As believers in Christ we need to set our mind on the things above, which include the ascended Christ and everything related to Him; in ascension Christ has been made the Head over all things to the church, and we can enjoy the divine transmission of all He is to us.
According to the New Testament, the things which are above include Christ’s ascension, His enthronement, and His being made the Head, the Lord, and the Christ.
When we set our mind on the things above, prayerfully considering and enjoying all that Christ is doing right now in the heavenlies, we will have a clear realization of God’s sovereignty, His administration, Him being on the throne, and Him being the ruler of the kings of the earth.
Our response to such things as an election (recently there was the USA president election, and these days there’s the elections in the UK) is that we enthrone the Lord, we agree with the decision of the heavens, and we deny our preferences, feelings, and opinions.
God has made Jesus in His ascension both Lord and Christ; now a Man, Jesus Christ, is the Lord of all to possess all and rule over all, and He is the Christ, God’s anointed and appointed One to carry out God’s commission.
Christ has been enthroned by God to be the Lord over all; He sits at the right hand of God, at the highest point in the universe, and He rules over all things. He rules not only over countries and world situation but also over our being and all the things related to us.
Sometimes He may take some decisions that we may not agree with, or He may lead us to a place we may not prefer to be in; we need to enthrone the Lord in our being, acknowledge His Lordship, and let Him take care of all things.
Furthermore, Christ is the One anointed by God and appointed by Him to carry out God’s commission and to fulfill His economy. We as the members of His Body are attached to the Head, intimately related to Him as the One who is on the throne and who is in our spirit.
This One, Christ in ascension, has been made Head over all things to the church, and by means of the divine transmission we can receive, enjoy, and be supplied with everything that Christ is and has attained.
Christ was made Head over All things to the Church: Enjoy the Divine Transmission!
In ascensions Christ has been made by God the Head over all things to the church (Eph. 1:22). This expression “to the church” implies a kind of transmission; this transmission connects Christ in the heavens with us, the believers on the earth, just as an electrical current connects the power plant with electrical appliances in a building.
We as the Body of Christ on earth are connected with the Head in the heavens by means of the divine transmission, and all that Christ is, has attained, has accomplished, and has obtained, is constantly being transmitted to us today.
Christ was raised from the dead, seated on the throne in transcendency, had all things subjected under His feet, and was given to be Head over all things; all these things are now being transmitted into us by means of the divine transmission.
As long as there’s a transmission coming from the heavens, there will be the divine flow in the churches.
We need to check with ourselves: how much do we serve in the church life according to the divine transmission? When we get together to fellowship concerning things and situations, how much are we directed by the transmission?
There is an actual flowing from the ascended Christ into our spirit to supply us and direct us. And whatever Christ – the Head – has attained and obtained, is being constantly transmitted to the church, His Body.
In this transmission the church shares in all of Christ’s attainments such as, the resurrection from the dead, His being seated in His transcendency, the subjection of all things under His feet, and the headship over all things (see Eph. 1:19-23).
Praise the Lord, the resurrection power is being constantly transmitted to the church! We can daily enjoy the resurrection life breaking through any kind of death in our being and in our situation, and we can pray for the supply of the resurrection life to be transmitted and dispensed into the members of the Body.
We should not sit passively and let death do whatever it wills; we need to be one with the Head, Christ, to release the resurrection life to operate in the Body, in the members of the Body, in their particular situation.
We need to learn to exercise our spirit and live one spirit with the Lord so that we may enjoy the divine transmission coming from the Head, Christ, to all the members of the Body.
Our Christ is the Head over all things TO the church – He is to us, transmitting everything He is and all He accomplished and attained into our being; may we enjoy the divine transmission!
Lord Jesus, we praise You as our exalted Head, the One who was made by God in ascension to be Head over all things to the church! Praise our ascended and exalted Head who is constantly transmitting all He is and has accomplished into our being! Lord, we open to You and we exercise our spirit to be one spirit with You so that we may enjoy the divine transmission. Grant us all to enjoy the divine transmission every day to share in Your resurrection, Your ascension, Your subjection of all things, and Your headship over all things!
Caring for the Ascended Christ as the Crowned One, the Forerunner, High Priest, and Minister
When we lift our eyes from our own situation and condition and read in the New Testament the things concerning Christ in His ascension, our experience of Christ and appreciation of Him is greatly uplifted.
Our Lord Jesus has been crowned with glory and honour (Heb. 2:9); He is the Pioneer, who has cut the way into glory within the veil, and the Forerunner (Heb. 6:19-20). Christ is the High Priest and the Minister of the true tabernacle (Heb. 8:2); and, as the enthroned One, He is the center of God’s administration according to God’s eternal economy (Rev. 5:6).
Man crowned Jesus with thorns, but God crowned Him with glory and honor in His ascension. He is the Lord of all; He possesses the whole earth.
He is the Lamb with seven eyes, with the seven Spirits of God, carrying out God’s administration through the local churches. The churches are God’s embassies, and the world situation is not under the control of some earthly heads of state or powerful leaders but under the churches through which God is executing His administration.
Our administrative center – our headquarters – is in the heaven, and we exercise to be one spirit with the Lord to cooperate with Him in His heavenly ministry by setting our mind on the things above. Hallelujah for our ascended Christ!
He is the minister of the true tabernacle; He is in the Holy of Holies, ministering there because He knows we need a heavenly supply imparted to us through His divine transmission so that we may live a heavenly life on earth.
He knows our need, and He ministers Himself into us moment by moment. We can open to Him concerning anything that matters to us; we can cast upon Him all our anxieties, for it matters to Him concerning us.
He is the Great Shepherd of the sheep, and He’s the Shepherd of our soul. It is amazing to realize that, while the ascended Christ is the Lord of all to manage the whole universe and arrange the world situation, He is also touched with the feeling of our weaknesses and He supplies us.
When we see the things that the Lord is doing in the heavens right now in His heavenly ministry, we will be revolutionized in our daily life. When we see this Christ, the glorified and enthroned Jesus who is both the Lord of all and the Shepherd and Minister, we will set our mind on the things above, seek them, and care for Christ, the wonderful One.
Instead of caring for our own virtues we should care for the Lord Jesus as the crowned One, the Head, the Forerunner, the High Priest, and the Minister. Such things are the things which are above (Col. 3:2) and we should set our mind on them.
To seek the things which are above is actually to respond to and reflect Christ’s activities in His heavenly ministry (see Heb. 2:17; 4:14; 7:26; 8:1-2; Rev. 5:6; Col. 3:1-2). He is looking for a people who would just cooperate with Him, a people who would allow Him to do whatever He wants to do with no limitations.
One such person was Philip who was a deacon in Jerusalem serving tables, and who was manifested as an evangelist; he preached the gospel in Samaria, and then he was responsive to the Spirit who asked him to run after the man in the chariot to preach the gospel to him.
We need to be those who are fully responsive to the Lord in His heavenly ministry by prayer, by following the leading of the Spirit, by caring and shepherding others as we enjoy the shepherding of our great Shepherd, and by running the heavenly race.
Lord Jesus, we want to seek the things above by focusing on the heavenly Christ who has been ascended, crowned with glory and honor, and who is the Pioneer who cut the way into glory. We set our mind and our whole being on the ascended Christ as our High Priest and the Minister of the true tabernacle, constantly ministering Himself into us by means of the divine transmission. Lord, You are the enthroned One, the center of God’s administration according to God’s eternal economy. We want to seek the things which are above so that we may respond to and reflect Christ’s activities in His heavenly ministry!

- Hymns on this topic:
# Anointed King, with glory crowned, / Rightful Heir and Lord of all! / Once rejected, scorned, disowned, / E’en by those Thou cam’st to call: / Thee we honor, Thee adore— / Glorious now and evermore. (Hymns #144)
# Now in the church, in God’s transmission, / All that He is, to His destination, / Here constantly receive. / He is dispensed to us who believe. / The Triune God is now transmitting / Himself, this power, us energizing, / In us He is installed; / This dynamo within, the Triune God! (Song on God’s transmission)
# Power that made Him o’er all things the Head / Is now to the church, now to the church! / Power, such pow’r, will be exhibited / O’er all through His Body, the church! / There is pow’r, pow’r, overruling pow’r, / To the church, to the church! / There is pow’r, pow’r, overruling pow’r, / Given to His Body, the church! (Hymns #1175)
Instead of caring for our own virtues, we should care for the Lord Jesus as the crowned One, the Head, Forerunner, High Priest, and Minister. We should care for the throne in heaven from which Christ, the Lamb with seven eyes, is executing God’s administration through the local churches.
Christ is not idle. He is interceding, ministering, and executing God’s administration. We on earth should respond to Christ’s activities in heaven.
Between Christ in heaven and us on earth there is a divine transmission, a heavenly current. If we are receiving this transmission, we shall respond to Christ’s work in heaven….We should continually respond to Christ’s interceding, ministering, and executing of God’s administration.
To seek the things above means that we correspond to Christ’s heavenly ministry. (Life-study of Colossians, pp. 549-550, by Witness Lee)
