Jesus is the Son of Man and the Apostle and High Priest of our confession! (Christ in Hebrews)

Praise the Lord – now we see Jesus! He was made a little inferior to the angels because of the suffering of death – but He was crowned with glory and honor so that by the grace of God He might taste death on behalf of everything (Heb. 2:9)!

Christ is the Son of Man – He was prophesied to be the second man, the another man, in Psalms 8 – the first man fell and failed God, not accomplishing God’s purpose. But the Second Man, Christ (1 Cor. 15:47) came and fulfilled God’s purpose – He recovered man’s lost ordination! Man was ordained to be for God – to be filled with God and express God!

Adam, the first man, failed, but Christ as the Son of Man came and fulfilled God’s purpose in full! In Hebrews 2 we see such a wonderful Christ, One who was incarnated, crucified, resurrected, glorified, and exalted!

All the processes He went through are seen in Hebrews 2 – Christ as the Son of Man in His humanity passed through incarnation (Heb. 2:14), crucifixion (Heb. 2:9), resurrection (Heb. 2:11-12), glorification (Heb. 2:10), and exaltation (Heb. 2:7) to fulfill God’s purpose!

Therefore, as holy brothers – partakers of a heavenly calling – we need to look away and consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession: JESUS (Heb. 3:1)! What a Wonderful and all-inclusive person He is! As the Apostle and High Priest, Christ is superior to both Moses and Aaron.

What does it imply that Christ is both the Apostle and the High Priest of our confession? As the Apostle, Christ is typified by Moses and He is the One who was sent to us from God and with God (John 6:46; 8:16).

As the Apostle, Christ came to us from God and with God to share God with us that we might partake of His life, nature, and fulness! As the Apostle of our confession, He brought God to man and into man for man to partake of God! As the High Priest, Christ is typified by Aaron and He is the One who went to God with us to present us to God that we and all our case might be fully cared for by Him.

As the High Priest, Christ brings us to God and into God to make us one with God! Wow, what a fact! We need to see this marvelous traffic between God and us – as the Apostle, Christ came to us from God and with God, bringing God into us; as the High Priest, He went back to God from us and with us! He brought God into man and He is bringing man into God!

And all this is for God’s building – in His humanity, Christ is the material good for God’s building (His fine, perfect, delicate humanity is perfect and suitable for the building of God) and in His divinity, Christ is the Builder of God’s building (He is fully qualified as the Divine Builder to Build God’s house)!

The Lord Jesus has two natures – humanity (which is good as material for the building of God’s habitation), and divinity(which is the element of the Builder). Moses was sent from God as an Apostle to serve the house of God (Heb. 3:2-6) – Christ was sent from God to do the same thing!

Aaron went to God with the people of Israel with all their cases (Heb. 4:14-7:28) – and Christ does the same with the believers today!

But Christ, unlike Aaron and Moses, is not just part of the building helping with the building – He is both the ELEMENT for building AND the BUILDER Himself (Matt. 16:18)! He is building His church with Himself as the element being wrought into His people!

Lord, we love You as such a wonderful One! We want to look away unto Jesus – away from anything or anyone else and unto You! Thank You for the process You went through! You were made a little inferior to the angels so that You might die for us! You came to fulfill God’s purpose in humanity! You are that Man – the Second Man – who fulfills God’s purpose! Lord, You are also the High Priest and the Apostle of our confession! You brought God into man and You are bringing man into God! How we love You, Lord, as such a Wonderful One!
