Jesus Christ became a covenant to us: He is the Mediator and Executor of the new covenant!

March 30, 2011 by aGodMan 2 Comments

God’s heart’s desire is not for man to serve Him and be submissive to Him; God desires to give all He is to man so that man may enjoy Him and express Him! This is why God created man and put man in front of the tree of life – He wanted man to enjoy Him and take Him in as his life!

This is why God called Abraham and made a covenant with him, promising to him and to his seed that He will bless them. This is why God chose a people, Israel, and dwelt among them. This is why God became a man in the Lord Jesus, and then He became the life-giving Spirit in Christ’s resurrection. Also, this is why God regenerated the many believers into Christ to be the Body of Christ for His expression and reproduction. It is all for this – God’s desire to dispense all that He is, all the riches of His being, into man, so that man may enjoy Him, be filled with Him, and express God in a spontaneous way!

Even though man fell and became a sinner, offending God to the uttermost, God still wants the same thing. In His wisdom, He provided Christ as the One who not only rescued man from the enemy but also fulfilled all the requirements of God’s righteousness, holiness, and glory. Christ lived a perfect human life on earth, died an all-inclusive death on the cross, and brought man back to God!

In the Old Testament we see that God gave Christ as a covenant to His people – Isaiah 42:6 says,

I am Jehovah; I have called You in righteousness; I have held You by the hand; I have kept You and I have given You As a covenant for the people, as a light for the nations;

Jesus Christ became a covenant to us – He is a SURETY of God being the inheritance to His people! This covenant is stronger than just a promise – it is something enacted by the shedding of Christ’s blood (Matt. 26:28)! Christ enacted the new covenant(which eventually became the new testament) with His blood for the redemption of the transgressions of God’s people. He redeemed man back to God and qualified man to inherit everything of God.

Now God is our inheritance – the Spirit is a pledge of this (Eph. 1:14) and Christ is the surety of the new covenant! God’s divine attributes have become the unsearchable riches of Christ which we inherit – and the entire Triune God is a guarantee and a pledge that this is happening!

Christ is the new covenant given to us by God, He is the surety of the new covenant, He enacted the new covenant, and in His resurrection Christ became all the bequests of the new covenant and He is the Mediator, the Executor, to execute the new testament (Heb. 9:15-17).

Wow, Christ is everything in God’s economy and He is the only thing God gives to us! He is God’s Beloved, the embodiment of all that God is and has, and He is our portion covenanted to us by God! And today Christ is the Mediator of this new covenant, making sure all His believers enjoy God to the uttermost – making sure we all benefit of the new covenant! All the bequests of the new covenant (which are contained in the New Testament) are being applied and made real to us – Christ’s believers – by Christ as Executor of the new covenant.

Christ as the centrality and universality of God’s economy and He is the reality of the new testament – this rich One is the covenant given to us by God! On the one hand it is a “legal covenant” which “forces God to give us all that He is”, on the other hand Christ in our spirit is the reality of the new covenant! As soon as we turn to our spirit, we enjoy Christ as the Mediator of the new covenant – He applies to us all the riches of God, all that God is and has, and all that Christ has accomplished!

[sharing inspired by the life-study of Isaiah as quoted in the Holy Word for morning revival on, The Crystallization-Study of Isaiah(2)]

Thank You Lord for the new covenant! You are the all-inclusive One who passed through such a marvelous process to become the new covenant given to us by God! Lord, keep us enjoying You as the reality of all that God wants to be to us and give to us! Continue to apply to our being all God’s riches and all that You have accomplished! Keep us turning to our spirit to touch the reality of the new covenant! Thank You Lord for qualifying us to enjoy all that You are and all that You have accomplished!
