The law is God’s living word infusing His substance and element into His loving seekers so that God in Christ would be spirit and life in them and fulfill the law in them.
We need to take every part of the law – all the commandments, ordinances, statutes, precepts, and judgements – as the word breathed out by the God whom we love, and the law and the entire Bible will become God’s living word to us.
The Spirit of reality of whatever God is (John 16:13; 1 John 5:6) will infuse us with Christ as the reality of the law (John 6:63; Eph. 6:17-18; 1 Cor. 15:45; Psa. 119:9).
The law and the entire Bible can be two different kind of things depending on our person; if we are letter-keepers, the law becomes a set of rules for us to keep, but if we are God’s loving seekers, we will come to the law as to God’s living word.
Many times, however, we do not receive life from God’s word because we have problems in our heart; when we come to the word of God we need to exercise not only our spirit but our whole being, especially our heart.
We need to pray that the Lord would save us from having a divided heart; a divided heart is one that is for the Lord but also seeks something else.
We may have a lack of heart, not having a heart for God’s word, or we may have many coverings, hindrances, and frustrations in our heart that keep us from receiving the word of God as the breathing out of God.
Oh, may there be no frustration, covering, or hindrance between us and God, and may we allow God to have a free course in our being to touch anything that He wants to touch!
When we come to the word of God, we need to humble ourselves; the Bible demands that we humble ourselves, put aside our self-confidence and self-assurance, and ask the Lord to have mercy on us and shine on us.
Whenever we humble ourselves and not insist on our own opinions but ask for God’s mercy when we come to the Lord’s word, we will sense that we come into a realm of light.
We need to care for the enjoyment of Christ as we come to His word; for this, we need to muse on the word of God, using the word to worship God, converse with ourselves, pray over, masticate, and speak out loud.
Even when we spend time with the Lord alone in His word, we still need to speak out loud to Him, opening our heart and our mouth, even if this is in a low voice; at least this will keep us from falling asleep or being distracted.
If we are seeking the Lord, we become one with Him by enjoying His word, and when we do this, we will automatically have a life that corresponds to the law as God’s testimony.
The law as God’s living word infuses us with the law-Giver, and what we receive into our being is not a code of “dos and donts” but rather, we are infused with the person who gave the law, the law-giver Himself, and He becomes our living!
May we have a proper heart and an open being when we come to God’s living word so that we may be infused with Him and live Him!
Enjoying and Experiencing the Functions of the Law as God’s Living Word to us
If we look at Psalm 119 we see many wonderful functions of the law as the word of God.
If we merely read the law, the commandments, the precepts, and the ordinances, we may not be very much impressed or helped; but if we seek the Lord and exercise our spirit and our heart when we come to the law, we will be infused with God’s element and the law will become God’s living word to us.
In this article we want to see some of the functions of the law as God’s living word and how we can benefit of these functions for us to be infused with God’s very being and live Christ for the fulfillment of the law.
As God’s living word, the law functions to minister the living God to His seekers (Psa. 119:2, 88). When we exercise our spirit and turn our heart to the Lord, the law becomes the living word of God, and it functions to minister the living God into our being. May we be His loving seekers and not letter-keepers when we come to God’s word!
As God’s living word, the law functions to dispense God Himself as life and light into those who love the law (Psa. 119:25, 50, 107, 116, 130, 154).
The word of God is full of light and life, and when we contact the Lord in His word, we receive life and light; this both enlivens us and causes us to live Christ, and it shines on us and makes our path bright.
How can we have light and know God’s way? It is by coming to the living word of God.
As God’s living word, the law functions to restore man’s soul and make man’s heart joyous (Psa. 19:7-8). When we read the word of God and mix it with our faith in prayer, our soul is restored and our heart is made joyous.
If after spending our time with the Lord in His word we are not restored and our heart is not happy, we need to continue to contact Him until He restores our soul and He makes our heart happy in Him.
Oh, may we take the word in by means of all prayer and petition so that we may be restored in our soul and our heart would be happy in Him!
As God’s living word, the law functions to bring salvation (Psa. 119:41, 170). Amen! We are saved by being in the word of God; we are saved from ourselves, from our concepts, from any evil things, and from anything of the word simply by being in the word of God and by enjoying Christ.
As God’s living word, the law functions to strengthen (v. 28), comfort (v. 76), and nourish us (v. 103).
We can all testify of how the word of God strengthens us into our inner man and makes us strong in faith; the word of God comforts us and nourishes us, imparting the very divine element into our being for our nourishment and supply.
The Lord’s words are sweet to our taste, even sweeter than honey to our mouth; as we come to His word, we are inwardly strengthened, our heart is comforted, and we are nourished with the words of life, the very life of God.
Lord Jesus, we come to Your word as Your loving seekers to be infused with Your element and have You wrought into our being day by day. We exercise our spirit and we turn our heart to You so that You may dispense Yourself as life and light into us. Amen, Lord, Your living word restores our soul and makes our heart joyous, and Your word brings salvation into us. We love to be strengthened, comforted, and nourished as we come to Your Word.
As God’s living word, the law functions to uphold us, keep us safe, and cause us to hope (Psa. 119:116-117, 49).
The evildoers depart from us as we keep the commandments of our God, and by His word we are upheld so that we may live, and we are not ashamed of our hope. By enjoying God’s living word we are both upheld and kept safe, and we are filled with hope.
As God’s living word, the law causes us to enjoy God as our portion (v. 57). It is a great thing for us to enjoy God as our portion; it sounds very simple, but we have a lot of problems, and we tend to try to find solutions to our problems or give others advice instead of coming to the living word of God.
When we contact God and breathe Him in through His word, He becomes the solution to whatever problem we have; even more, He becomes our portion, our rich enjoyment, and the supply for us to go on with Him.
We can all testify that, whether we come to the word of God personally or we are in the meetings of the church, when the word becomes God’s living word to us and we have the hearing of faith, the Lord answers our problems and becomes our portion.
As God’s living word, the law causes us to enjoy God’s countenance (v. 58) and the shining of His face (v. 135). Amen, when we come to the Lord in His word we have His lifted-up countenance over us and we enjoy the shining of His face!
As God’s living word, the law causes us to enjoy God as our hiding place and shield (v. 114) and also enjoy God’s help and well-dealing (vv. 175, 65). We hide in the Lord and we hope in His word; His ordinances help us as our soul lives, and we praise the Lord in His word.
As God’s living word, the law functions to make us wise and give us understanding (Psa. 119:98-99).
When we pray over God’s word and delight in Him, His commandments make us wiser than our enemies for the are always with us, and we have more insight than all our teachers, for His testimonies are our musing.
The word of God makes us wise and full of understanding, for true wisdom is God Himself, and He is infused into us through His living word.
As God’s living word, the law functions to give us proper discernment and knowledge (Psa. 119:66). Proper discernment and knowledge are not merely from studying and getting a degree; they come from the Lord, and He teaches us as we believe in His word and muse on it.
As God’s living word, the law functions to keep us from sinning and from every evil way (vv. 11, 101).
How can we keep our path straight? How can we walk according to God’s way? It is by remaining in the living word of God; His word functions to keep us from sinning and from every evil way.
As God’s living word, the law keeps us from stumbling (v. 165), establishes our footsteps, and causes us to overcome iniquity (Psa. 119:133).
May our footsteps be established in the Lord’s words, and may no iniquity have dominion over us as we abide in the Lord through His word.
Lord Jesus, we come to Your living word to enjoy You as our portion and have God’s countenance and the shining of His face. Thank You Lord, we can hide in You and be safe, and we can enjoy God’s help and well-dealing through His word. It is only by enjoying Your living word that we are made wise and full of understanding, for Your word gives us proper discernment and knowledge. Keep us enjoying You in Your word, Lord, so that we may be kept from sinning and from every evil way. Amen, Lord Jesus, we love to be in Your living word so that we may be kept from stumbling and our footsteps would be established!
As God’s Living Word, the Law Functions to Infuse God into us for us to Live Christ
If we as believers in Christ love God, humble ourselves, and regard the law as His living word through which we contact Him and abide in Him, the law will become a channel through which God is infused into our being.
If we come to the word of God as His loving seekers with an exercised spirit and a heart turned to Him, the divine life and substance are conveyed to us for our supply and nourishment.
As we are being infused with God’s substance through the law as God’s word, we become one with God in life, nature, and expression, and we will spontaneously live a life that expresses God and corresponds to His law.
How can we live Christ and have a living that expresses God? It is by coming to the word of God as His loving seekers and enjoying Christ in God’s living word; in this way, we are infused with His element, and He in us will fulfill the law.
We can fulfill all the righteous requirements of the law as we live and walk according to the spirit.
The Christian life and the expression of Christ should be something spontaneous, something automatic; these are a result and an issue of our coming to God’s living word and allowing Him to infuse Himself into us to live the Christian life in us.
We keep the law not by our own efforts but by contacting the Lord and being infused with Him; in this way the law become not simply God’s commandments but the testimony of God to infuse God into us, His loving seekers.
Lord, we love You, we humble ourselves before You, and we regard Your word as being Your living word through which we can contact You and abide in You! Amen, Lord, may we come to Your word in a living way to be infused with God’s substance in His word so that we may be one with God in life, nature, and expression! Lord, it is only by coming to Your living word and being infused with You that we can spontaneously live a life that expresses God and corresponds to His word!
