The Bible gives us a clear revelation of the all-inclusive, processed, compound Spirit as the aggregate, the totality, of all the aspects of the Spirit of God. In Genesis we have the Spirit of God with the element of divinity brooding over the surface of the waters for the producing and bringing forth of life for God’s purpose (see Gen. 1).
Throughout the Old Testament, we have the Spirit of Jehovah as God coming to man to relate to man, empower man, strengthen man to do God’s work, lead man, speak to man, and do things with God’s people.
Then, in the New Testament we have the Holy Spirit, the Spirit with the element of the holy divine nature first to set aside John the Baptist from his mother’s womb and then to mingle Himself with man in the conception of the Lord Jesus.
The Holy Spirit is mentioned in many places in the New Testament as the One who sanctifies man by setting us aside for God’s purpose and by saturating us with God’s holy nature in many ways such as renewing us, speaking to us, leading us, dwelling in us, mingling Himself with us, empowering us, and sealing us.
In the writings of John we see that “the Spirit was not yet” (John 7:39), which shows us that through Christ’s resurrection He became the Spirit as the consummation of the Triune God, and in this Spirit we have all the elements of God, man, incarnation, human living, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension; such a Spirit was not yet before Christ was glorified, that is, before He was resurrected.
The Lord promised His disciples that He will not leave them orphans but will send the Spirit of reality, which is Himself as the Spirit, to lead them, guide them, and bring them into the full enjoyment of the Triune God in Christ (John 14:17; 15:26).
Furthermore, in Acts, we see the Spirit of Jesus with the elements of Christ’s humanity, His human living, and His crucifixion, with abundant strength to go through sufferings (Acts 16:7).
In Romans, we see the Spirit of Christ, which has the element of Christ’s resurrection and ascension, with His transcendency (Rom. 8:9-11). All these titles of the Spirit indicate that the Spirit is not simple: He is a wonderful Spirit, a complicated Spirit, and a compound Spirit!
Today we want to see more aspects of the compound Spirit which today is with our spirit to be our bountiful supply for our full salvation.
The Spirit of Jesus Christ is the Compound, All-inclusive, Life-Giving Spirit
In Phil. 1:19 we have a unique title of the Spirit when Paul says that even him being in prison will turn out to salvation through the saints’ petition and the bountiful supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ.
What or who is this “Spirit of Jesus Christ”? The Spirit of Jesus Christ is the compound, all-inclusive, life-giving Spirit of the Triune God; He is the Spirit of God compounded and blended with incarnation, human living, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension to be the bountiful supply to the saints for their organic full salvation.
To experience the Lord’s humanity, we need the Spirit of Jesus; to experience the power of His resurrection, we need the Spirit of Christ.
The holy anointing ointment in Exodus 30:23-25, a compound of olive oil with four kinds of spices, was a full type of this compound Spirit – the Spirit of Jesus Christ.
Paul didn’t experience only the Spirit of Jesus with the element of His humanity and abundant strength in suffering, neither did he experience only the Spirit of Christ with the element of the Lord’s resurrection, but he experienced the bountiful supply of the compound, all-inclusive, life-giving Spirit of the Triune God, the Spirit of Jesus Christ. Wow!
Such a Spirit has a bountiful supply and even is the bountiful supply for us to experience and enjoy Christ in His human living, death, and resurrection. In all situations what we need is this compound Spirit; we don’t need to “look for the best solution” and “find the right answer” – we simply need to turn to the Lord and enjoy such a Spirit.
In the church life, when we encounter things, are offended, are oppressed or depressed, we should simply turn to our spirit and enjoy the bountiful supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, who is so real, present, and operative.
All the ingredients of the Spirit of Jesus Christ are for our participating, partaking, enjoyment, and apprehending in our Christian experience today!
Thank You Lord that even this situation will turn out to salvation through the saints’ petition and the bountiful supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ! Keep us turning to You again and again, no matter what situation we’re in and no matter what happens around us. Lord, what we need is Your bountiful supply with all the elements of Your humanity, human living, death, and resurrection to be applied to our being for our full salvation! Hallelujah, the Spirit of Jesus Christ is a bountiful supply to us for our experience, enjoyment, and partaking!
Enjoying the Spirit of Life and the Life-giving Spirit – Life, Life, Life!
In Rom. 8:2 Paul speaks of the Spirit of life saying that the law of the Spirit of life has freed us in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and of death. What is this “Spirit of life”? In 1 Cor. 15:45 we see that Christ as the last Adam became a life-giving Spirit, but here we have the Spirit of life.
The Spirit of life is the reality of life, for the Spirit Himself is life. The Spirit of life has all the riches of the divine life, and as the life-giving Spirit He imparts all these riches into us for our enjoyment, participation, and experience.
The life-giving Spirit is constantly moving, working, and living in us to impart life to our whole being: He imparts life to our spirit through regeneration, He imparts life to our soul through our renewing and transformation, and He imparts life even to our mortal body through our transfiguration.
Without the Spirit of life there’s no Christian life, no union with God, no mingling with God, no Christ making His home in our heart, no strengthening into our inner man, and no salvation of any kind. It is because of the Spirit that God’s salvation is possible!
The Lord said, The words which I have spoken to you are spirit and are life (John 6:63) – the way for us to receive life and enjoy the divine life is to have the Lord’s living words and thus receive the Spirit of life! In this Spirit we have life, life, life! When we touch this Spirit, we receive life!
Hallelujah, the law of the Spirit of life has freed us in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and of death! Thank You, Lord, for being the Spirit of life with the riches of the divine life to impart this life into our being. Thank You for being the life-giving Spirit who is constantly moving, working, and living in us to impart life into our whole being. Lord, we open to You. We want to pray Your word back to You and say, Lord, infuse us with more life through the Spirit! Fill our spirit, soul, and body with Your life!
The Lord Spirit: the Lord is the Spirit and the Spirit is the Lord!
When we behold the Lord with an unveiled face, we are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord Spirit (2 Cor. 3:18). Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (v. 17).
The Spirit is called, the Lord Spirit; in this aspect of the Spirit the element of lordship is included. In the Lord Spirit we have the elements of Christ’s ascension and His lordship. After He was resurrected, the Lord Jesus became the Lord of all in His humanity, and He became the Spirit; today the Lord is the Spirit, and the Spirit is the Lord Christ.
Hallelujah, our dear pneumatic Christ, the Spirit, is the Lord Himself, and the Lord is the Spirit! When we call on the name of the Lord and say, Lord Jesus! – we enthrone Him in our life, we accept His lordship, and we are under His authority; this brings us into the enjoyment of the riches of Christ, and gives us His authority and lordship as we are in Christ!
This is why we should not grieve the Holy Spirit, which is equal to rebelling against the headship of Christ.
Lord, we want to behold You face to face without any veil or hindrance so that we may be transformed into Your glorious image from glory to glory even as from the Lord Spirit. Hallelujah, now the Lord is the Spirit, and the Spirit is with our spirit: in our mingled spirit we can enjoy the Lord Spirit and thus enjoy freedom from sin, the world, the self, and the flesh!
The Spirit of Grace has the Element of the Enjoyment of the Triune God
In Heb. 10:29 we have “the Spirit of grace”. God is the God of all grace (1 Pet. 5:10), Christ came full of grace and reality (John 1:17), and the Spirit is the Spirit of grace (Heb. 10:29) – our Triune God is a God of grace, and He wants to be enjoyed by us!
God as the source of grace, Christ as the embodiment of grace, and the Spirit as the transmission of grace is for our enjoyment and experience. For the Spirit to be the Spirit of grace means that the Triune God in the Son as the Spirit becomes our enjoyment.
How can we enjoy God? He is embodied in Christ. How can we enjoy Christ? He is now the Spirit. We can enjoy God in Christ as the Spirit through simply exercising our spirit, and grace is with our spirit (2 Tim. 4:22).
To partake of the Spirit of grace is to partake of the Spirit as grace (see Gal. 6:18; Rom. 8:16). The element the Spirit is grace itself; there’s no grace other than the Spirit, and there’s no reality apart from the Spirit.
The One who is full of grace and reality is the Spirit of grace and the Spirit of reality for us to enjoy God and enter into the reality of all that God in Christ is. Wow, Hallelujah!
Thank You Lord for being the Spirit of grace with our spirit! Our God is grace, Christ is grace, and God in Christ as the Spirit is the Spirit of grace so that we may enjoy God as grace today. Hallelujah, grace is with our spirit! Lord, we want to enjoy You and partake of You as the most enjoyable One in the Spirit. Bring us into the full enjoyment of the Triune God!
