David typifies the warring Christ in the midst of sufferings; He is not only the King and the Priest but also the Warrior, the Victor, both in His human life on earth and when He returns – He will be the fighting One with His overcomers against Antichrist and his armies.
David is one of the most thorough types of Christ, covering a large period of time and typifying Christ in many aspects and functions.
In particular, in the type of David and Abigail, Christ is the warring One in the midst of sufferings, and Abigail typifies the warring church.
In a personal sense, in a way of applying the type of Nabal and Abigail to our experience personally, Nabal typifies our old man, our natural man, who is opposing Christ and rejecting Him.
But praise the Lord, Christ came and our old man has been crucified with Him; now that our old man is terminated, we are joined to another, to Christ as our Husband.
We are now His counterpart and we join Him in His sufferings, fighting one with Him in His battles for the bringing in of the kingdom of God.
In this sharing, we want to see how David typifies the warring Christ in the midst of sufferings.
David Typifies the Warring Christ in the midst of Sufferings – He’s the Victorious One in the midst of Sufferings
When Abigail accepted David’s proposal to be his wife, his counterpart, she realized that he will be engaged in warfare in the midst of sufferings.
She knew she will live a life of sufferings with him as he was fighting to bring in the kingdom of God on earth.
David typifies the Lord Jesus as a man in His suffering on earth before His resurrection; David’s suffering was for the conquering of the usurping enemies and the gaining of the good land, the ground for God’s building (Psa. 69:1-9).
David’s being established by God is seen in his repeated victories over the Philistines; thus, he is a type of the warrior Christ (2 Sam. 5:17-25).
Though Abigail knew this and realized this, she still married him, and she joined him in his warfare to bring in the kingdom of God.
David typifies the warring Christ in the midst of sufferings.
Because Jehovah is the Warrior fighting the battle for us and triumphing over all our enemies, He is our triumph, our victory (Exo. 17:8-16).
The real warrior is not any human being – it is the God-man Jesus, the Lord Himself; He is fighting for us.
Right now, the warring Christ is fighting for His move on the earth in the midst of the present situation.
He’s our Warrior and our victory, and He needs a match – He needs a wife as a counterpart.
He needs those who are one with Him and who join Him in His fight, even in the midst of His sufferings.
Psa. 110:5-6 reveals that in addition to being a King and a Priest, Christ is the Warrior.
Whether we are by disposition ready to fight, the Lord needs to gain us as His companion, His counterpart in this way; He must have the warrior-wife when He returns.
The Warrior Christ is the victorious Christ (John 12:31; Eph. 4:8; Heb. 2:14); we need to know Him in these two aspects, not in just a doctrinal way but in a personal way in our experience.
In His earthly ministry, the victorious Christ defeated the devil and destroyed his works (Matt. 4:1-11; 1 John 3:8).
In His crucifixion, the victorious Christ cast out the ruler of this world, destroyed the devil, caused the rulers and authorities to be stripped off, and nullified death (John 12:31; Matt. 27:51; Heb. 2:14; Col. 2:15; 2 Tim. 1:10).
On the cross, Christ destroyed the devil; there was a spiritual warfare going on around the cross.
The enemy sent his evil principalities and powers swarming around the Lord, and the Lord terminated them all on the cross.
Then, God manifested the victorious Christ and put to shame all these evil powers. On one hand, Christ is the warring Christ, and on the other hand, He’s the warring Christ in the midst of sufferings.
The one who was the source of death was destroyed by Christ on the cross; the ruler of the world was cast out and Christ defeated him on the cross.
While the Lord was on the cross suffering and dying, He was the warring Christ in the midst of sufferings, and He was both destroying the devil and creating in Himself the one new man.
This is beyond our capacity to understand, even a little, but this is the reality of what was happening.
As we come to the Lord’s table, we appreciate what He has done for us, and we praise Him as the victorious One!
He is the warring Christ in the midst of sufferings, and He is gaining us to be His counterpart! The resurrection of the victorious Christ declares that He is victorious over death (2:8).
In His ascension the victorious Christ “led captive those taken captive”; He released us from the usurping hand of Satan and brought us to the highest place in the universe (Eph. 2:6; 4:8).
Hallelujah, the warring Christ in the midst of sufferings is the victorious Christ, and He has taken us – who were Satan’s captives – and made us His captives, bringing us into resurrection and ascension, and seating us with Him in the heavenlies.
Hallelujah, we are now seated with Christ in the highest place in the universe, and we simply praise Him!
Hallelujah for the warring Christ in the midst of sufferings, the One who is victorious and triumphant! We praise You, Lord for fighting the battle for us and for triumphing over all our enemies! You are our victory! You are our triumph! Praise the Lord Jesus who is not only our King and our Priest but also the warring Christ in the midst of suffering who is victorious! Our warring Christ is the victorious Christ who defeated the devil and destroyed his works! Hallelujah, through crucifixion the victorious Christ cast out the ruler of this world, destroyed the devil, and caused the rulers and authorities to be stripped off! We are one with You, Lord, to be the warring church as Your counterpart!
In His coming Back, Christ will be the Fighting One and we will be His Bride
When Christ was on earth, He was the warring Christ in the midst of sufferings, the reality of David.
According to the book of Revelation, when Christ returns, He will still be the fighting One, and He will fight against the enemies of God.
In the day of His anger at His coming back, Christ will be the greatest Victor, overcoming all the nations, shattering the kinds and the head of the enemies, and executing judgment on all those who oppose Him (Psa. 110:1-2, 5-6).
When He comes, He will obliterate all the rebellion, the lawlessness, and the chaos on the earth. He will be the greatest Victor, overcoming all the nations.
It doesn’t matter what the present condition of that nation is right now, Christ will come as the victorious King and will shatter the kinds and the heads of the enemies, and He will execute judgment on all those who oppose Him.
This will come right after the rapture of the overcomers after the wedding feast has begun; then, the Lord will gradually come in a hidden way with His warrior-wife.
According to Rev. 19:11-14, in His coming back, Christ will be the fighting One; He will come as the fighting One before He can be the reigning King.
He will not fight alone against Antichrist and the armies of the nations – He will come with His bride as His army, and with her, He will fight against Antichrist and his armies.
After His wedding feast, Christ is revealed as the Word of God – He is the King of kings and Lord of lords – who returns to defeat and destroy Antichrist and the false prophet.
Then, after His wedding feast, Christ will come as a fighting General with His bride – who is composed of the overcoming believers as His army – to fight against Antichrist and the kings under him and their armies.
Under the instigation of Antichrist, man will dare to wage war directly against God – against the Lord of lords and the King of kings.
Antichrist together with the false prophet and the ten kings and their armies will make war against the Lamb; this will be the earth fighting against the heavens, man fighting against God.
If we look at how things are going today, the whole earth is slowly rising against God to fight against what He is and what He stands for.
But praise the Lord, Rev. 19:11-21 shows that the Bridegroom comes to fight against His enemies with the help of His bride.
After their honeymoon, the Bridegroom and the bride will come to clear up the universe: Antichrist and the false prophet will be cast into the lake of fire (v. 20) and Satan will be bound and cast into the abyss (Rev. 20:1-3). Hallelujah!
Rev. 19 corresponds with Daniel 2, where we see that a stone cut without hands struck the great human image at its feet and crushed them.
The aggregate of the human government will be smashed by Christ and the overcomers, the warring Christ and the warring church, and this will put an end to man’s rebellion against God.
When Christ comes as the smiting stone, He will not come alone; He will come with His bride! This bride is typified by Abigail, the wife of David, and it is composed of the overcoming ones!
Christ will marry His bride composed of those who have been fighting the battle against God’s enemy for years. The overcomers have already overcome the evil one, the devil (Rev. 12:11).
May the Lord enlighten us concerning these matters and inspire us to be those who cooperate with Him today to be produced as His overcomers who will return with Him to destroy His enemy and bring in His kingdom on the earth!
Hallelujah for our Christ who will come again as the fighting One! Amen, Lord, produce us as Your overcomers, those who overcome the enemy today by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony and by not loving our soul-life even unto death! We want to be those who return with our fighting Christ to defeat and destroy the enemy and bring in the kingdom of God on earth! Yes, Lord, grant us to be part of Your bride who returns with You as Your army to fight against Antichrist and his armies and bring in the kingdom of God! We enthrone You in our being and we are one with You today. Come, Lord Jesus, as the fighting General, the Warrior, with Your army to end human government and bring in the kingdom of God!
