In the Compound Spirit we have the Mingling of God and Man and the Death of Christ

But you are not in the flesh, but in the spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Yet if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not of Him. Rom. 8:9

In the compound Spirit, there’s the mingling of God and man, of divinity and humanity, and also the death of Christ and His sufferings, all of which can be applied to us in our spirit as we contact the Lord today.

The Spirit is very crucial for us in our Christian life.

So many Christians today love the Lord, read His word, regularly attend the meetings, and pray, but they do not know that Christ today is the life-giving Spirit who has come in their spirit to impart God’s life into them.

Christianity has missed or misunderstood the matter of the Spirit, so there’s no way for so many genuine Christians to grow in life, be built up together, and cooperate with the Lord’s organic salvation simply because they don’t know the Spirit.

If we want to know God, we need to come to Christ, for Christ embodies God and He makes Him known to us.

To know Christ, we need to come to the Spirit, for the Lord today is the Spirit (2 Cor. 3:17).

The Lord Jesus went through a process in order to become the life-giving Spirit, the compound Spirit.

As the compound Spirit, He is the Spirit of Jesus Christ with a bountiful supply for us to live the Christian life, express God, and be brought all the way to maturity to be just like Christ. Praise the Lord!

In all things related to our Christian life, we need to pay attention to the Spirit, for the Christian life is altogether a matter of the Spirit and in the Spirit.

How can we enjoy God’s organic salvation so that we may be regenerated, renewed, transformed, and conformed to the image of Christ? It is only by the Spirit.

How can we be dealt with by the Lord, broken in our outer man so that the inner man may be released, and built up together with the saints?

The key is the Spirit. Everything that God is, everything that Christ is and has accomplished, and everything of God’s economy is in the Spirit.

The Spirit is the reality of the Triune God, and the Spirit today is compounded with all God is, all God has, and all God has done. Praise the Lord!

Even more, this Spirit has been intensified sevenfold, for there’s a prevailing degradation in the church today, and the Lord as the Spirit was intensified seven times to counteract it!

May we know the Lord as the Spirit and never rely only on our understanding or mental apprehension of God’s word!

May we exercise our spirit to have the Spirit applied to us, painted on us, and anointing us so that we may be led by the Spirit, live the Christian life, and accomplish God’s purpose.

In the Compound Spirit, we have the Mingling of God and Man

But this He said concerning the Spirit, whom those who believed into Him were about to receive; for [the] Spirit was not yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified. John 7:39The holy anointing oil in Exo. 30:23-25 is a type of the Spirit, in particular, the compound Spirit.

In this compound, we see five elements or ingredients, divided into two groups: four spices and one base of olive oil.

Number four signifies the creatures (Ezek. 1:5), of which man is the head (Gen. 1:26). Number one signifies the unique God (Deut. 4:35; 1 Tim. 2:5).

The four spices in the compound ointment signify the humanity of Christ in God’s creation, and the one hin of olive oil signifies the unique God with His divinity.

This means that in the compound Spirit, we have the mingling of God and man. In the compound Spirit, we have not only God but also man.

In particular, we have the humanity of the Lord Jesus in God’s creation.

Humanity is included in the compound Spirit. Hallelujah!

This humanity is not the sinful, corrupted humanity of fallen human beings but the uplifted, resurrected humanity of Christ.

When we exercise our spirit and contact the Lord, the humanity of Jesus is being applied to us, and we are richly nourished by the divinity of Christ.

Some Christians may be bothered if we call the Lord a creature, as part of the creation, since they think that Jesus is God; however, He is God who became a man and lived a perfect human life.

Furthermore, He died on the cross and, in His resurrection, He brought His humanity – which He put on at the time of incarnation – into His divinity to divinize it and uplift it!

Now in the compound Spirit, which is Christ as the Spirit after His resurrection, we have both God and man blended together, mingled together, and available for us to enjoy and participate in.

If you ask most Christians today about the Spirit, they will say that it is the Spirit of God or the Holy Spirit, believing that only God and the divine nature is in the Spirit.

That the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the spirit. Rom. 8:4 Knowing this, that our old man has been crucified with [Him] in order that the body of sin might be annulled, that we should no longer serve sin as slaves. Rom. 6:6But the Bible reveals that the Spirit we have today, the compound Spirit whom Christ became after His resurrection, is both God and man, for both divinity and humanity are included in it!

There’s the element of God, and we are grateful for it, for this element vivifies us, energizes us, regenerates us, and transforms us.

However, in the compound Spirit, there’s also the element of man, the element of humanity, the uplifted humanity of Jesus.

Wow, in the Spirit there is man and there is God! If it is only God, He cannot be applied to us.

But the Spirit contains the element of man, the element of humanity, so that we may enjoy and partake of all that He is!

Just as the four spices (flowing myrrh, cinnamon, calamus, and cassia) were blended and compounded together with the hin of olive oil, so the humanity, death, and resurrection of Christ were blended and compounded with the divinity of Christ in the compound Spirit! Praise the Lord!

Now the Spirit who comes into us to regenerate us and supply us is a mingled Spirit, a blended Spirit, a compounded Spirit, and in this Spirit we have both God and man!

We all can testify that, when we exercise our spirit to contact the Lord and enjoy Him, the humanity of Jesus is applied to us, and the divinity of Christ is supplying us to live the Christian life.

We ourselves become mingled persons, for we are mingled with God as we enjoy and partake of the compound Spirit in our experience.

Lord Jesus, thank You for going through the process of incarnation, human living, crucifixion, death, and resurrection to become a compound Spirit for us to receive and enjoy today! Hallelujah, our God did not remain in the heavens but was incarnated, putting on humanity with the human nature, and He uplifted, divinized, and resurrected this humanity in His resurrection! Wow, Lord, we praise You for being compounded with Your humanity, Your divinity, Your death, and Your resurrection to become the compound Spirit, the Spirit, for us to enjoy and partake of today! We exercise our spirit today to contact You and enjoy You. We want to enjoy and experience the compound Spirit in our daily life so that we may be infused with the humanity of Jesus and be supplied with the divinity of Christ! Amen, Lord, mingle Yourself with us more today. Make us mingled persons, those who are mingled with the Triune God to live the Christian life by enjoying and experiencing the compound Spirit!

The Spirit of God became the Spirit of Christ through Christ’s Sufferings – in the Compound Spirit, we have the Sufferings and Death of Christ!

Since the number four signifies the creatures (Ezek. 1:5), of which man is the head (Gen. 1:26), and the number one signifies the unique God (Deut. 4:35; 1 Tim. 2:5), the four spices signify the humanity of Christ in Gods creation, and the one hin of olive oil signifies the unique God with His divinity; thus, the blending of olive oil with the four spices signifies the compounding, the mingling, of God and man, of divinity and humanity, in the compound Spirit — Lev. 2:4 and footnote 3. 2024 Memorial Day Conference, outline 3The five elements that were compounded together in the holy anointing oil to anoint all the utensils and persons related to the tabernacle all had to go through a process.

The olives had to be put in the press so that olive oil would come out.

Myrrh had to be extracted from a particular tree, when an incision was made and myrrh flowed out and was collected.

Cinnamon was scraped or made from the bark of the tree, the inner part.

Cassia comes from the outer part of the bark of the tree, which had to be removed by cutting.

Cinnamon was used to stimulate the heart, and cassia was used to repel insects and snakes.

All the spices and olive oil were prepared through cutting and suffering.

This indicates that the Spirit of God could become the Spirit of Christ as the compound ointment only through Christ’s sufferings.

In order for the compound Spirit to be produced, sufferings were involved.

The olive oil and the four spices were all prepared through a process of either pressing or cutting, signifying that the Spirit of God became the Spirit of Christ (Rom. 8:9) through Christ’s sufferings (Matt. 26:36). Amen!

The Spirit that we enjoy and partake of today in order to live the Christian life is no longer just the Spirit of God in Genesis or the Spirit of Jehovah in the Old Testament.

This Spirit is not even just the Holy Spirit revealed in the incarnation of Christ and in the birth of John the Baptist.

What we have today is the compound Spirit, a compounded Spirit which is made of many ingredients that were mingled, blended, and compounded together.

In the compound Spirit, we see the humanity of Jesus, the divinity of Christ, the death of Christ with its sweetness and effectiveness, the resurrection of Christ with its efficacy and power, and the Spirit of God as the base. Praise the Lord!

For this compound Spirit to be produced or compounded, much suffering was needed.

The Lord Jesus suffered death throughout His life, not just during the time He was on the cross.

As soon as He was born, He began to suffer; this suffering is signified by myrrh.

When He was born, the magi brought Him as an appreciation some gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Then, at the time of His death, Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea showed their appreciation of the Lord by putting myrrh upon His body when they buried Him.

Both at the beginning and at the end of His life on earth, there was myrrh.

The Lord lived a crucified life, a life of suffering. He lived a life of daily denying Himself, taking His cross, and obeying the Father’s will.

Since Christ therefore has suffered in the flesh, you also arm yourselves with the same mind (because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin). 1 Pet. 4:1 I now rejoice in my sufferings on your behalf and fill up on my part that which is lacking of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for His Body, which is the church. Col. 1:24Now in the compound Spirit, there are the sufferings of Christ and the power to endure those sufferings.

We need to learn to apply this aspect of the compound Spirit to our experience today.

The death of Christ today is in the Spirit, the compound Spirit, and this Spirit is with our spirit (1 Pet. 4:1; 2 Cor. 4:17; 2 Tim. 3:12; Col. 1:24; Phil. 3:10; 2 Tim. 4:22)!

The extract of the Lord’s death is an element in the Spirit of Christ.

The Spirit of God passed through many sufferings to become compounded as the Spirit of Christ, the compound Spirit.

If we want to experience the death of Christ, we simply need the Spirit.

The fact that our old man has been crucified with Christ (Rom. 6:6) can be experienced and enjoyed by us, even applied to us in our experience, only in the Spirit revealed in Rom. 8.

We are joined to the Lord as one spirit, and the Spirit is in our spirit, mingling Himself with us and always applying all that He is to our being.

When we are in our spirit, we spontaneously put to death the practices of the body (Rom. 8:4).

When we’re in our spirit, the Spirit applies the death of Christ to our entire being.

Lord Jesus, we want to enjoy and experience You as the Spirit who was compounded with so many wonderful elements! Hallelujah, the death of Christ and His sufferings, including the power to bear the sufferings, are in the compound Spirit! Amen, Lord, we come to You today as we are, and we just exercise our spirit. Thank You for being joined to us as one spirit. Hallelujah, the Spirit of Christ is in us, and this Spirit applies to us what Christ is for our experience! Amen, Lord, may we be those who experience and enjoy the death of Christ in the Spirit of Christ. Keep us joined to You, receiving Your divine dispensing and allowing You to apply the death of Christ to our being in our daily life. We don’t want to miss the Spirit. We don’t want to live the Christian life apart from the Spirit! Hallelujah, the compound Spirit is in our spirit, intimately joined to us in spirit, and in this Spirit, we have everything we need!

In the Bible the number four signifies God’s creation…In His incarnation the Lord Jesus was both God and man. The four spices signify the humanity of the Lord Jesus in God’s creation. Of course, some Christians do not like to hear the word creation used in the case of the Lord Jesus. This is due to the heretical teaching of Arius who taught that Christ was merely a created being and that He was not the eternal God. The oil signifies divinity in the Godhead…The number one signifies God, the unique Creator. In this compound ointment we have the numbers four and one, with the number four blended with the number one. This signifies humanity blended, mingled, with divinity. Concerning the compound ointment, we cannot avoid using the word mingled. The words compounded and blended actually mean “mingled.” The four spices were mingled with the oil.

This holy anointing oil, a compound ointment of olive oil and four spices (vv. 23-24), is a full type of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, the compound, all-inclusive, life-giving Spirit of the processed Triune God, whom Christ became through His death and resurrection (1 Cor. 15:45; cf. note 1 on John 7:39 and note 4 on Phil. 1:19).

The significances of the ingredients of this compound anointing oil are as follows:

  1. flowing myrrh, a spice used in burial (John 19:39), signifies the precious death of Christ (Rom. 6:3);
  2. fragrant cinnamon signifies the sweetness and effectiveness of Christ’s death (Rom. 8:13);
  3. fragrant calamus, from a reed that grew upward in a marsh or muddy place, signifies the precious resurrection of Christ (Eph. 2:6; Col. 3:1; 1 Pet. 1:3);
  4. cassia, used in ancient times to repel insects and snakes, signifies the power of Christ’s resurrection (Phil. 3:10);
  5. the olive oil as the base of the compound ointment signifies the Spirit of God as the base of the compound Spirit (Gen. 1:2).

Since the number four signifies the creatures (Ezek. 1:5), of which man is the head (Gen. 1:26), and the number one signifies the unique God (Deut. 4:35; 1 Tim. 2:5), the four spices signify the humanity of Christ in God’s creation, and the one hin of olive oil signifies the unique God with His divinity. Thus, the blending of olive oil with the four spices signifies the compounding, the mingling, of God and man, of divinity and humanity, in the compound Spirit (cf. Lev. 2:4 and note Lev. 2:43).

The olive oil and the four spices were all prepared through a process of either pressing or cutting, signifying that the Spirit of God became the Spirit of Christ (Rom. 8:9 and note Rom. 8:94a) through Christ’s sufferings (Matt. 26:36 and note 1 on Matt. 26:36).

Furthermore, the measure of the four spices, being three complete units of five hundred shekels each, the middle five hundred shekels being split into two parts, signifies the Triune God in resurrection, the second, the Son, being “split” by His death on the cross.

Since in the Bible five is the number for responsibility (Matt. 25:2 and note Matt. 25:21), the five elements in the compound ointment and the three units of five hundred shekels of the four spices signify the Triune God in resurrection as the power, the capability, for bearing responsibility.

Since the numbers three and five are related to God’s building (see note 2 on Gen. 6:15), these numbers in the compound ointment signify that in the compound Spirit there is the element for God’s building. Based on the above significances, the compounding of the four spices with the olive oil to make an anointing oil signifies the mingling of the above-mentioned elements with the Spirit of God through the process of Christ’s incarnation, human living, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension to produce the compound Spirit for the building of God’s eternal dwelling place.
