Christ is the real Slave of God; we are slaves of God because we love Him

Christ is the real Slave of God; we are slaves of God because we love HimToday I enjoyed very much message 68 from the Exodus-Life Study. I would like to share few things that touched me.

The first ordinance given by God was concerning slavery. A slave is a person who has no rights and has no self interest but knows only to sacrifice. Jesus is our pattern of being a slave of God. Though He was equal to God He emptied Himself and humbled Himself. He became a slave out of love for us and out of obedience to God.

Today we also should live a life of a slave. Once we were the slaves of sin and world. In order to release us from such kind of slavery the Lord Jesus became a slave. Through His death and resurrection, He released us.

Today we are being transformed into another kind of slavery, i.e. a slave to God and a slave to one another. We can’t live a life of slavery by our natural life but when we turn to our spirit and touch the life of Jesus we can live out such a life.

According to Exodus 21:2, a Hebrew slave was to be set free after serving his master six years. However the slave might “plainly say, I love my master, my wife and my children, I will not go out free”. Here we see that continuing as a slave is not a legal requirement, it is a matter of love. This is the type of love that Christ has.

The master in this verse refers to the Father, the wife refers to the church, and the children refer to the saints. Christ loves the Father (John 14:31), Christ loves the church (Eph. 5:25) and Christ loves all the believers, all the saints (Gal. 2:20).

Motivated by such love He was willing to be a slave. Christ is the real slave of God and also the One who serves man with God and for God’s purpose.

Lord I love You, I love the church, and I also love the saints. But Lord, increase my love more and more so that I can love You, the Church and the saints to the uttermost, to a level where through You, in You, and by You I can be a slave to everyone. Once I love I can be a slave, I can be obedient to You, to the church and to all the saints. Give me a proper spirit of such a slave, the love of a slave and the obedience of a slave. Amen.
