Our Ultimate Responsibility is to be Saturated with Christ to Live Christ for the Body

We need to know this age and the present truth and see a vision of God’s sovereignty, the world’s ultimate situation, and God’s ultimate recovery in order to fulfill our ultimate responsibility in God’s ultimate move by honoring the Lord as the Head and being balanced by the Body to be kept in its unique oneness. The world situation today is ultimate because it is extremely unlikely that God would rearrange the world situation to raise up another power that will fulfill the function of the United States as a nation taking the lead and even limiting other nations, so that the way may be opened for God’s ultimate move in His recovery – for which we bear the ultimate responsibility.

This week we want to see what it means for us to bear the ultimate responsibility in God’s ultimate move.

As we see that the world has an ultimate situation, the Lord has an ultimate move, and we are in His ultimate recovery, we should not have the attitude of, “Lord, here I am, send him – send someone else”, but, “Lord, here I am, ready to fulfill my part, my measure, my function, in this ultimate responsibility we need to bear for Your ultimate move on earth!”

When we speak of bearing the ultimate responsibility for God’s ultimate move, we refer to the entire organic Body of Christ, which presently functions through the local churches; the Body is the governing principle of the church, the ministry, and the work.

The church is the Body in local expression, the life of the Body in miniature. The ministry is the Body in function, the Body functioning in service. The work is the Body seeking increase. In all these three aspects, the Body is the governing principle.

When we speak of our need to bear the ultimate responsibility for God’s ultimate move, we need to realize that every member of the Body and every believer has the responsibility to cooperate with God in His ultimate move.

Every member of the Body functions and has the responsibility in the Body and for the Body to cooperate with God’s ultimate move.

We need to realize that we are not only believers in Christ and children of God, but also members of the Body of Christ who can’t live without the Body – just as they can’t live without the Triune God.

Especially we in the Lord’s recovery to whom much light and truth has been shown – we have a great responsibility to the Lord and to the Body to live Christ, enjoy Christ, express Christ, and build up the Body of Christ for Him to have a corporate expression on earth.

Those who don’t know much will receive a few stripes, but those who knew a lot but didn’t do what the Master commanded them to do will receive many lashes (see Luke 12). We need to be touched and even bothered in a positive way by the indwelling Spirit to seek the Lord, open to Him, give ourselves to Him, and ask Him,

Lord Jesus, what is my part in this ultimate responsibility that we have to cooperate with You for Your ultimate move? I am a member of the Body, and I want to function in my measure to bear my ultimate responsibility related to the world’s ultimate situation, God’s ultimate move, and God’s ultimate recovery! Amen, Lord, here I am: I am ready to fulfill my part, my measure, and my function in the Body in this ultimate responsibility!

Our Ultimate Responsibility is to be Saturated with Christ to Live Christ for the Body

Our ultimate responsibility is to be saturated and permeated with Christ for the church as the Body of Christ, the one new man. Our ultimate responsibility today to cooperate with God’s ultimate move in this world’s ultimate situation is to live Christ, bring Christ wherever we go, and live in the spirit for the Body of Christ to come into existence.

This means that we need to put off the old man and put on the new man by exercising our spirit and living in spirit, walking by the Spirit, and being in the Spirit, so that we may be in actuality the Body of Christ corporately (Eph. 4:24).

The Body of Christ is one (Eph. 4:4), and this Body is the new man in actuality, a new creation with a new living to express the Triune God.

As those who have been shown mercy by the Lord to see that He has an ultimate move today, we need to bear the ultimate responsibility of bearing the testimony of Jesus (Rev. 1:2, 9), being His witnesses on earth (Acts 1:8), and bear fruit by abiding in Him (John 15:5, 16).

Our ultimate responsibility today is to be saturated and permeated with Christ for the church as the Body of Christ, the one new man. Therefore, we need to consecrate ourselves, enjoy the Lord in the word and in the ministry, and bear our ultimate responsibility of letting the Lord saturate us and permeate us so that we may live in spirit and walk according to the Spirit for the Body of Christ.

No one can bear this responsibility for us; we need to personally turn our heart to the Lord, open our being to Him, consecrate ourselves to Him, and exercise our spirit to pray,

Lord, work Yourself into me, saturate me, permeate me, Christify me, and deify me for the Body! I give You my heart: make my heart a duplication of Your heart in every possible way! Amen, Lord, grow in me, transform me, and permeate me with Yourself for the building up of the Body of Christ!

Eph. 4:16 Out from whom all the Body, being joined together and being knit together through every joint of the rich supply and through the operation in the measure of each one part, causes the growth of the Body unto the building up of itself in love. The Lord desires to do this in us, and it matters to Him if we give Him our cooperation for His ultimate move in man.

Our ultimate responsibility is to live Christ, to bear a living witness to Him in our daily life, and to know nothing but Christ – the all-inclusive One who is revealed in the completing ministry of Paul and the mending ministry of John.

As we enjoy the Lord, are saturated with Him, and we come together, we are the one Body and the one new man, with no discrimination as to our background or race – we are one Body in Christ, expressing Him on earth in oneness and in the one accord!

When we meet together as those who cooperate with the Lord for His ultimate move, we live Christ and express Christ to be the Body of Christ, the new man, the lampstand, and the bride of Christ – in oneness!

Hallelujah, we today can live Christ, testify Christ, and preach Christ as the all-inclusive, all-extensive One who is now the life-giving Spirit as the ultimate expression of the Triune God, to be the church, the Body of Christ!

Lord Jesus, we want to bear the ultimate responsibility to live Christ by living in Spirit for the building up of the Body of Christ. We open to You, Lord Jesus: saturate us and permeate us with Yourself for the church as the Body of Christ, the one new man! We turn our heart to You, we open our whole being to You, and we consecrate ourselves to You, giving You the permission to saturate us and permeate us with Christ for the Body! We want to live You and testify You wherever we go, and be in oneness with the saints to be the Body of Christ, the one new man!

Preaching the Gospel, Teaching the Truth, Meeting in the God-ordained way, and Being Saturated with Christ for the Body!

Our ultimate responsibility is to live Christ and to meet together in our locality in such a way that we may be the Body, the new man, the lampstand, and the bride. We meet in oneness. The Christ we live, [testify], and preach is not divided....We live Him according to this view that we have of Him. We live the all-inclusive, extensive Christ who is now the life-giving Spirit as the ultimate expression of the Triune God after many processes. And we meet together according to locality as the church, the church which is not only an assembly but also the Body, the new man, the lampstand, and the bride. We also practice the genuine oneness in every locality — one Body, one Spirit, one city, one church. Witness Lee, The World Situation and God’s Move, ch. 7We must realize the great responsibility that we as believers in Christ and members of the Body of Christ have regarding preaching the gospel, teaching the divine truths, and meeting according to the way ordained by God. However, we should not be satisfied with these three things, for they cannot fulfill God’s desire (Matt. 24:14; 28:19).

We begin by being filled with the word of God and the complete gospel, and preaching the gospel to disciple the nations, teaching them to observe all that the Lord has commanded us.

We continue by letting the word of Christ dwell in us richly (Col. 3:16) and being filled with the divine truths in the completing ministry of Paul and the mending ministry of John, and we teach the divine truths. And we meet according to the way that God has ordained, in the way of life.

But these three matters can’t fulfill God’s desire, and we shouldn’t be satisfied with them. If we think that we can save enough people, teach enough truth, and establish enough churches, and this will bring the Lord back, then we are mere Christianity.

The separating line between us and Christianity is the Lord’s ultimate move, His move in man to saturate and permeate man so that He may gain a corporate expression, the Body of Christ.

We need to be saturated and permeated with Christ as our life until we live Him corporately; only this will fulfill the desire of the Lord’s heart.

This has to burn in us day and night, realizing the Lord’s deep eternal desire to have a corporate expression in the Body of Christ in this age, the bride of Christ in the next age, and the kingdom of God for eternity.

Based upon the gospel preaching, teaching the truth, and practicing the church life according to the way God has ordained, we go forward to be saturated with Christ and permeated with Him for the church as the Body of Christ, the one new man (Eph. 3:16; 4:12, 16, 24).

God’s purpose is not fulfilled by gospel preaching, Bible teaching, and scriptural meetings alone; we need to get into the divine truths in the completing ministry of Paul and the mending ministry of John and cooperate with the Lord’s inward work of saturating us with Himself for the church, the Body of Christ.

Lord Jesus, cause us to realize the great responsibility we have regarding preaching the gospel, teaching the divine truths, and meeting according to the way ordained by God. May we further realize our ultimate responsibility to cooperate with God’s ultimate move to be saturated and permeated with God for the building up of the church as the Body of Christ. Lord, it is Your desire to saturate us and permeate us with Christ until we live Him corporately – do it in us! May Your heart’s desire be fulfilled in us as we bear the ultimate responsibility to be filled with Christ, be saturated with Christ, and live Christ for the Body of Christ!

I am afraid that what you may be impressed with is gospel preaching, Bible teaching, and good meetings. You may not have much realization of this all-inclusive Christ. Our responsibility is to live this Christ, to bring this Christ wherever we go. To do this requires that we be fully in the spirit, that we live by the Spirit, and that we walk by the Spirit, even by the sevenfold intensified Spirit.

Those who live Christ, who live in the spirit, are the actual Body of Christ corporately. This Body is one (Eph. 4:4). They are also the new man in actuality, a new creation with a new living to express the Triune God. (Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1981, vol. 1, “The World Situation and God’s Move,” pp. 353-354)
