sounded praise, / Though oft for our redemption / We’ve all our voices raised. (Hymns #1092 stanza 1)
    – But then the angel said, ’Weep not! / Behold, the Lion has prevailed / To take the scroll and loose its seals; / He has the mystery now unveiled!’ / So, John looked up the Lion to see, / But, lo, he then beheld a Lamb; / Christ both o’ercame the enemy, / And wrought redemption’s work for man. (Hymns #1093 stanzas 7-8)
    – What a victory! What a triumph! / God Himself became a man, / Clothed Himself in human nature / To fulfill His mighty plan. / He through death destroyed the devil; / Risen now, the Son of Man! (Hymns #1174 stanza 1)
