As believers in Christ, we have been raised together with Christ and seated with Him in the heavenlies (Col. 3:1). This means that we were not only crucified together with Christ (Gal. 2:20) and raised together with Christ in His resurrection to be regenerated by God with His divine life (1 Pet. 1:3), but we were also made one with Christ in His ascension, and all His attainments are to us as the church.
From eternity past to eternity future without beginning and without end, God has and is everything: He is Lord of all, the King of kings, the life, the Leader, the Captain, and everything. But when God became a man and thus put on humanity, in His humanity He was limited, constrained, and NOT the Lord of all, the highest One, the glorious and honorable One, or the Head of all things.
Therefore, Christ went through the process of incarnation (He put on humanity), human living (He lived a perfect human life expressing God), crucifixion (He terminated all the negative things in the universe), and resurrection (He became the life-giving Spirit, was begotten by God as the firstborn Son, and regenerated the believers as the many sons of God), and in ascension, He was inaugurated, exalted, and enthroned to execute God’s universal administration and to carry out God’s New Testament economy.
In His ascension Christ was inaugurated into His heavenly offices for His heavenly ministry; He was made Lord of all, the Christ, the Leader and Savior, the Ruler of the kings of the earth, the Head of the church, the Minister, and the High Priest.
Furthermore, in His ascension Christ was exalted by God to the highest place in the universe; He who has humbled to the uttermost – even to take the form of a man and be a slave, bearing the death of the cross, this One was exalted by God and was given by Him the name which is above every name, Lord Jesus Christ!
As believers in Christ we call on the name of the Lord both in a respectful and in a loving way, being filled with a deep appreciation for the reality and significance of this highest name in the universe!
In His Ascension Christ was Exalted by God to the Highest Peak and was Given the Highest Name
The Lord Jesus humbled Himself to the uttermost: He was found in fashion as a man and was obedient to God even unto death, and that the death of a cross (a most shameful death). He who had no sin nor did ever do anything to deserve to die was crucified publicly, and He humbled Himself before God.
Therefore, in His ascension God highly exalted Christ and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth (Phil. 2:8-10).
The Lord Jesus humbled Himself to the uttermost, but God exalted Him to the highest peak. In His ascension Christ is the God-exalted One, the One who has received a name that is above every name! Christ’s name is the highest name in the universe, and no one has a name that is higher than His.
God exalted a Man, Jesus Christ, the be the Lord of all, and He gave Him the highest name. We should call on His name openly, O Lord Jesus, and not be ashamed to confess His name (Acts 2:21; Rom. 10:13). All other names come and go; people rise and fall, but one name is still there throughout the ages – the Lord Jesus Christ. The highest name in the universe, the greatest name, is the name of Jesus – the name of the incarnated, crucified, resurrected, ascended, and exalted One!
When we call on His name, O Lord Jesus! we need to have a deep feeling and a proper realization of what He is. Christ is no longer the Nazarene, the despised One, but He is the exalted One! We should call on His name carefully, solemnly, with honor and with glory, as those privileged to call on the highest name in the universe! We are privileged to call on His name and enjoy Him, appreciate Him, be supplied with Him, and receive His riches!
God made the Lord Jesus, as a man, the Lord in His ascension; the Lord of all in the universe today is a Man, Jesus Christ! One day is coming when every tongue will openly confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Acts 2:36; Phil. 2:10-11); until then, we as believers in Christ openly confess that name, call on the name of the Lord, and are called by His name! We proclaim to the whole world,
O Lord, our Lord, how excellent
Thy name in all the earth!
Let every people, tribe, and tongue
Proclaim its boundless worth.
Out of the mouth of little ones
Thou hast established praise,
That Thou may still Thine enemy
And swiftly end his days. (Hymns #1097)
Amen! We love to call on the name of the Lord, sing about His name openly confess His name, and fill our whole family life, church life, and daily life with this wonderful, glorious, exalted name! Behind this name is the reality of the Person of Christ, who is the exalted One!
The world does not see it; they disagree with this and resist this, but we say, Jesus is Lord! We are not ashamed but we feel glorious to call on this highest name in the universe, Lord Jesus! When we call on the name of the Lord, the exalted One, we are saved, supplied, transported to the heavens, and feel transcended…this is NOT positive thinking but a real enjoyment of the reality behind this glorious name, Lord Jesus!
How we love the glorious name,
The name of Jesus!
’Tis the name above all names—
On earth or in heav’n.
As we breathe this precious name,
Darkness and death cannot remain;
For we call and get the Person of that name! (Hymns #1086)
May we see that God exalted this Christ to the highest peak and gave Him the name above every name, and may our calling on the name of the Lord be filled with much appreciation and honor and glory to this One!
May our family life, marriage life, and church life be filled with much more calling on this name! We should call His name in every place: it should be Jesus everywhere and in everything! When we call on the name of the Lord, the Father gets all the glory!
Oh Lord Jesus! Lord Jesus, we praise You, we honor You, we exalt You, and we appreciate You! You are the highest Person in the universe! You humbled Yourself to the uttermost, fulfilled God’s purpose, and God exalted You to the highest peak! Lord Jesus, Your name is above every name. Your name is glorious, wonderful, exalted, and great! We call on Your name carefully, solemnly, with honor and with glory. Lord, we are so privileged to call on this highest name in the universe! O Lord Jesus! O Lord Jesus!
In His Ascension Christ was Crowned with Glory and Honor and made the Head of All
Jesus was made a little inferior to the angels for a period of time; He who knew no limitation or suffering became a man, was subject to sickness, death, and corruption, and He passed through death as a Man; this One God has exalted to the highest, and He crowned Him with glory and honor (see Heb. 2:9).
On earth man crowned Him with a crown of thorns; He endured the shame and bore the cross; but God highly exalted Him in His ascension, giving Him glory and honor as a crown. Glory is the splendor related to Jesus’ person, and honor is the preciousness related to Jesus’ worth (1 Pet. 2:7).
As the One ascended by God, Christ was crowned with glory and honor; He is now in a state of glory and has a rank of honor. Praise Him as such a One! Furthermore, in His ascension Christ was inaugurated into the headship of the universe; He was made by God as Head over all things in the universe to the church (Col. 1:18; Eph. 1:22-23).
Wow, the Head of the whole universe is a Man, the exalted God-man Jesus Christ! We say Amen to this, we agree with this, and we give Him all the glory! The Jews persecuted Him and crucified Him, but God has made Him both Lord and Christ (Acts 2:36).
People thought He’s just an ordinary man that was “zealous for God”, but He was an extraordinary man: He was a God-man, and in His ascension He was exalted by God and made Lord of all, Head over all things!
Lo! a man is now in heaven
As the Lord of all enthroned;
This is Jesus Christ our Savior,
With God’s glory ever crowned! (Hymns #132)
Before His incarnation Christ in His divinity was the Lord of all; through the process of incarnation He put on humanity, in crucifixion He terminated all the negative things, in resurrection He was approved and justified by God in all His work and person, and in His ascension Christ as a Man was made Head over all things to the church!
Hallelujah, the Head of the whole universe is Christ, the Man! Christ is the Head of all!
Hallelujah, Jesus Christ the Man was crowned by God in His ascension with glory and honor! Praise You, Lord Jesus, for Your attainments in Your ascension! You were ascended by God to the highest place, given the highest name, and crowned with glory and honor! Praise the Lord, there is a Man now in heavens on the throne, and He is the Head over all things! Praise the exalted Man Jesus Christ, the Head of all in the universe!

In Christ’s ascension God inaugurated Him into the headship of the universe. Acts 2:36 says, “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made Him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you have crucified.” This verse indicates that in Christ’s ascension God completed the headship of Christ. In the heavens today there is a man, a man of Nazareth, a man by the name of Jesus. This man is not an ordinary man; He is an extraordinary man. He is God who became a man and died on the cross to accomplish God’s eternal purpose and destroy His enemy. He has two natures—the divine nature and the human nature. He is now in the heavens not only as God but also as man. In His ascension this man Jesus was made Head over all things to the church (Eph. 1:22). The Head of the whole universe today is Jesus.
