Our Christ is all-inclusive – we recently got into the book of Hebrews and saw many aspects of the all-inclusive Christ in Hebrews, and now we are in the gospel of Matthew this week, seeing over twenty aspects of the all-inclusive Christ!
Christ is the center and circumference of God’s economy, He is the centrality and universality of God’s economy, and He is the One that God finds delight in. It’s all about Christ in the Bible – the spirit of the Bible is to exalt Christ, and Christ is the center of everything.
God desires Christ, God gives us only Christ, and from us God desires that we may enjoy, experience, offer, and minister only Christ. The Body of Christ, which is us the church, is actually Christ in His increase.
Christ is the reality of every positive thing in the universe, and He fills all and in all. So why talk about anything else? Why exalt anything else?
Paul told the Corinthian believers that he preaches Christ (1 Cor. 1:23) and this One crucified, and he doesn’t want to know anything among them but Christ (1 Cor. 2:2). Really, Christ is everything.
We are wasting our time if we talk about doctrines, teachings, ordinances, traditions, stories, etc – if we don’t talk about Christ as the center of everything. Even our experiences with God should be an experience of Christ – nothing in our spiritual life can be apart from Christ.
Christ has become our very life, and He is also our person. So here are three of the many aspects of the all-inclusive Christ in the Gospel of Matthew.
- Christ is the Son of David and He is the Son of Abraham (Matt. 1:1) – Christ as the son of David (Matt. 22:42; Rev. 22:16) was typified by Solomon who inherited the kingdom of Israel (2 Sam. 7:12-13), had wisdom and spoke the words of wisdom, and built the temple of God (2 Sam. 7:13). Christ as the real Solomon also inherits the kingdom of God and is the King, He has wisdom and speaks the words of God – He is greater than Solomon (Matt. 12:42), and Christ is the One who builds up God’s temple, the church (Matt. 16:18). Christ is the real son of David – Solomon was just a type, and the prophecy concerning Solomon was actually fulfilled in Christ. Christ is the Son of Abraham (Matt 1:1) – Christ as the son of Abraham was typified by Isaac who brought the blessing to all the nations(both Jews and Gentiles, as seen in Gen 22:18a), was offered to God unto death and was resurrected (Gen. 22:1-12), and received the bride (Gen. 24:67). Christ is the real Isaac, the One who brought the blessing to all the nations – Christ Himself as the Spirit is the promised blessing (Gal. 3:14-16); Christ is the One who was offered to God unto death and He was resurrected (Heb. 11:17-19), and Christ is the One who after resurrection will receive the bride (John 3:29; Rev. 19:7). Hallelujah, Christ is the real son of Abraham!
- Christ is the heavenly King (Matt. 2:1-2; 21:5) – in the gospel of Matthew we see that Christ is the heavenly king, the Messiah, prophesied in the Old Testament – He is called, The Christ. What is particular about this King is that Christ did not come with haughty splendor, but with gentle, humble meekness. When He entered into Jerusalem, He didn’t ride majestically on a mighty horse, but on a donkey, on a colt – He was humble, meek, and did not seek human glory. Christ is the REAL King – He is the heavenly King!
- Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God – as we see in Matt. 16:16, Peter was inspired by the Father to speak these words to the Lord in response to His question, Who do men say that I am. The Lord Jesus is THE CHRIST – referring to His commission, to Him being the anointed One of God, accomplishing God’s eternal purpose through His crucifixion, resurrection, ascension, and second coming. Also, Christ is the SON OF THE LIVING GOD – referring to His Person – He embodies the Father and issues in the Spirit for the full expression of the Triune God!
What a wonderful Christ! Of course, these are only three of the many aspects of Christ revealed in the Gospel of Matthew. I am looking forward to see and enjoy more of this Christ – He is so rich! Human words can’t describe Him or ascribe glory and honor to Him – but we do our best to speak Him forth! [sharing inspired from the life-study of Matthew, as quoted in the HWMR on the Crucial Elements of the Bible]
Lord Jesus, we love You! You are the Son of David – the real Solomon who builds up the Body, the church, the temple of God! You speak the words of wisdom and the words of life! Lord, You are the son of Abraham – You are the Bridegroom who will get the Bride! You enjoy all that the Father has and is! Thank You for coming to give Yourself to death for us! You are the One who died and was resurrected. What a wonderful One You are. We love You as the heavenly king, and as the Christ, the Son of the Living God!
