David received the blueprint of the temple and prepared the materials and ground for the building, while Solomon built the temple, we need to not only know the blueprint of God’s house but also experience the Spirit of resurrection (signified by Solomon) to build the house of God. Amen!
David and Solomon typify Christ in two aspects for God’s building; David typifies Christ from His incarnation with His God-man living and suffering unto His death (Matt. 12:3-4; 22:41-46).
David typifies Christ from the manger to His death. Solomon, on the other hand, typifies Christ in resurrection, even the Spirit of resurrection, to build the house of God and speak the word of wisdom. Hallelujah!
Today we need to have the experience of Christ in His sufferings for the building up of the church and also the experience of the Spirit of resurrection for the building up of the church as the house of God.
As believers in Christ and members of the household of God, we need to advance in our experience of Christ for the church until our church life is more solid, like the temple, for the glory of God on earth.
The elementary stage of the enjoyment of Christ is characterized by worldliness and wanderings in the soul; we are saved from this by eating Christ as the Passover, being baptized into Christ to cut any ties with the world, and eating Christ as the manna and drinking Him as the living water.
We need to advance in our enjoyment of Christ and arrive at maturity; we need to eat not only the manna every morning but also labour on Christ as the good land to obtain the riches of Christ and be filled unto all the fullness of God.
God the Father has qualified us for a share of the allotted portion of Christ, a share of the allotted portion of the saints in the light (Col. 1:12).
The believers in Corinth were immature, even infants, so Paul had to write to them as those who are fleshly and even fleshy.
However, the saints in Colossae and Ephesus were more mature, and Paul wrote to them concerning the all-inclusive Christ as our portion, walking in the land, living according to the Spirit, and being built up as the church.
We need to advance in our eating of Christ from eating Him as the Passover lamb, the unleavened bread, and the manna, to eating the solid Christ, the rich produce of the good land.
We need to advance in our experience of Christ in and for the church from the tabernacle church life to the solid temple church life.
Manna and the living water could not be used to build up the tabernacle or the temple; only the stones in the good land were suitable for the construction of the temple.
May we advance in our experience of Christ in and for the church until the church is a solid temple, filled with the glory of God, for Him to gain what is in His heart for the fulfilment of His purpose.
David (the suffering Christ) received the Blueprint of the Temple and Prepared the Materials, while Solomon (Christ in Resurrection) Built the Temple
David and Solomon typify Christ in two aspects for the building of God.
First, David typifies Christ from His incarnation with His God-man living and suffering unto His death, that is, His life and living from the manger to the cross.
Solomon typifies Christ in His resurrection in glory as the life-giving Spirit in us (including His enthronement and His second coming to rule over His kingdom on earth) speaking God’s word of wisdom to build up the church as the temple of God (Matt. 12:42; 2 Chron. 1:10; 1 Cor. 1:24, 30; 12:8).
David typifies Christ in His sufferings and fighting for the kingdom of God, while Solomon typifies Christ in His resurrection building up the church and speaking the word of wisdom.
The word of wisdom is not something supernatural as in predicting the future; Christ is the wisdom of God, and He became wisdom to us from God, both righteousness and sanctification and redemption.
The word of wisdom is the word concerning Christ as the depths of God predestined by God for our portion and for our enjoyment.
Regarding David, God testified that he, the son of Jesse, is a man according to God’s heart, and he will do all that God wills (Acts 13:22).
David served his own generation by the counsel of God (v. 36), and he was a man according to God’s heart (1 Sam. 13;14).
Solomon testified concerning him saying, It was on David my father’s heart to build a house for the name of Jehovah the God of Israel (1 Kings 8:17-20; cf. Eph. 1:5, 9; 1 Cor. 12:12-27).
David suffered from his youth, yet through his suffering, he prepared the materials for the building up of the temple and gained the proper ground for the temple; also, he prepared Solomon, the builder, and all the helpers (1 Chron. 21:18-30; 2 Chron. 3:1; 1 Chron. 28:9-11, 20-21).
We know that David wanted to build a house for God, but God stopped him from doing this, saying that his son (a type of Christ) will build it.
This doesn’t mean that David did nothing about it; rather, he received the blueprint of the temple from God, he prepared the materials and the ground for the building of the temple, and he also prepared the builder of the temple and all the helpers.
Many of the things and persons that were prepared for the building of the temple were a result of David’s failure with his deep repentance which married God’s forgiveness to produce something for God’s building.
Though we do not want to fail nor do we seek to make mistakes, many times God uses our mistakes and failures to produce something for the building of God’s house, the church.
David’s preparing of the materials in abundance for the building up of the temple of God typifies Christ’s providing for the building of the church of God with His unsearchable riches (1 Chron. 18:7-11; 22:2-5, 14-16a; 28:2; 29:2-9; cf. Eph. 3:8-10).
David had great wealth and a personal treasure, and he donated it all for God’s building.
When the leaders of the tribes and the captains of thousands saw it, they also offered willingly, and the whole people were touched and offered willingly to Jehovah.
Everyone rejoiced with great joy, for they all gave for God’s building.
David’s preparation in his affliction (1 Chron. 22:1, 14), in his trials, and in the victory of his fightings typifies Christ’s rich provision for the building of the church of God in His trials and in His victory in His life of fighting against Satan with his power of darkness (Matt. 4:4, 7, 10).
The pattern of the temple given to David was the pattern of all that he had by the Spirit (1 Chron. 28:12).
David said that all of this, the pattern of the temple with all its details, was made clear to him by God by a writing from the hand of Jehovah upon him (v. 19; see 2 Cor. 3:3).
Then, Solomon built the temple according to this pattern (1 Chron. 28:11).
Furthermore, David’s arranging in order Israel’s services to God related to the temple of God (6:31-48; chs. 23—26) typifies the Spirit’s arranging in order the church services in the New Testament (1 Cor. 12:4- 27) and typifies that Christ as the Head of the Body has set up an order in His Body for all His members to keep (v. 18; 14:40). Hallelujah!
David knew his measure and did not go beyond it. He was a man according to the heart of God, he fought the wars of God, and he had the desire to build a house for God.
His portion, however, was only to prepare the materials, services, people, and ground for the temple, and he received the blueprint for the temple.
Solomon, however, typifies Christ in resurrection, even the Spirit of resurrection, and he built the temple according to the blueprint revealed to his father by God.
Praise You, Lord Jesus, for being the real David who fights the battle for God’s kingdom, suffered for the producing and building up of the church, and has the blueprint of the church, the house of God! Hallelujah, Christ is the real Solomon who speaks the word of wisdom and builds the church according to the blueprint. We give ourselves to You, dear Lord, to be one with You as the One who fights God’s warfare, brings in the kingdom of God, has the blueprint for God’s house, and suffers for the building up of the church. We want to be one with You as the One who speaks the word of wisdom and builds up the church in resurrection. Make us those who cooperate with the suffering Christ and the resurrected Christ, even the Spirit of resurrection, to build up the church as the house of God!
Live in the Spirit of Resurrection in our Spirit to Build up the Church according to God’s Revelation
When the Lord Jesus was on earth, He as the One greater than David and the real David not only suffered for the kingdom of God, fought the warfares of God, and defeated the devil through His death on the cross, but He also revealed the blueprint of the church to His disciples.
He clearly said in Matt. 16:18 that He will build His church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
David revealed the blueprint of the temple to Solomon, and Solomon built it; Christ as the real David reveals the blueprint of the church to us and He in us builds up the church.
We can say that Matt. 16 contains the revelation of the blueprint and Acts 2 reveals the execution.
For us to build the church we should not try our best to do this or that according to what we think we should do; rather, we simply need to reject ourselves and live in the Spirit of resurrection in our spirit.
The reality of Solomon, the one who builds the house of God, is the Spirit of resurrection in our spirit.
We may have the doctrine of the blueprint of the church, we may agree with it, we may love it, and we may want to do it.
The only way for us to build the church as the house of God is by living in the Spirit of resurrection in our spirit.
If we simply act according to the doctrine without living in the Spirit of resurrection, there is not much profit.
The revelation that David saw needs to be executed by Solomon; the revelation of the church that we see in spirit needs to be carried out by our living in the spirit.
The revelation of the church unveiled in the word of God can be carried out only by the resurrected Christ as the Spirit of resurrection.
On one hand, we have the blueprint in our hand, in the word of God; on the other hand, to carry out the blueprint and build up the church, we need to exercise our spirit and live in the Spirit of resurrection in our spirit.
The blueprint of the church is the Spirit of resurrection. When we live in the Spirit of resurrection in our spirit, the reality of Solomon’s building of the temple is fulfilled in us! Hallelujah!
How can we build up the church? It is Christ who builds up the church, and He is the Spirit in resurrection; this Spirit is mingled with our spirit, and whenever we turn to the spirit, live in spirit, and walk according to the spirit, we build up the church.
However, if we simply try to do things according to the pattern of the temple, if we merely try to do things in ourselves according to the blueprint of the church, we will not really build up the church but rather, we bring in division and confusion.
All the problems in the church are due to the fact that we have David’s design without Solomon’s execution, that is, we have revelation and doctrine but not much expression and living in the Spirit of resurrection.
The church can be built up only in spirit and by the Spirit; we need to live in the Spirit of resurrection and not merely hold to doctrine and do things according to doctrine.
May we allow the Lord as the Spirit of resurrection within us to break us.
The revelation in God’s word related to the church is not merely a doctrine or written instructions; it is something for us to live out by living in the Spirit of resurrection.
All the revelations in the Bible can be fulfilled only in the Spirit of resurrection; it is only when we live in the spirit that we not only do not fulfil the lusts of the flesh but all the righteous requirements of God are fulfilled in us (Rom. 8:4).
When we live in the Spirit of resurrection, we will not argue with others nor will we have contentions in serving the Lord and in the church.
May we be willing to submit to the authority of the Holy Spirit and allow Him to speak to us, operate in us, and live in us.
And when He within us bothers us concerning our desire to start an argument or do something that distracts us from the Lord, we should simply say Amen, and stop our doing, turn to the Lord, and remain in spirit.
May we have Solomon’s execution of what was revealed to David by our living in the Spirit of resurrection under the revelation of the church in God’s word.
Lord Jesus, we choose to live in the Spirit of resurrection in our spirit for the building up of the church as the house of God. Amen, Lord, we reject ourselves and we live in the Spirit of resurrection according to the divine revelation in God’s word for the church. Thank You for revealing to us the blueprint of the church as the house of God. Hallelujah, Christ unveiled us to see a vision of the church as the house of God! We come to You, Lord, and we don’t just want to hold to the doctrine of the church; we exercise our spirit and we want to live in the Spirit of resurrection! Make us willing to submit to the authority of the Holy Spirit and allow the Spirit to speak to us, limit us, and bother us concerning the things that are not pleasing to God. Hallelujah, all the ingredients of Christ’s God-man living, death, and resurrection are in the Spirit with our spirit, and we can live in the Spirit of resurrection a life for the building up of the church!

– One with Thee, Thou Son forsaken, / Judgment and the curse we’ve passed; / We to sin are dead forever, / Hell beneath our feet is cast. / One with Thee in resurrection, / Death can never us oppress; / Live we in Thy new creation, / Bearing fruits of righteousness. (Hymns #475, stanza 3)
– One with Thee in resurrection, / Risen now to live in Thee, / With that life which is Thyself, Lord, / Now in me, Lord, even me. / One with Thee, one with Thee, / One with Thee, one with Thee; / Day by day I share Thy riches, / Thou art everything to me. (Hymns #474, stanza 4 and chorus)
– Thou art all my life, Lord, / In me Thou dost live; / With Thee all God’s fulness / Thou to me dost give. / By Thy holy nature / I am sanctified, / By Thy resurrection, / Vict’ry is supplied. (Hymns #841, stanza 1)
Every one of us should learn to reject ourselves and to live in the Spirit of resurrection… We should submit to the elders because of life, not because of regulation; we should submit to them in the Spirit of resurrection, not based on doctrine. As brothers and sisters in the church, we should submit to the elders, who are the authority in the church. If we do not submit, we are unlawful. This is according to doctrine. But if we simply act according to doctrine without living in the Spirit of resurrection, there is not much profit. The revelation seen by David was executed by Solomon. This means that the revelation of the church unveiled in the Scriptures can be carried out only by the resurrected Christ as the Spirit of resurrection. Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1956, vol. 2, p. 210
David’s preparing of the materials in abundance for the building of the temple of God typifies Christ’s providing for the building of the church of God with His unsearchable riches (1 Chron. 18:7-11; 22:2-5, 14-16; 28:2; 29:2-9; cf. Eph. 3:8-10). David’s preparation in his affliction (v. 14), in his trials, and in the victory of his fightings typifies Christ’s rich provision for the building of the church of God in His trials and in His victory in His life of fighting against Satan with his power of darkness. 1 Chron. 22:3, footnote 1, Recovery Version Bible
We need to not only have the revelation of the church but also live in the Spirit of resurrection in our spirit so that we may build up the church.
May we not merely hold on to doctrine but allow the Lord as the Spirit of resurrection within us to break us and to live in us.
Amen! We need to live in the Spirit of resurrection for the building!
All the revelations in the Bible can be fulfilled only in the Spirit of resurrection.
Christ is the King in resurrection who is building the church.
Whilst He was on earth, He revealed the blueprint of the church in Matt 16; the execution is revealed in Acts 2.
May we all learn to reject ourselves and live in the Spirit of resurrection, for the blueprint of the church depends entirely upon the Spirit of resurrection.
While David as a type of the revealing Christ had the heart and pattern for the building of the temple it was through Solomon – a type of the executing Christ – who possessed the wisdom to build the temple.
Such a revelation corresponds with Matthew 16 in which the building of the church is revealed with the executing of this building by the Spirit of resurrection in Acts 2.
Today it is not sufficient to have the doctrine of the church being the temple of God, we must live in, with and by the Spirit of resurrection, the All Inclusive, life-giving Spirit!
Only then will we have the reality of the Body as God’s building!
Brother we seen that Christ as the real suffering David has given us the blueprint on how he will build the Church in Matthew 16 and now as the tree of Real Solomon victorious King
he wants to execute this plan in us to build up the Church and he can only do it by us allowing the Spirit of resurrection to break us this is the blueprint the Spirit of resurrection
we need to live by this Spirit of resurrection and allow it to deal with us in our daily life this is will allow the blueprint to be carried out and executed may we cooperate with this Spirit in us for the building up of the church
Amen brother!
Only in the resurrected life of Christ can we build up the church.
Hallelujah for the resurrected life in us!
Wow, brother David and Solomon as types of Christ complement each other – With David we see Christ’s as the fighting king from His incarnation and suffering unto death, a life of afflictions and trials from the manger to the cross, defeating Satan, gaining the land and preparing the materials and the rich provisions for God’s building.
With Solomon we see Christ as the victorious King in His resurrection and enthronement in glory as the life-giving Spirit in us speaking God’s word of wisdom and building the temple of God until His second coming to bring in the Kingdom of God on earth!!!
David and Solomon complement each other as Father and Son like Jacob and Joseph, we need to see the Vision, the pattern given to David and execute the building by living by the Spirit of resurrection seen in Solomon.
At the same time we need to be transformed as seen in Jacob and brought onto maturity, to reign in life as seen in Joseph. Amen!!
Amen Lord for resurrection life for the building of the church as the house of God! May we practice the exercise of our mingle spirit to experience resurrection life for the blinding up of the church!
What a wonderful picture shown to us through David and Solomon! David is a picture of Christ in His sufferings leading to His death on the cross while Solomon is a picture of Christ’s victory in resurrection! Praise our wonderful rich Christ!
Also with David we see the blueprint, the design of God’s building and in Solomon we see the execution, the carrying out of the work of building. These match the New Testament where in Matthew 16 we have the revelation of the church as the reality of the building given to David and in Acts 2 we have the execution of the work of building as the reality of the building work carried out by Solomon.
As New Testament believers we need to realise that the blueprint of the church is the Spirit of resurrection. Oh how we need to deny the self, reject the flesh , and be willing to under the rulership of the Spirit.
Dear brother, if we live in the Spirit of resurrection in our spirit, the reality of Solomon’s building of the temple according to David’s design (with all the ingredients of Christ’s God-man living, death, and resurrection) is fulfilled within us.
