Life is the way to fulfill God’s purpose; the Lord’s recovery is a recovery of truth and life

This morning we were enjoying the fact that both truth and life are the Lord Jesus Himself – they are two aspects of what He is.

The Lord Jesus is life (John 1:4) but life is mysterious and concealed until the Lord speaks the truth – the truth is the outward definition and explanation, and the life is the inward and intrinsic content.

In our experience it is the same – we have received the Lord as the divine life into us, but this life needs an explanation, which is the truth!

Experiencing the Lord as life according to the truth

The normal Christian experience of the divine life is always based on the truth in the Bible. The Lord is within us as our life, but the experience of life needs a definition, an explanation – this explanation is the truth.

When we receive the truth by the hearing of the Word or the reading of the Word, we receive life! The Lord Jesus as life is contained in the Lord as the truth. This is why we need to get into the truth and understand the truth, be clear about the truth – so that we may enjoy Christ as life!

The truth without and the life within go hand in hand – our experience of the Lord as life is based on the truth in the Holy Word. The more we know the truth in the Word of God, the more we can experience and enjoy Christ as life. We daily need to come to the Bible to receive the divine truths in it, so that we may enjoy the Lord as life! The Lord Jesus said I am the way and the reality and the life (John 14:6) – He is the truth and He is the life. All the truths in the Bible are the food supply for our spiritual life.

The Bible is a book of life

Many people consider the Bible as being a very good book with a lot of knowledge, and even many believers come to the Bible only for knowledge, encouragement, or good thoughts. But the entire Bible is a book of life, and what we get when we read the Bible with an open heart is the truth that conveys life.

If we read the Bible only with our mind, we will receive knowledge, but if we read the Bible with our spirit and our mind, we will receive the divine truths in the Word of God. Once we see the truth, we will spontaneously touch life!

The Lord’s recovery is a recovery of the truth and life

If we lose the truth and life in the Word of God we lose everything, and all is left is what Christianity has in general today: human organization, methods, good teachings, outward things, a social gathering, and a feel-good gospel. But we need to see that today the Lord’s recovery is a recovery of the truth and life!

This is what the Lord desires – He wants the church to know Him as truth and receive Him as life! The content of the church should be the increase and the growth of Christ in us as truth and life.

Life is the Triune God dispensed into us

What is life? A very simple definition of life is – Life is the Triune God dispensed into us and living in us.

God the Father is the source of life, God the Son is the course of the divine life, and God the Spirit is the flow of the divine life. Praise the Lord – the Triune God is dispensing Himself into us as life all the time, and He is the One living in us as the divine life!

This is God’s intention from the beginning when He placed man in front of the tree of life so that man may take God in as life and live by Him!

Life is the way to fulfill God’s purpose

There is no other way that God can fulfill His purpose – not even with our good intentions and good will, we can’t fulfill His purpose apart from God’s life! God’s desire for man to express Him in His image and to rule for Him with His dominion can be realized only by God’s life (Gen. 1:26; 2:9). This is why God didn’t give man a set of rules and regulations after He created him – God simply put man in front of the tree of life that man may receive God as his life. God’s purpose throughout the Bible is fulfilled and accomplished only by life.

When we enjoy the Lord as life, He in us fulfills God’s purpose. Sorry to say again, we cannot fulfill God’s purpose in ourselves, no matter how perfect and how diligent we may be. God wants us to take Him into us as our life – eat Him as the tree of life and drink of Him as the water of life – so that His life in us would fulfill God’s purpose. God’s purpose can be fulfilled only by life. This life, the divine life, is the second great pillar in the Lord’s recovery today.

Thank You Lord for not leaving us in darkness – You came to us as the truth, shining in the darkness and bringing life into us! Cause us to see the truth and appreciate the truth in the Word of God! O, Lord, praise You for being the truth outside of us and the life inside of us! Save us from receiving mere knowledge when we come to the Bible. We want life – more of the divine life. Grow in us, Lord, and increase our capacity to receive Your life dispensing!
