This morning I was encouraged by this verse in Eph. 1:10 which says,
Unto the economy of the fullness of the times, to head up all things in Christ, the things in the heavens and the things on the earth, in Him.
God’s desire is to head up all things in Christ. The whole universe, due to the angelic rebellion and the human rebellion, has become “a heap of collapse”. Everyone in this universe is in a state of collapse, in the fall. But God desires to bring under Christ all things – Christ to be the Head, and the whole universe to be expressing Him by being headed up in Him.
The first step is to bring His chosen ones, us the believers, out of the collapse and to place them under the headship of Christ! When we received the Lord Jesus, we received Him both as our life and as our Lord, and we entered into a process of being headed up in Christ!
Now in the church life, we need to be headed up daily, learning to take Christ as our Head and as our Lord. God is heading up all His chosen ones to be the Body of Christ with Christ as the Head and us, the many believers, as the Body of the Head.
Eventually, this Body of Christ with Christ as the Head will be the universal Head over all things, ruling and reigning over the earth for God in full!
In the church life we’re taking the lead to be headed up in Christ in all things
This heading up of all things starts with us – we, the believers in the church, are taking the lead to be headed up in Christ. If we are not willing to do this, we will delay the heading up of all things in Christ. But if we are willing, we can be the pioneers that take the lead to be headed up in Christ – and when the church takes the lead to be headed up in Christ, God has a way to head up all the other things in Christ!
Just like man took the lead to fall in the garden of Eden, today God is seeking men who take the lead to be headed up in Christ, the unique Head! The entire universe, including the nature itself, is in a state of collapse and rebellion.
People have problems with one another and with the animals, and the beasts have problems and enmity with man. In the whole universe, there is a lot of fighting and struggle caused by rebellion. But if we want to have a glorious church that expresses Christ, we must be willing to be headed up in Christ in all things.
We may attend school or university, we may work, we may be in our family life or church life – everywhere we can see the state of collapse, everyone is in rebellion, and nothing is headed up. But in the proper church life we are being headed up!
This is the beginning of God heading up all things in Christ! Under Christ and through the church, God will eventually head up all things in the universe!
Hallelujah, in the church life we are not a heap of collapse – we are being delivered out of the fallen state by being headed up under Christ as the Head!
How does this happen? The proper heading up is actually the growing of the divine life in us. We can’t force ourselves to be headed up and we can’t help others to be headed up – but the more we grow in the divine life every day, the more we take Christ as our Head and our Lord!
The more we grow in life, the more divine life we have, the more heading up there will be, and the more we will be rescued from the heap of collapse and be one with Christ! It’s not by our human effort, and it cannot be done overnight – we need to just cooperate with the Lord to grow in the divine life!
The only thing that avails is the growth in life – the best help we can render others is to help them grow in the divine life! Instead of correcting or adjusting others, we would help them much more by ministering the life supply to them so that they may grow in life!
The heading up of all things in Christ in our life and in the church life depends altogether upon our growth in life. [enjoyment from the Life-study of Ephesians and Eph. 1:10]
O Lord, grow in us! May the divine life in us grow and develop! Save us from the state of collapse, Lord! We don’t want to be in the fall anymore! Head us up in every aspect of our life! Lord, head up every part of our being and living by growing in us little by little every day! O, Lord Jesus, grow in us!
