I never thought that this one chapter in the Bible – Genesis 49 – is full of such a rich blessing and is so meaningful to our Christian life and church life, when viewed from the perspective of God’s eternal economy.
In this chapter we see Jacob who, at the end of his life, prophesies with blessing concerning each of his twelve sons. His prophecy was fulfilled in Israel’s history with the twelve tribes and is now spiritually applied to our Christian life and church life.
In reviewing and finding the most important points in Jacob’s prophesying with blessing concerning his sons, today we come to Naphtali who is, “a hind let loose; he gives beautiful words” (Gen. 49:21).
Naphtali first typifies Christ as the real hind let loose, the hind of the dawn (Psa. 22), and then it typifies the believers who are enjoying and experiencing the resurrected Christ. Eventually, Naphtali will take over the earth through his experience of the resurrected Christ and his speaking of the beautiful words (see Deut. 33:23).
In order for us to be “of the tribe of Naphtali”, those in resurrection experiencing the resurrected Christ and speaking forth the beautiful words of the gospel so that the whole earth would belong to God, we first need to experience the spiritual application of Jacob’s prophesying with blessing concerning his other sons.
We all begin as sinners living in the lusts of the flesh (Reuben) and according to our terrible disposition, in our natural man (Simeon and Levi). Then, we receive the gospel (Judah) through some who are faithful to speak it to us (Zebulun), and we are regenerated and come into the church life (Issachar).
After some spiritual victories, however, there’s the danger of falling into apostasy (Dan); we return to God and repent, fellowship, and are being blended in the Body (Gad), and we are restored to the enjoyment of Christ as our rich provision in the church life (Asher).
Here, in the church life, as we enjoy Christ as our rich provision, we are so full with the riches of the resurrected Christ that we are one with Him to skip over the hills and mountains, leaping over any obstacle or barrier, and we speak beautiful and rich words, “the words of this life”, to impart life to others.
By experiencing the resurrected Christ in the church life and by preaching the gospel of the kingdom, we will take the whole earth for the Lord and are satisfied with favor and full of blessing. Hallelujah!
Naphtali: Experience the Resurrected Christ and Speak Beautiful Words
When Jacob spoke of Naphtali, he likened him to a “hind let loose”; a hind is a deer known for its leaping and jumping. Christ in resurrection is the leaping One (see Song of Songs 2:8-9), and He is “the hind of the dawn” (see Psa. 22, title).
Christ’s resurrection took place at early dawn (Luke 24:1), and in His resurrection He is leaping and skipping. Christ is leaping upon the mountains and skipping on the hills: He can leap over any barrier and skip over any hindrance and obstacle.
When we experience Christ as the resurrected One, the mountain-leaping and hill-skipping Christ, we will overflow with rich words, pleasant words, and beautiful words. When we experience Christ as the resurrected One, we cannot be silent: we have to speak words of joy and life concerning this One.
When Peter was released from prison by the angel he was told, “Go and speak the words of this life” (Acts 5:20).
The divine life preached, ministered, and lived by Peter that overcame the Jewish leaders’ persecution, threatening, and imprisonment. This word indicates that Peter’s life and work made the divine life so real and present in his situation that even the angel saw it and pointed it out. (Acts 5:20 footnote 2 in Holy Bible Recovery Version)
Peter made the divine life so real and present in his situation that even the angels saw it and pointed it out.
When we enjoy the rich provision of Christ (Asher) and experience the resurrected Christ (Naphtali) we will have beautiful words, rich and pleasant words, and words of joy and life coming out of us (see Matt. 28:16, 18-20; John 7:37-39a; Acts 2:32-36; 5:20).
When the resurrected Christ is filling our inner being, we must speak lest we burst. When we exercise our spirit to enjoy and experience the resurrected Christ, we are satisfied with grace (Deut. 33:23, “favor” is the Old Testament for the New Testament “grace”).
As believers in Christ and members of the Body of Christ living a normal Christian life in the proper church life today, we are satisfied with God as grace and we are filled with God as blessing.
Our portion today is to grow in life unto maturity, experience the resurrected Christ, and be victorious and matured in the divine life to overflow with beautiful words to others.
We can testify from our experience that it is so enjoyable to read the Bible, enjoy the footnotes, and get into the life-study messages on the books of the Bible; when the word of God and the ministry of the age fills our inner being, we cannot but speak beautiful words, words of joy and life, rich words filled with Christ as the Spirit!
In the Lord’s recovery, we are under God’s blessing: we are daily satisfied with God’s rich grace and we are full of God’s blessing.
As we enjoy the Lord in the morning, contact Him throughout the day, and come together with the saints to enjoy Him corporately, we overflow with pleasant and rich words concerning our Beloved Christ, enjoying the rich dispensing of the Triune God through each member of the Body of Christ (1 Cor. 15:10; 2 Cor. 13:14)!
Thank You Lord for bringing us into the church life where we can enjoy and experience the resurrected Christ until we overflow with our enjoyment in beautiful and pleasant words to the saints! Lord, we open to You again to be filled with You and to experience You as the resurrected One. Fill our inner being until we cannot but overflow with the words of this life. Make us those who nourish others with the rich Christ we have enjoyed and experienced. Constitute us with Your word and with the ministry so that our tongue may be the pen of a ready writer, ready to write our love for You and speak beautiful words one with You!
Experiencing the Resurrected Christ and Possessing the Earth by Proclaiming Christ!
God’s desire is to recover the earth from under the usurpation of Satan, and He does it through us, the church. When we enjoy the Lord, experience Him as the resurrected One, and speak the beautiful and pleasant words of the gospel one with Christ, the earth is being taken for God.
Naphtali was given to possess the sea (the Gentiles – see Matt. 13:1; Dan. 7:3; Rev. 17:15) and the south (the land of Israel); when we experience the resurrected Christ, we will possess the whole earth through our proclaiming of Christ!
All authority has been given to Christ: He is the King, the Ruler, and the Highest Authority in the universe, and this authority is now in the church composed of the believers who experience the resurrected Christ (Matt. 28:18).
The power of the Holy Spirit – the economical Spirit of power for work – has been poured out upon the Body once and for all (Acts 1:8; Rom. 15:19); now we can go forth into all the world to preach the gospel of the kingdom to all the nations.
The Lord will not recover the earth by force or by fighting; He simply gains men, dispenses Himself into them, is experienced by them in His resurrection, fills them with His divine life, and flows out of them as the rich and beautiful words of the gospel of the kingdom.
By His speaking God created; Christ Himself is the word of God, we are saved by God’s word containing His life, we are filled with God’s word, and we speak the words of this life to our family, our neighbours, our city, our country, our continent, and to the whole earth, and then the end will come.
By His speaking in and through the members of His Body, Christ will take over the earth. All the ends of the earth will remember and return to Jehovah, and all families of the nations will worship before Him (Psa. 22:27).
Finally, when Christ returns to fight the last rebellion of Satan allied with fallen humanity, He will speak the word (His sword is the word of His mouth) and we all as His armies will say a big AMEN! By His word, Christ will destroy the enemy and recover the earth.
How we need to be filled with God’s word, enjoy God’s grace, be saturated with His spiritual blessings in Christ, and overflow with the rich, pleasant, beautiful, and joyful words of this divine life we’re enjoying and experiencing daily!
Lord Jesus, we want to pay the price to be filled with the words of this life. Satisfy us with grace and fill us with Your spiritual blessings in Christ. Gain many believers who overflow with the beautiful and rich words of God’s divine life enjoyed and experienced by them in their daily life. Lord, may the gospel of the kingdom be preached throughout the inhabited earth for a testimony, and may the whole earth be gained by God to be His possession through our speaking of Your words! May we to experience You as the resurrected Christ and proclaim You as the gospel until the whole earth is gained!

# When you speak the Word, / He fills you within / And clothes you without; / Then words full of power, / Authority, impact flow out. / Channels of life are we, / Allowing God to flow! / Through us and out of us / That others life may know! (Song on Overflowing with Life)
# May our living be the preaching, / Making Christ to others known; / Not the word of doctrine-preaching, / But the seed of life be sown. / Grant us, Lord, the living outflow, / May Thy life through us be seen; / Through us as Thy living vessels / Quicken people from within. (Hymns #925)
# We must ever preach the gospel, / Learning how to prophesy / For the building of the Body, / Thus the Lord to glorify. (Song on Speaking Beautiful Words)
Naphtali will possess the west, the sea, the Gentile world, and the south, the land, the nation of Israel. This means that Naphtali will take the earth. It is the resurrected Christ experienced by us who will take the earth. At the end of Psalm 22 we see that the resurrected Christ will gain the nations. Psalm 22:27 says, “All the ends of the earth / Will remember and return to Jehovah, / And all families of the nations / Will worship before You.” All the nations will submit to Him, obey Him, and worship Him….When we truly experience Christ in resurrection, we become those who will take the earth by preaching Christ (Matt. 28:19; Acts 1:8; Rom. 15:19).
In order to take the earth, we must begin from Reuben and continue through Simeon, Levi, Judah, Zebulun, Issachar, Dan, Gad, and Asher until we come to Naphtali. When we have become Naphtali…it is easy to take the earth because we are in resurrection speaking beautiful words, and we are satisfied with favor and full of blessing. 1. When you speak the Word, He fills you within and clothes you without;
Then words full of power, authority, impact flow out
Channels of life are we – allowing God to flow!
Through us and out of us – that others life may know!
2. After you receive, are filled and enriched by such a supply –
Go! Open your mouth! Speak to all men the words of this life!
3. And having the same spirit of faith – Be strong! Be not weak!
“We also believe, therefore we also must speak!”
