For us to seek the things which are above and set our mind on them is to join ourselves to the Lord in His heavenly ministry, His divine enterprise; this is for us to live Christ and to have a living one with Christ’s living.
Too much have we lived in the things on earth; too much have we focused on the things we can see and feel, and too much have we lived not one with the Lord.
As believers in Christ, we need to seek the things which are above and set our mind on them. This is not a passive matter; we don’t drift into the things above neither do we by default set our mind on them; this is a very pro-active matter.
In terms of our position, we need to exercise faith to believe the facts in the word of God, and we need to realize that in God’s eyes we are in Christ, in the heavenlies, in God.
In terms of our experience of the heavenly things, of the life that is in heaven, we need to be proactive.
The Lord Jesus told us to pray, seek, and knock; this shows that we need to exercise our strength to pray, be specific to seek, and be deliberate to knock. Too much have we prayed common prayers and have not obtained or gained anything.
We need to pray to contact the Lord and absorb Him, seek Him in a specific way, seeking first the kingdom of God, and we need to knock by seeking Him extremely earnestly.
This is what it means to set our mind on the things above – we don’t “drift into heavenly bliss” but we exercise ourselves to seek the things which are above, where Christ is!
This means that we need to increase the exercise of our being, our spirit, our heart, and our strength; we need to exercise again and again to love the Lord not in a passive way but be pro-active to tell Him,
Lord Jesus, I love You! I turn to my spirit right now. Lord, I exercise my whole being to contact You and to set my mind on the things which are above! Amen, Lord, I seek what is above! I am seeking these things above where You are, sitting at the right hand of God! Lord, I am no indifferent or careless; I am not apathetic – I want the things above, I seek them, and I want to gain these things! Amen, Lord, recover me from anything that is seen to the things unseen, from anything that is on earth to the things which are above! I want to be joined to You in Your heavenly ministry and in Your divine enterprise!
Having a Living one with Christ’s Living by Seeking the Things Above, where Christ Intercedes for us
What are the things above spoken of in Col. 3:1-4? These are the things related to Christ’s heavenly ministry; in His heavenly ministry, Christ today is living as the High Priest to intercede for the churches, He is the Minister of the heavenly places, and He administrates the entire universe for God’s economy.
In particular, according to Heb. 8:1 and 4, 4:14, 7:25, and 4:16, Christ is the heavenly High priest who always lives to intercede, and He is able to save us to the uttermost by His intercession.
The Christ who is our life and who is at the right hand of God has many roles in the heavenlies; He is the Lord, the Christ, the Forerunner, the Head, the Lamb, and the King, and He is in particular the High Priest and the Heavenly Minister.
We need to see Him in this way and we need to know Him in what He is and what He does; by setting our mind on the things above, we join with Him in His unfinished heavenly enterprise, His heart’s desire, His economy, His work, and His will that is still to be accomplished.
And when we do this, we are really living Christ, we have a living one with Christ’s living, and we are one with Him in His heart’s desire.
Our Christ is in the heavens interceding for the churches; He doesn’t just sit at the right hand of God and rest, but He always lives to intercede – He intercedes for me and you.
When we are joined to Him, when we are under His divine transmission from the throne into our spirit, we respond to His intercession, and we join with Him in His prayer.
Many times in the prayer meeting or in our personal prayer time with the Lord we have a feeling to pray for a particular person, a particular matter, or a particular situation; this is the Lord’s intercession being echoed in our prayer.
The heavenly Christ interceding all the time transmits His burden into us to pray and intercede with Him as we set our mind on the things which are above.
For us to seek the things which are above and to set our mind on them is for us to join ourselves to the Lord in His ministry in the heaven.
Our living should be a kind of living in which we seek these heavenly things and set our mind on them; this means that we need to live one spirit with the Lord, joining ourselves to the heavenly Christ in His priesthood to intercede, in His ministry to minister Christ to others, and in His administration to release His will on the earth.
If we all set our mind on the things which are above and thus have one living with Christ’s living, the church life will be greatly uplifted.
When we set our mind on the things above we realize that Christ is so much more busy than when He was on earth, for He is interceding for us, He is shepherding all His churches, and He is ministering on behalf of all the saints.
May we join Him in His heavenly enterprise and intercede one with Him for what is in His heart!
Lord Jesus, we set our mind on the things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God and interceding for us as the heavenly High Priest! Amen, Lord, we exercise our spirit to focus not on the things on earth but on the heavenly things. We echo in prayer what You are interceding for in the heavens, and we want to cooperate with You in Your heavenly ministry. Lord, may we have one living with Christ’s living, and may we become on earth a duplication and a reflection of Your heavenly ministry
Being Joined to Christ in His Heavenly Ministry as He Ministers and Administrates for God’s Purpose
In His heavenly ministry Christ does three main things: He is the heavenly High Priest interceding for all the saints and for all the churches, He is the heavenly Minister to supply the saints with the riches of Christ, and He is the universal Administrator of God’s government for the accomplishment of God’s purpose.
When we set our mind on the things above, we have a living one with Christ’s living, and we join Him in His heavenly enterprise to pray and intercede for all the churches, to minister Christ to others, and to echo on earth what He is praying in heaven for God’s purpose.
On one hand we join Christ in His heavenly intercession, and on the other hand we join Him to supply others by shepherding the saints, ministering Christ to them, and serving others with the riches of Christ (Heb. 8:1-2; Eph. 3:8).
We take Christ as life by being joined to Him to minister the riches of Christ to those around us. Christ in His heavenly ministry is living as the universal Administrator of God’s government for the accomplishment of God’s purpose (Rev. 4:1-2, 5; 5:6; Eph. 1:10-11).
From the throne in the heavens, the divine transmission brings the things above into us in the local churches.
Especially as we come together to pray, as the Body of Christ prays together in one accord, in coordination, and in the corporate spirit, frequently the throne in the heavens will transmit something into the members of the Body and bring the things above into the churches.
In this way Christ is administrating God’s government to bring His will to the earth – firstly for the churches, to bind and to lose, and we on earth stand in oneness with the heavenly administration.
In this way we have a living one with Christ’s living and we take Him as our life. If we look at the situation around us, in society, in politics, and among the nations, it’s all a big mess.
In the Lord’s recovery we are not for this side or for that side, for this party or that party, or for this ideology or for that ideology – we are joined to the heavenly throne, and what the throne says is what it counts!
What the throne decides is what will make the day, and we on earth as the churches are under the heavenly transmission and say Amen to the divine decisions, the heavenly government, and we pray that His will be done on earth as it is in the heavens!
In Rev. 4-5 we have the vision of our “central government”, which is the throne in the heavens; in Rev. 1-3 we have a vision of the local churches as the “embassies” to carry out the decision of the “central government”.
Through the seven Spirits, what is in the heavenly “headquarters” is being transmitted into the churches as the “embassies”.
Hallelujah, our headquarters are in the heavens, and all local churches are the embassies of heaven on earth, bringing man to God and bringing God into man!
What takes place in the local churches should be under the direction of the throne of God in heaven; in order for the recovery to be the Lord’s recovery, it must be under His direction (Col. 1:18; 2:19; Rev. 4:2-3).
No matter of the confusion, the division, the rattle, the chatter, the cacophony, and the mess going on around us, no matter of the real news or the fake news, we set our mind on the things which are above to have one living with Christ’s living, and we agree with Him in prayer!
May we all “stick our head out of the cloud” and set our mind on the things above, where Christ is.
May we not spend so much time on these things below but find our what is the direction of the throne, the heavenly will, and be joined to our heavenly Head, Christ!
Lord Jesus, we choose to set our mind on the things above and be joined with You in Your heavenly ministry so that we may have one living with Christ’s living today! Amen, Lord, we are one with You in Your interceding for all the churches and all the saints. We are joined to You in Your heavenly ministry to minister the supply of life to the saints by dispensing the riches of Christ into them. Oh Lord, we receive the divine transmission and we agree with the decisions of the throne of God; we are under Your direction, and what You decide we agree and echo in our prayer! Amen, Lord Jesus!
