In Psalm 110 we see Christ as the King (having the sceptre and ruling over the whole earth), the Priest (according to the order of Melchizedek), the Warrior (executing judgement upon the nations), and the Drinker (drinking from the brook by the way). In the last few verses of this psalm we see that Christ is the Warrior fighting and gaining the victory – Christ is the Victor in God’s economy, He is the warrior to be the greatest Victor!
Also, as He fights the battle He is thirsty so He drinks of the brook by the way – He drinks from the overcomers, the saints who willingly offer themselves to Him to be His watering and His refreshment.
Christ is the greatest Victor
In Psa. 110:6 we see that Christ is the Lord, the Master, the One at God’s right hand, shattering the kings in the day of His anger at His coming back – when He returns to the earth the second time, Christ will execute judgement among the nations (Psa. 2:9, 12; Dan. 2:44; Rev. 2:26-27).
No one can stand against Him – Christ will be the greatest Victor, shattering the kings and the heads of the enemies, executing judgement upon all those who oppose Him, and overcoming over all the nations. Hallelujah, Christ is Victor! He will destroy His enemies! He will overcome!
Today it may seem that the whole earth successfully opposes Christ and even defies God. But Christ as the greatest Victor will return and He will crush the human government, He will destroy the kings, and He will overcome all the nations.
When He returns, He will not fight alone – Christ will come with His bride and together we will overcome the Antichrist and his armies! This is why today we want to be produced as the overcomers, the components of His Bride, to be His bridal army when He returns to take over the earth. Lord, make us Your overcomers in this age to return together with You to defeat Your enemies!
He will drink from the brook by the way
Psa. 110:7 says, “He will drink from the brook by the way; / Therefore He will lift up His head“. As Christ is fighting the battle, He is thirsty, so He drinks of the brook by the way. What is this “brook by the way”? It is the overcomers!
On the one hand, the overcomers are the dew of the morning to water Christ by offering themselves willingly to Him in the splendor of their consecration, and on the other hand, the overcomers are a brook to water and refresh Christ in the day of His warfare.
Today in His heavenly ministry Christ takes the lead to fight and defeat His enemies, and He needs the overcomers to refresh Him and water Him in their consecration.
We want to be those who willingly offer ourselves to Him to be like a brook to quench Christ’s thirst as He fights the battle.
Christ drinks and He lifts up His head – this means that He is victorious! To lower your head or put your head down shows a sign of defeat, but to lift up your head shows that you are victorious. Christ fights, He is thirsty, He drinks of the brook by the way, and He defeats the enemies!
We can become a living fountain with fresh water for Christ to enjoy and have His thirst quenched by our willing consecration to Him! Lord, make us Your overcoming ones who refresh You and water You in the day of Your warfare!
Christ is the Victor and the Drinker
I was really impressed with this matter – to the enemy Christ is the Victor (destroying the enemies and executing God’s judgement upon them) but to us, Christ is the Drinker (being watered by our consecration as the dew and drinking from the brook by the way). We first drink of Christ as the living water, and we are refreshed, watered, nourished, supplied, and re-constituted. As we drink of Christ as the life-giving Spirit, we realize that He has a need!
We respond by offering ourselves to Him willingly – this becomes a brook to Him, something of which He can drink and be refreshed. We drink of Him and He drinks of us – a mutual refreshing and satisfaction for the fulfilment of God’s economy!
Lord, keep us drinking You day by day as the life-giving Spirit. Open our eyes, Lord, to see You in Your heavenly ministry fighting to defeat and destroy Your enemy. O, Lord, we want to be those who offer themselves willingly to You in the day of Your warfare to quench Your thirst as the brook by the way. Thank You for being the Drinker to us! You are the Drinker, and You are the Victor! We praise You as the Victorious One!
