The prophets in the Old Testament typify the Holy Spirit as the anointing ointment in the New Testament; the anointing Spirit within us is the Prophet, and we all can know God and can prophesy one by one.
In the Old Testament there were mainly two ways that God spoke to His people, the law and the prophets. The law was God’s written word, a definition of who God is, an exhibition of His inner being; the law was written, set, and could not be changed.
If the people of Israel wanted to know God and His being, they had to go to the law; if they wanted to know who their God is and what is He like, they had to read the written law.
The law was fixed, unchangeable; the law clearly revealed God as being light, love, holiness, and righteousness, and there was no letter of the law that could be modified or not kept by God’s people.
The law expresses God’s nature which is unchangeable, fixed; He is holy, He is righteous, He is light, and He is love – this is what and who He is.
However, in the Old Testament there were also the prophets, who represent God Himself who is living and flexible.
For example, the prophets sometimes were told to do things that may not have been according to the law, but they were according to God’s instant leading; Hosea was asked to marry a harlot to express to the children of Israel a particular thing that they did and how God was dealing with it.
On one hand Hosea marrying a harlot was against God’s nature, even against the law, but on the other hand, this was according to God’s instant leading and it was to express something of the flexible and living nature of God.
On one hand, God has a nature which is fixed, unchangeable; on the other hand, He is a living person with an instant leading, and He speaks to His people instantly according to what He is depending on certain needs and situations.
In the New Testament we also have these two matters – the law and the prophets – but now they are inside of us, not outside of us.
The law has come into us to be the law of the Spirit of life, which operates in us organically and spontaneously to shape us into the image of God so that we may live out and express His nature.
Because we have the law of life, whenever we live by the divine life in our spirit, we are shaped and conformed into the image of Christ, the firstborn Son of God; this happens spontaneously according to the law of the Spirit of life.
On the other hand, we have the anointing of the Spirit, the reality of the prophets; the anointing lives in us and teaches us concerning all things, and even more: the anointing is the prophet in us! Hallelujah!
The Holy Spirit as the Anointing has Entered into us to be our Prophet and Teach us all things
In the New Testament the Holy Spirit has replaced the work of the prophets (see Luke 1:41-42, 46-55, 67-79).
The law has been replaced by the law of the Spirit of life which is within us operating spontaneously and organically whenever we turn to the Lord, and the prophets in the Old Testament have been replaced by the Holy Spirit as the anointing.
In 1 John 2:20 and 27 we see that we all have received an anointing, which teaches us in all things; we don’t have any need for anyone to teach us, for the anointing teaches us, and the anointing teaches us is true and is not a lie, so we abide in Him.
Hallelujah, in our spirit we have the anointing of the Holy Spirit which teaches us all things!
We have seen that the Lord Jesus is the Prophet raised by God to speak to His people, and all God’s people should listen to Him; this Prophet went through death and resurrection to become the Spirit, and this Spirit has come into us as the anointing to be our inward Prophet teaching us all things.
The anointing of the Holy Spirit has replaced the prophets in the Old Testament (see Acts 3:21-22; 1 Cor. 15:45; 2 Cor. 3:17; Acts 1:2; 2:4); now the anointing Spirit within us is the Prophet.
Now there’s no need for us to “go to the prophet” for we have a prophet within us, in our mingled spirit.
When we listen to the voice of the anointing within, when we allow the Spirit to speak to us and we obey His speaking, we have a clear knowledge of God’s will, His desire, and His plan concerning us and our life, and we simply abide in the Lord.
The Holy Spirit, the anointing element, has entered into us to be our prophet (Rom. 8:11, 16; 1 Cor. 6:17; Gal. 4:4, 6); we are joined to the Lord as one spirit, and in spirit we have His leading and His guiding.
There’s no need for us today to go to someone to tell us what is God’s will for our life, for we have the Prophet living in us!
The Holy Spirit as the anointing ointment has entered into us to be our Prophet, and whenever we turn to our spirit and allow the Spirit to anoint us, we just know – we know God’s will, we know His leading, and we know His desire.
In situation after situation, in problem after problem, and even in joy after joy, we need to turn to the Lord and seek His leading; He as the Spirit will anoint us, we will gain more of God with His element, and we will know God subjectively.
Actually, the Prophet within us – the Holy Spirit as the anointing – teaches us to know God; His main function is not merely to tell us to go this way or that way, but His function is to add the element of God to us, to add more of what God is to our being so that we may know God subjectively.
In the Old Testament the representatives through whom the Holy Spirit gave revelations were the prophets (see 2 Pet. 1:21), but today the Spirit of revelation – typified by the prophets – is in us, and it is the Spirit who gives us revelation in the full knowledge of God and of His will (see Eph. 1:17-18; 1 Cor. 14:29-30).
Hallelujah!
Hallelujah, the Holy Spirit as the anointing has entered into us to be our prophet and teach us all things! Praise the Lord, we have a Prophet in our spirit who teaches us everything concerning God and us by anointing us with God and all that God is! Amen, Lord, we turn to You and we want to obey the inner anointing; may we listen to Your speaking within, and may we allow You to anoint us and add all that God is to our being. Save us from going to man to get leading and guidance – may we know You as the anointing, the Prophet in our spirit teaching us all things!
The Anointing Spirit within us is the Prophet, and we all can Know God and Prophesy!
The anointing Spirit within us is the Prophet (2 Cor. 1:21; 1 John 2:20, 27); by regeneration we have received the anointing, and this anointing constantly teaches us concerning all things and is true and is not a lie.
So if we want to go to a certain place, if we want to move somewhere for the Lord’s move, what should we do? Should we go to “the brothers” or “the elders” to ask them to pray for us and tell us what to do?
We shouldn’t go to others for leading; the only One in the Body that can offer leading is Christ, for He is the Head.
No one can be a prophet to others, and we should not try to be prophets for those around us; no one should tell others what to do, and no one should ask others what to do.
Instead of “going to the prophet” outwardly we need to seek the leading of the Spirit as the anointing ointment within us; the Spirit anoints us, the anointing Spirit within us is the Prophet, and He teaches us concerning all things.
The responsible brothers in the church are NOT our prophets, the co-workers are NOT our prophets, and needless to say, we ourselves are NOT others’ prophets.
May we really see that the Spirit who inspired people to be prophets in the Old Testament is now within us as the anointing ointment, and He teaches us all things.
The anointing Spirit has entered into us to be our living Prophet; if we want to have God’s speaking and His leading according to our situation and condition, we need to contact the Lord and obey the inner anointing.
In the Old Testament the Spirit of God came upon certain people and moved only them; now, in the New Testament age, the anointing Spirit has entered into us to be our Prophet (Num. 11:25-26, 29).
Such a prophet-hood is no longer limited to just a few as in the Old Testament, only those “moved by the Spirit” in an outward way; now in the New Testament all believers can be prophets, for we have the anointing Spirit within us as the Prophet. Hallelujah!
The Spirit who inspired people to be prophets has entered into us as the anointing Spirit to be our Prophet, and He not only teaches us concerning all things, but He also speaks in us and through us to make us prophets, those who speak for God and speak forth God!
So as long as we have the Spirit, the anointing Spirit, we have the Prophet in us, and we are qualified to speak for God.
We can’t speak for God in and of ourselves – we can speak for God, we can prophesy, when we listen to the inner anointing Spirit as the Prophet within us, and then speak what He speaks, that is, speak the word of God.
The church doesn’t need “spiritual giants” to act as prophets but rather, we all need to prophesy in the sense of speaking for God and speaking forth God for the building up of the church as the Body of Christ.
We can prophesy because the anointing Spirit within us is the Prophet, so now we can know God, we can know His heart and His desire, and we can speak for God and speak forth God for the building up of the church.
Thank You Lord for coming into us to be the anointing Spirit, our inward Prophet who teaches us all things and speaks to us concerning God and His will and His being. Hallelujah, we all are prophets today because we have the inward anointing Spirit who teaches us to know God and to speak for God and speak forth God! Amen, Lord, recover the proper function of all the members of the Body – may we all know God subjectively, be anointed with all that God is, and exercise to speak for God and speak forth God to others for building up!
