Exercising our Spirit to Enjoy and Experience the Christ Revealed in Zech. 2

Exercising our Spirit to Enjoy and Experience the Christ Revealed in Zech. 2In the first part of Zechariah, we see many visions of Christ which bring in consolation to the people of God. In the second part of the book there are many aspects of Christ being revealed, which bring in encouragement to the people of God for the rebuilding of the temple.

We need to exercise our spirit to enjoy and experience Christ as the sevenfold intensified Spirit in all the aspects revealed in the book of Zechariah. When we see Christ and enjoy Christ, we experience consolation and encouragement. Without Christ there’s no consolation and no encouragement.

He is our suffering companion – He sympathizes with us, He can be touched with the feeling of our weaknesses (Heb. 4:15), and He is able to exercise compassion toward the ignorant and erring ones (Heb. 5:2). How much we need to see this Christ, enjoy this Christ, and experience this Christ by exercising our spirit!

This wonderful Christ today is the life-giving Spirit – He even is the sevenfold intensified Spirit, and we have a human spirit particularly formed by God in us to match Christ, contact Him, and receive Him. In Zechariah 2 specifically, there are a few aspects of Christ for us to experience and enjoy through the exercise of our spirit.

Christ is a Man with a Measuring Line in His Hand to Possess Us

In Zech. 2:1-2 we see that Christ is a man with a measuring line in His hand, and He measures the city of Jerusalem to see its measurements.

As the psalmist prayed in Psa. 139:23-24 we also need to open to the Lord and say, Lord, search me and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts; see if there’s any wicked way in me… and lead me in Your way!

Christ as a man comes to us to measure us, test us, judge us, examine us, so that He may repossess us for His kingdom (Ezek. 40:3; 47:1-5). Even though many times we wander away from the Lord, He as a man comes to us to cherish us, find us, measure us, embrace us again, and possess us as His people, His kingdom!

Christ is a Wall of Fire Around us and the Glory Within us

The result of Christ's measuring us is that He becomes a wall of fire around us and He is the glory within us (Zech. 2:5). God in Christ will be the protection around us (the circumference) and He will be our glory in our center - Christ is the centrality and universality in God's economy! [in the picture: Zech. 2:5]The result of Christ’s measuring us is that He becomes a wall of fire around us and He is the glory within us (Zech. 2:5). God in Christ will be the protection around us (the circumference) and He will be our glory in our center – Christ is the centrality and universality in God’s economy!

Today in the church Christ is the glory in the center, and He is also the fire burning around the circumference the church for her protection.

Just as Israel has the “Iron Dome“, a defense system that detects any missile entering their airspace/territory and destroying it, so Christ is the real Iron Dome, protecting us from Satan!

As soon as Satan tries to attack, Christ as a wall of fire is initiated as a defense mechanism and He destroys the enemy while on his way to us. Also, we have a treasure in our earthen vessels (2 Cor. 4:7) – Christ as the glory within us (Col. 1:27). Even though sometimes we may suffer and are in trials, the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon us (1 Pet. 4:14).

Christ as the Spirit is the glory within us, and Christ is also a wall of fire outside of us protecting us. Hallelujah for such a Christ! We can enjoy Him and experience Christ as a wall of fire around us and as the glory within us in our spirit!

Even in the New Jerusalem, the Triune God in Christ will be the glory at its center (Rev. 21:23; 22:1, 5), and this glory will shine through the transparent jasper wall of the city to be its protection of fire (Rev. 21:11, 18, 24).

Christ is the Sender and the Sent One to Care for God’s People

In Zech. 2:8-9 we see that Christ is the Sent One by Jehovah of hosts - and He is also the Sender, Jehovah of hosts - for the care of God's people who are beloved and very dear to Him. What a comforting and encouraging word! [in the picture: Zech. 2:8]In Zech. 2:8-9 we see that Christ is the Sent One by Jehovah of hosts – and He is also the Sender, Jehovah of hosts – for the care of God’s people who are beloved and very dear to Him. What a comforting and encouraging word!

God loves us so much that if someone touches us, he touches the pupil of His eye (Zech. 2:11). We as believers in Christ and members of the Body of Christ are loved by God very dearly, and if anyone wants to touch us or harm us, God will protect us! God will plunder those who plunder us, and He waves His hand over them…. a punch for a punch!

He is with us where we are at, even in a low situation and condition, to redeem us and bring us back to Him, and at the same time, He protects us from anything or anyone that would harm us or touch us. How we love Him! We can experience and enjoy Christ as such a One by means of our spirit, by exercising our mingled spirit.

Lord Jesus, we love You as the man with the measuring line in Your hand. Measure us, Lord, that we may be fully possessed by You. Thank You for being a wall of fire around us and the glory within us. Thank You for Your encouraging and comforting word. Thank You for Your tender care for us, even calling us, the pupil of Your eye. Lord, we love You. We turn our heart to You. We want to exercise our God-given organ, our spirit, to enjoy You and experience You in all these aspects.

    # He’ll never, never leave me, nor yet forsake me here, / While I live by faith and do His blessed will; / A wall of fire about me, I’ve nothing now to fear, / With His manna He my hungry soul shall fill.
    # He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater, / He sendeth more strength when the labors increase, / To added affliction He addeth His mercy, / To multiplied trials, His multiplied peace.
    # Christ is the hope of glory, my very life is He, / He has regenerated and saturated me; / He comes to change my body by His subduing might / Like to His glorious body in glory bright!
