In order for us believers in Christ to live a life in the depths, it is necessary to have direct and intimate fellowship with the Lord to strike deep roots and live a hidden life in the depths, even to be a garden for Christ’s private enjoyment and satisfaction.
Lord Jesus, we love You! We give ourselves to You. We open to You. We want to spend time with You to just enjoy You. You are the most precious One. We want to live a life in the depths. May we have a direct and intimate fellowship with the Lord. May we daily open to You, dear Lord, and may we absorb Your riches to live for Your satisfaction today! Amen!
We believers in Christ need to be the kingdom people, the people of the kingdom of the heavens. In particular, as seen in Matthew 6:5-6, we need to have the experience of praying in private to contact our heavenly Father in secret so that we may have some secret enjoyment of Him.
Our Christian life is not mainly outward; it is a life in secret, a life in the depths, contacting the Lord secretly and intimately. When we pray, we are not like the hypocrites who love praying by standing in the church or before others on the street; such ones have received their reward in full.
We pray by coming to the Lord personally; we enter into our private room, we shut our door and pray to our Father who is in secret. If we do this, our heavenly Father, who sees in secret, will repay us.
When we do this, we kill the self who loves to be seen and the flesh who loves for others to appreciate it when it does good things – this is on the negative side.
On the positive side, we send roots deep down into Christ to absorb what He is, and we have secret and hidden experiences with God, for He sees in secret, He speaks to us in secret, and He answers us in secret. May we pray much but not let others how much we pray.
May we daily have the habit of entering our private room, spending time with the Lord in secret, and never exhibiting our righteous deeds before others.
We can live a hidden life in this way only by the divine life; we need to exercise our spirit and live by the divine life before the Lord. We need to learn from the Lord’s pattern of living a hidden life in His going up to the mountain privately to pray.
We need to go deeper with the Lord, asking Him to touch us in the depths of our being, make His home deep down in us, and then share something of Christ with others also to touch their depths.
On the one hand, we allow Christ as the seed of life to take root deep in the soil of our heart. On the other hand, we take root deep in the soil of the all-inclusive Christ.
May we have a hidden life with the Lord, contacting Him again and again and concerning all things, and never exposing our roots or showing to others everything that the Lord has shown to us.
To Live a Life in the Depths we need to have Direct and Intimate Fellowship with the Lord to be a Garden for His Private Satisfaction

The book of Song of Songs shows us how our romantic enjoyment and experience of Christ is taking place in the type of the loving seeker and her Beloved. In 4:12 we see how the loving seeker becomes a garden enclosed, a spring shut up, a fountain sealed.
This refers to our personal, intimate, and secret enjoyment and experience of Christ which causes us to be a garden for His private satisfaction.
In order for us believers in Christ to live a life in the depths, it is necessary to have direct and intimate fellowship with the Lord.
Our fellowship with the Lord cannot be only public, when we meet with other believers, or when we remember; we need to have direct and intimate fellowship with the Lord.
As the Lord’s loving seekers, we need to progress in our enjoyment and experience of Christ until we become a garden for Christ’s private satisfaction.
A garden is not an ordinary plot of land; it is not a general-purpose plot of land for everyone to visit and stay there.
A garden is not a field, where the seed is sown and then the ground is tilled. A garden is for beauty and enjoyment. There are flowers, trees, and all kinds of beautiful things that cause a garden to be beautiful.
A garden is not for vegetables or fruits; it is for pleasure and satisfaction. We are becoming something that pleases the Lord Jesus, giving Him satisfaction. We are becoming a garden enclosed, meaning that it’s not a public park for everyone to have access for enjoyment.
We are closed to others and we are open exclusively for Christ, for Him to enjoy. We enjoy Him and He enjoys us. We have inward beauty that is appreciated and enjoyed by Him, and He is the most lovely One for us to enjoy and partake of.
As we have direct and intimate fellowship with the Lord throughout the day, opening to Him from deep within and not merely asking things from Him, Christ has a way to work Himself into us.
His riches are experienced by us, His wealth is wrought into our being, and we become something beautiful, a garden, for Him to enjoy.
On our side, we do not divulge to others what we have enjoyed in our most private time with the Lord, for the rich and sweet experiences of Christ we have are exclusively for Christ and His satisfaction alone.
This means that we, believers in Chris,t should not consciously divulge our experience to men. We should not consciously exhibit our beauty, pursuit, and spiritual experience to others; we seal it all up for the Lord, for it is between the Lord and us.
Such a life in the depths in which we have direct and intimate fellowship with the Lord is what satisfies the Lord’s heart. As loving seekers of Christ, we are becoming a garden for Christ’s private satisfaction.
We are not an open garden but an enclosed garden, and all that we have is for our Beloved’s delight and for no one else.
We realise that our existence is not for ourselves; we exist for Christ, our Beloved. We are not just a garden producing beautiful flowers and satisfying fragrances; we are a garden enclosed for our beloved Lord Jesus.
The beauty within us, which is Christ Himself wrought into us and the riches of Christ deposited in us, is only for Christ to enjoy.
We do not display everything that the Lord has shown to us; we hold back what is for the Lord, the top part and the most intimate enjoyment, for we are here for His satisfaction, and we seek to please Him and no one else.
We drink from the river of water of life (Rev. 22:1) and we become a fountain for the Lord’s satisfaction.
As believers in Christ who are seeking the Lord, we need to have something private, hidden, shut up, and sealed just for Christ.
We love Him the most, we give all our love to Him, we want to enjoy Him, and we want to produce something for Him to be satisfied.
As a garden for Christ’s personal and private satisfaction, we have choicest fruits and the chief spices with their beauty and fragrance for the Lord’s enjoyment (S. S. 4:13-14).
The riches of Christ enjoyed by us become in us something sweet and fragrant for the Lord to enjoy.
As we enjoy the Lord and pursue after Him in love, we are beautiful before the Lord, and eventually we become the green couch (1:16) for us as the Lord’s lovers and Christ to live together in mutual rest and enjoyment.
In this mutual enjoyment between Christ in us, in our direct and intimate fellowship with the Lord, we produce fruits to nourish and refresh, we give forth sweet fragrances, and we display beautiful colours to become a restful couch of green for Christ’s rest and enjoyment.
Lord Jesus, we want to live a life in the depths today. We want to have direct and intimate fellowship with the Lord so that we enjoy Him personally and intimately. Amen, Lord, You are the most wonderful One. We pursue You in love. We want to gain more of You. We want to enjoy and experience You so that we may gain more of Your riches. Work Yourself into us. Grant us to have a rich and deep experience of Christ today. Amen, Lord, we treasure our time alone with You, having a direct and intimate fellowship with You. May we become a garden for Your private satisfaction. Amen, Lord, we want to be here for Your satisfaction, not for our own satisfaction. We close up our vessel toward other people and we fully open to You. May You be satisfied with the beauty of Christ wrought into us. May there be choice fruits and the chief spices with their beauty in our being for You to enjoy and be satisfied. Amen, Lord, may You be satisfied in us and with us, as we live in You, for You, with You, and one with You in all things! Keep us, Lord, in the direct and intimate fellowship with You today!
Enjoy Grace and Allow the Cross to Operate in us for us to Strike Deep Roots and Live a Hidden Life in the Depths to Fulfil God’s Requirements and Satisfy His Heart

The Lord Jesus is our pattern in living the Christian life. He came and lived a life for the Father; He did not only do things to please the Father but even more, He expressed the Father, spoke the Father’s words, and did the Father’s works.
The secret to His work and living was His hidden, intimate, and private time with the Father; He had a direct and intimate fellowship with the Father in all things.
When He was accepted by others, He retreated and spent time with the Father to give Him the glory. When others rejected Him, He extoled the Father and was satisfied with the Father.
We need to follow the Lord’s pattern today. We need to receive and enjoy His grace and allow the cross to do a deeper work in us so that we may strike deep roots and live a hidden life in the depths to fulfil God’s requirements and satisfy His heart.
The problem with us is that we are too open to everything and, as soon as we enjoy or experience something of Christ, we have to tell others.
If we have a deep experience of the Lord, are eager to let everyone know about it. Oh Lord!
In Numbers 18:15, we are told that, when a person dies in a tent, every open vessel, which has no cover fastened upon it, is unclean. Any vessel that is open to the public, and there’s death present, is unclean.
Any vessel that is open to everyone can and will become unclean, being affected by everything.
If we are not devoted exclusively to Christ, if we do not close our being to everything else and open only to the Lord for His satisfaction in our direct and intimate fellowship with Him, death will touch us and affect us. Oh Lord!
If we, believers in Christ would close up a little more and seal up tighter, our work will become more prevailing.
We need to be a garden enclosed for the Lord’s personal and private satisfaction. This means that we need to be single for the Lord, having eyes and heart only for Him, not for anyone else (John 12:3; 2 Cor. 2:15).
And the intimate experiences we have of Him and the personal answers He gives us in our direct and intimate fellowship with the Lord, we do not disclose to everyone; it is between us and Him, and we are here for His satisfaction.
Oh, may the Lord grant us grace and do a deeper work in us, in each one of us, through the cross, so that we may strike deep roots and live a hidden life in the depths to fulfil God’s requirements and satisfy His heart! Amen!
Many times we have to testify that our life is too shallow, not because we don’t experience Christ but because a large portion of it is exposed on the surface.
We may enjoy something of Christ, we may have an experience of the Lord, and He may touch us in a particular aspect, so we are eager to share this with everyone. Oh Lord!
It is a spiritual principle for our protection and going on in the Lord that we should not consciously exhibit our beauty, pursuit, and spiritual experience to others.
We need to seal ourselves up for the Lord; He may want us to share certain things, and we may release our portion for the building up of the church, but we live a hidden life in the depths, not before men.
This means that we need to have a personal, affectionate, private, and spiritual relationship with the Lord.
We are learning the spiritual lessons before the Lord in a deeper way; we are learning to have deeper personal, affectionate, private, and spiritual fellowship with the Lord, stage by stage, until we become fully one with Him.
May our garden be enclosed a little more, sealed up tighter to the outward things, even shut up more, so that Christ can enjoy us as His garden enclosed, a spring shut up, and a fountain sealed.
Lord Jesus, we love You and we give You all our love. We open to You, dear Lord, and we close our being to all other things. May we close up a little more and seal up tighter toward other things so that we may be for Your satisfaction today. Amen, we close our being to other things and we open it to You exclusively! Oh Lord, may our life not be shallow by exposing what we enjoy and experience of You to others. Grant us grace and do a deeper work in us through the cross so that we may strike deep roots and live a hidden life in the depths. Amen, Lord, may we today receive Your grace and allow the cross to operate in us so that we may live a hidden life in the depths. May our life and living before You and with You fulfil God’s requirements and satisfy His heart. Oh Lord, we live for You. We are not here for anything else except for Your satisfaction. May we have a deeper personal, affectionate, private and spiritual fellowship with You until we become a garden enclosed for You, a spring shut up for Your satisfaction, and a fountain sealed for You alone!

- Hymns on this topic:
– Deeper, deeper, in the cross of Jesus; / Deeper let me go; / Death and life, they always go together; / Deepen, Lord, the flow. / Oh, deeper yet we pray, / Do work in us each day; / Go deeper, through and through, / Till in Thee we’re wholly new. / Higher, higher, in the life of Jesus; / Lord, we are so low. / By Thy life we all can go much higher— / Higher let us go. / Oh, higher yet we pray— / Transform us every day— / And richer in the flow; / May Thy life be all we know. (Hymns #1240 stanzas 1-2)
– He has come into His garden, / Gathered myrrh and spices there, / Eaten honeycomb and honey; / Wine and milk He’ll drink fore’er. / From the garden comes the city, / All materials thus supplied; / God is satisfied completely, / And the foe is terrified. (Hymns #1161 stanzas 4-5)
– My Beloved, come on spices’ mountain; / How I yearn to see Thee face to face. / Drink, dear Lord, from my heart’s flowing fountain, / Till I rest fore’er in Thine embrace. / Not alone, O Lord, do I adore Thee, / But with all the saints as Thy dear Bride; / Quickly come, our love is waiting for Thee; / Jesus Lord, Thou wilt be satisfied. (Hymns #1159 stanza 4)

Dear brother, in order for us to live a life in the depths, it is necessary to have direct and intimate fellowship with the Lord.
We need to become a private garden for Christ’s satisfaction – not an open garden for everyone to see but a garden for the Lord to enjoy privately.
May the Lord grant us grace and do a deeper work in us through the cross so that we may strike deep roots and live a hidden life in the depths to fulfill God’s requirements and satisfy His heart.
As seeking Christians, in experiencing Christ, we must have something private, hidden, shut up, and sealed that is just for Christ. We must have something sealed for the One whom we love the most.
We need to live a life in the depths.
This life is a garden enclosed, a spring shut up, and a fountain sealed.
This kind of life is not one that pleases men but one that only pleases Christ.
In order to havea life of depths it is necessary to have direct and intimate fellowship with the Lord.
May the Lord grant us grace and do a deeper work in us through the cross so that we may strike deep roots and live a hidden life in the depths to fulfill God’s requirements and satisfy His heart
Amen. May we be such an enclosed garden for the Lord’s satisfaction.
Our existence is not for ourselves but for our beloved Christ. We need the kind of hidden life with Christ that pleases Him alone. We should be exclusively for His pleasure & satisfaction. May the Lord sealed us for His enjoyment. We wish to be for Your enjoyment & pleasure Lord.

Why can we be satisfied? We can be satisfied because the water that He will give us will become in us a spring of water gushing up into eternal life.
At that time, the disciples had all believed in the Lord Jesus. The Lord asked, “Do you now believe?” He also said, “You will be scattered each to his own place and will leave Me alone; yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.” We would have complained to God if we had been left alone, but the Lord said that the Father was with Him. He could try to draw comfort from all the disciples who had been with Him for years, but He did not put His hope in any one of them. Although they all left Him, He did not feel hurt or unsettled. On the contrary, He told them His experience so that they would have peace in Him.
Isaiah 53:2 is a word concerning the Lord Jesus which I treasure very much: “For He grew up like a tender plant before Him, / And like a root out of dry ground.” What does this mean? Everything He had was from God; He did not receive anything from His surroundings that would encourage, support, or comfort Him. His life was a straight line. Our Lord took the straight path from this world to His destiny. (Watchman Nee, The Reason the Lord Was Not Disappointed)
