In our daily Christian life we need to know a practical and simple way to receive and enjoy grace. When we are at work, at home, on the bus, driving the car, or doing this and that, what is the practical way to daily receive and enjoy grace?
The Bible shows us that grace is with our spirit (Gal. 6:18; Phil. 4:23; Philemon 1:25). Since grace is with our spirit, what we need to do is to turn to our spirit, exercise our spirit, and enthrone the Lord in the center of our being.
Christ today is not only in the heavens, sitting at the right hand of God and interceding for us before God as our High Priest; He is right now with our spirit as grace. Whenever we turn to our spirit and contact the Lord, we touch the throne of grace and grace as a river flows (Heb. 4:16). Come forward with boldness to the throne of grace, enthroning the Lord and giving Him the preeminence, and there will be grace flowing for your enjoyment and supply!
If we don’t enthrone the Lord, the flow of grace stops; but if we enthrone the Lord Jesus within us, giving Him the preeminence and honoring Him in everything, we will be richly and abundantly supplied with the grace of God (see Rev. 22:1).
Out from the throne of God and of the Lamb flows a river of living water, which is a flow of grace; whenever we consecrate ourselves to the Lord, give ourselves to love Him, and enthrone Him in our being, we will receive and enjoy grace in our daily living. There is no greater joy than beginning the day by consecrating ourselves to the Lord and telling Him,
Lord Jesus, I love You! I open to You right now: wash me and cleanse me with Your blood from anything of the past. Lord, I consecrate myself to You for Your purpose. I want to touch You in a fresh way that I may be living, young, new, and fresh with You. I just love You!
Enthroning the Lord so that we may Receive and Enjoy Grace
Our mind is the country of doubts and quarreling but our spirit is the country of grace. Heb. 4:16 encourages us to come forward with boldness to the throne of grace so that we may receive mercy and find grace for timely help. But where is the throne of grace? How can we come forward to receive grace and enjoy grace?
The grace of the Lord Jesus is with our spirit, and in order for us to receive and enjoy grace, we need to exercise our spirit and enthrone the Lord. The Lord is at the same time in the heavens at God’s right hand, walking among the churches and ministering to them as a High Priest, and with our spirit as grace.
Whenever we turn to our spirit and call on the name of the Lord, we will immediately sense that the throne of grace is in our spirit. We come forward to the throne of grace by exercising our spirit and enthroning the Lord. We need to give the Lord the headship in us, taking Him as our King and our Lord.
When the Lord is not on the throne in our being, there is no flow of grace; but when the Lord is honored as the Head, the Lord, and the King, there is a flow of grace from the throne to supply us and flow out from us to others also (see Rev. 22:1-2).
Christ as the Spirit with our spirit is the source of grace; if we enthrone Him, we will enjoy a river of grace flowing from the throne. But if we enthrone the Lord and give Him the preeminence, always checking with Him and taking Him as our Head in everything we do and say, we will drink “throne water”, the water flowing from the throne bringing us grace (Rev. 22:1; 2:4; Col. 1:18; 1 Pet. 5:5).
I really enjoyed footnote 1 on “the throne of grace” in the Recovery Version Bible,
Undoubtedly, the throne mentioned here is the throne of God, which is in heaven (Rev. 4:2). The throne of God is the throne of authority toward all the universe (Dan. 7:9; Rev. 5:1). But toward us, the believers, it becomes the throne of grace, signified by the propitiation place (the mercy-seat) within the Holy of Holies (Exo. 25:17, 21). This throne is the throne of both God and the Lamb (Rev. 22:1). How can we come to the throne of God and the Lamb, Christ, in heaven while we still live on earth? The secret is our spirit, referred to in v. 12. The very Christ who is sitting on the throne in heaven (Rom. 8:34) is also now in us (Rom. 8:10), that is, in our spirit (2 Tim. 4:22), where the habitation of God is (Eph. 2:22). At Bethel, the house of God, the habitation of God, which is the gate of heaven, Christ is the ladder that joins earth to heaven and brings heaven to earth (Gen. 28:12-17; John 1:51). Since today our spirit is the place of God’s habitation, it is now the gate of heaven, where Christ is the ladder that joins us, the people on earth, to heaven, and brings heaven to us. Hence, whenever we turn to our spirit, we enter through the gate of heaven and touch the throne of grace in heaven through Christ as the heavenly ladder.
Practice Turning to the Spirit and Staying in the Spirit by Having Set Times of Prayer
Many times we say, I don’t have time to read the Bible! Or, I don’t have time to pray – I am so busy! The enemy has cheated us and lied to us for so long that we may even think that we are busy and we have no time to read the Bible or pray.
But the truth is that we can cooperate with the Lord by setting fixed time for prayer or for reading the word of God. You know your daily schedule and you know that there are some slots of time which can be allocated to the Lord.
Maybe we can set aside 10 minutes for prayer in the morning and 10 minutes in the evening. These times should be for nothing else but to contact the Lord in prayer, for opening our being to Him and exercising our whole being to turn to our spirit.
Our natural being is so living and active in the things of this world but so weak in the things of God; we need to exercise to reject our natural mind, our natural emotions and feelings, and our weak or stubborn will – and simply exercise our spirit to contact the Lord.
“Exercise” – this word means that it takes time and practice. It doesn’t come naturally. We love the Lord, we want to enjoy Him as grace, and we need His daily supply, but unless we exercise our spirit at least in our set times of prayers with Him, it will be hard to have the flow of grace.
The Father is embodied in the Son and the Son is realized as the Spirit – which Spirit is now with our spirit as grace. When we give the Lord the ground within us to rule and reign, when we exercise our spirit to enthrone Him in us, we enter into the Holy of Holies – our mingled spirit – and we enjoy the grace of the Lord Jesus.
We need to practice turning to our spirit mingled with the divine Spirit, and stay in the spirit by exercising to reject ourselves and turn to the Lord. We can practice this in our set time of prayer with the Lord.
Then we will expand this practice in more aspects of our daily living until no matter what we do – we practice exercising our spirit to enjoy the grace flowing from the throne of God in the center of our being.
Lord, we enthrone You in our being. We honor You as our Head, our King, and our Lord. We come forward with boldness to the throne of grace that we may receive mercy and find grace for timely help. We respect Your position as the Head. We honor Your authority as our Lord. We have no right to initiate and do anything on our own. Lord, You are our Lord, our King, and our Head. Flow as a river of grace in all our being to supply us abundantly. We turn to our mingled spirit to contact You – flow in us! Grace as a river shall flow from the throne of grace in the holiest place of our mingled spirit!
