It is the Lord’s mercy and grace that today we are blessed with having a complete revelation of the “compound Spirit” which was revealed in type in Exo. 30 with the holy ointment and in reality in the New Testament, being called “the Spirit” (John 7:39; Rev. 22:17).
The Triune God went through a long process of incarnation, human living, crucifixion, death, resurrection, and ascension, and He became a life-giving compound Spirit in which we have both God, man, and divinity, humanity, perfect human living, death, resurrection, and the power of resurrection.
When we are born again by repenting, confessing our sins, and calling on the name of the Lord, we receive this wonderful compound Spirit in us, and this Spirit is what the Bible calls “the anointing” which teaches us all things concerning the Triune God (see 1 John 2:27).
The anointing in our spirit is the moving and the working of the indwelling compound Spirit to apply all the “ingredients” of the processed Triune God and His activities into our being, so that we as believers in Christ may be fully mingled with God for His corporate expression.
The anointing anoints us, paints us, with all the elements in it; as we open to the Lord and listen to His inner anointing, we are “painted” with Christ’s death, His resurrection, His divinity, His humanity, and all His ingredients which were compounded – according to the art of the compounder – in the Spirit. This is indeed wonderful!
However, just as many people go through their human life without being aware of the human life which grows, develops, and matures in them, and thus they don’t get all the benefits of cooperating with the human life in the best way, so many believers do not know that the compound Spirit is in them as the anointing to “paint” them, soak them, and anoint them all the time with all that God is, has, has achieved, and has attained.
Oh, what a mercy to see that today we as believers in Christ have the compound Spirit with our spirit as the anointing, and we are daily having the Triune God moving and working in us to apply and add all His elements to our being until we become His expression in full corporately!
If we let the Word of Life Abide in us, we shall Abide in the Son and in the Father!
In 1 John the apostle deals with some of the heresies that spread in the church life concerning Christ not being one with the Father, and in 1 John 2:24 he says that, if we let that which was from the beginning (the Word of life, see 1 John 1:1-2) abide in us, we shall abide both in the Son and in the Father.
This is similar to what the Lord said in John 15:4, “Abide in Me, and I in you” – with the addition that, if we allow the Lord’s word to abide in us, we abide both in the Son and in the Father, that is, we abide in the Triune God. This shows us that the Son is one with the Father, and the Father is one with the Son.
The Word of life is the Lord Himself; if we allow the Lord as the word of life to abide in us, we will abide in the Triune God, in the Son being one with the Father.
In the New Testament we clearly see that the Father and the Son are one: Christ the Son came in the Father’s name, spoke the Father’s word, did the Father’s will, sought the Father’s glory, and in everything He expressed the Father (see John 5:43; 4:34; 5:30; 6:38; 7:18; 10:30). When others saw Christ the Son, they saw the Father, for the Father and the Son were fully one (John 10:30).
In 1 John 2:25 the apostle goes on to say that, This is the promise which He Himself promised to us, the eternal life. Who is this “He Himself”? It is the Father and the Son, who are two yet one, and He promised to us eternal life, which is God Himself in Christ as the Spirit to be our life. The single pronoun He, referring to both the Son and the Father in the previous verse, indicates that the Father and the Son are one.
According to our Christian experience, the Triune God – the Father, the Son, and the Spirit – are all one, and they are all in us as the eternal life, constantly anointing us and imparting life to our spirit, soul, and body (see Rom. 8).
As the Apostle John was exposing the heresies that were spread by some in the church life, he revealed some marvelous matters concerning the Triune God, such as the Son being one with the Father, we abiding in the Son and in the Father by allowing the Word of life to abide in us, and Him giving us eternal life as He promised.
Whenever we read the Word of God in a living way by mixing it with our prayer, musing, consideration, and exercise of our spirit, we allow the word of God to dwell in us richly (Col. 3:16) and thus we abide in the Father and in the Son, having a subjective knowledge of the Triune God by the anointing which abides in us and teaches us concerning all things.
Lord Jesus, we want to let the Word of life abide in us so that we may abide both in the Son and in the Father! Amen, Lord, we want to abide in You so that You may abide in us. Thank You for the anointing which teaches us all things concerning the Triune God; by heeding the anointing we let the word of life abide in us and we abide in the Triune God! Grant us such a subjective knowledge of the Triune God in which the word of life abides in us, we abide in the Father and in the Son, and we have the eternal life!
Eternal Life, the Word of Life, Jesus, Christ, the Father, and the Son are the Anointing
“This is the promise which He Himself promised us, the eternal life” (1 John 2:25). This “He Himself” is the Father and the Son, who are one; as far as our experience of the divine life is concerned, the Son, the Father, Jesus, and Christ are all one. It’s not that only the Son (and not the Father) is the eternal life to us; it is that Jesus, being the Christ as the Son and the Father, is the eternal divine life to us for our portion.
The eternal life promised to us by the Father and the Son is Jesus, Christ, the Son, and the Father – all are the divine life, according to the context of 1 John 2:22-25. The eternal life in v. 25 is the Word of life, and the Word of life is Jesus, Christ, the Father, and the Son; all these elements have been compounded into the compound anointing Spirit, who is now the anointing within us. Wow!
So the anointing is compounded with the Word of life, the eternal life, Jesus, Christ, the Father, and the Son (according to 1 John 2). With the Father we have the divinity, with the Son we have life, with Jesus we have humanity and death, and with Christ we have the anointed One and resurrection.
These all are elements, ingredients, of the compound Spirit as the anointing within us; in this compound ointment we have divinity, humanity, incarnation, crucifixion, resurrection, and life.
This is the same as what we have in type in Exo. 20:23-25 in the compound ointment used to anoint the furnishings of the tabernacle: a hin of olive oil (the Spirit, divinity) with four kinds of spices (humanity) – flowing myrrh (the precious death of Christ), sweet cinnamon (the sweetness and effectiveness of Christ’s death), fragrant calamus (Christ’s resurrection), and cassia (the power of Christ’s resurrection).
Whenever we turn to our spirit and prayerfully read the word of God, the anointing within paints us and saturates us with all the elements of Christ’s divinity, humanity, death, resurrection, and life so that we may be thoroughly mingled with God for His expression.
What we need today is more experience of the inward anointing! It may seem that in 1 John 2 – and sometimes even in our experience of reading the Bible – the things spoken of are “repetitive”, again and again reading of the Father being one with the Son, the Son being the Father, the Spirit being the reality of the Son and the Father…but repetition is penetration, that is, repetition is painting!
When we pray over 1 John 2:24-25 what we get is not mere mental understanding and sound doctrine of the Triune God – we are painted with the eternal life, the Word of life, Jesus, Christ, the Son, and the Father to be mingled more with the Triune God for His expression!
Lord Jesus, anoint us more today with all the elements of Your divinity, humanity, incarnation, crucifixion, resurrection, and life. We want to be painted and soaked and saturated more with the compound Spirit with all its ingredients and elements so that we may be more mingled with the Triune God for His corporate expression. Amen, Lord, more painting, more anointing, and more mingling! Hallelujah, the Son is one with the Father, and we confess the Son to have the Father! Praise the Lord, we have the eternal life, the word of life, the Father, the Son, Christ, and Jesus in the compound life-giving Spirit as the anointing indwelling us!

The eternal life in verse 25 is the Word of life, and the Word of life is Jesus, Christ, the Father, and the Son. Here we have six matters: Jesus, Christ, the Father, the Son, the Word of life, and eternal life. From the Bible, especially from 1 John, we know that Jesus is the Christ, that Christ equals the Father and the Son, and that this One is also the Word of life and the eternal life.
Together Jesus, Christ, the Father, the Son, the Word of life, and eternal life are a divine compound. All these six are elements that have been compounded into a single ointment. In Jesus we have humanity, with the Father we have divinity, and with Christ we have the anointed One. With Jesus we have the incarnation, with Christ we have the resurrection, and with the Son we have life. Therefore, with these elements we have all the ingredients of the compound ointment: divinity, humanity, incarnation, crucifixion, resurrection, and life.
