Romans 8: How We Experience the Divine Trinity as the Law of the Spirit of Life

For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the spirit is life and peace. Rom. 8:6

Romans 8 may be considered the focus of the entire Bible and the center of the universe, for it speaks of the Trinity in the experience of the Christian life, revealing the processed Triune God as the law of the Spirit of life giving life to our being, and it shows us the all-inclusive Spirit who is making us the same as Christ. Hallelujah!

This week we come to the last week on Romans chapters 5 through 8 – the Kernel of the Bible, and we are focusing mainly on Romans chapter 8; the topic for this week is, The Indwelling Christ.

What is a kernel? In the physical realm, a kernel refers to a nut that has a hard shell, and within the shell, there’s the kernel; people don’t eat the shell but the kernel inside. The kernel is the most nutritious part.

The Bible has a kernel; the most nutritious part of the whole Bible, the most supplying part of the Scriptures, is Romans chapters 5 through 8. These chapters show us the desire of God’s heart to dispense Himself into us in Christ as the Spirit to be our enjoyment.

God in Christ is the Spirit for our enjoyment; He is the very tree of life to be eaten, received, enjoyed, and digested by men. He wants to come into us as our life and our everything, and He wants us to live according to the principle of the tree of life.

What is life? Life is not just a thing or a sensation, nor is life some kind of blessing or outward happiness. Life is mysterious; life is God Himself, for God Himself is the life. God wants us to receive Him as our life.

At the beginning of the Bible, we see that God, according to His eternal economy, has a good pleasure, a heart’s desire, which is that He wants to work Himself in Christ into us, the human beings God created in His image and likeness.

We may have heard this many times in the church life in the Lord’s recovery, but we need to see this in a fresh way today. God’s economy is that He would dispense Himself in Christ as the Spirit into us to be our life and our everything.

God doesn’t want to be merely the God of the heavens. He wants to come into man and work Himself into man. And the way He does it is not the way of outward letters, doctrines, or arrangements; rather, He does it in the way of life, by Him being life to man.

Life is very mysterious, yet it is also very practical and substantial, for life is a reality.

Even though we cannot see or touch this life, we cannot deny that, through regeneration, we have received the divine life. God comes to man to be man’s life; He comes in the form of the tree of life for man to enjoy God and be filled with God. Amen!

Romans 8 is the Focus of the Entire Bible Telling us how to Experience the Divine Trinity in our Christian Life

It had a great and high wall and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names inscribed, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel...And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. Rev. 21:12, 14 Romans 8 may be considered the focus of the entire Bible. In Genesis, the first book of the Bible, we see how God created the heavens and the earth according to His eternal plan, so that man could exist in them to fulfil God’s eternal purpose and desire (Gen. 1:1-26).

God created man in His image and according to His likeness and put man in front of the tree of life (Gen. 2:9). God’s eternal purpose and desire is to impart Himself into His chosen people as their life supply so that they could become His expression.

The book of Revelation, the last book of the Bible, concludes the entire Scriptures with this corporate expression of God, the New Jerusalem.

Chapters 21 and 22 of Revelation describe the holy city, New Jerusalem, as a composition of God’s redeemed people from both the Old and the New Testament (Rev. 21:12, 14).

The New Jerusalem is built with both God and man – man is built into God, and God is built into man. The New Jerusalem fulfils God’s eternal purpose, and this composition is built with the Triune God as the content and God’s chosen people as the expression. Hallelujah!

Between Genesis and Revelation, we have the whole Bible, and in particular, we have Paul’s Epistles, which complete the divine revelation. The focus of Paul’s Epistles is Romans 8; the focus is the point where all the light rays gather together in one point.

Romans 8 is the focus of the entire Bible, and it is also the centre of the universe.

The vast, ever-expanding universe has a focus and a centre, and that is Romans 8; we are in the centre of the universe, and in the centre of our being, we have the indwelling Christ as the law of the Spirit of life, even as the all-inclusive life-giving Spirit dwelling in us.

Romans 8 is not a doctrinal chapter but an experiential chapter; this chapter speaks not about the doctrine of the Trinity but about the Trinity in the experience of the Christian life.

The entire Bible is constituted with the Triune God, for the Divine Trinity is the basic structure of the Bible. From Genesis through Revelation, we can see the Triune God.

Even in Genesis 1:1, the God who created the heavens and the earth is plural, the Triune God. However, many Christians consider the Triune God as a kind of doctrine, a kind of theology, so they organise these doctrines into a kind of study to debate about this.

Go therefore and disciple all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Matt. 28:19 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. 2 Cor. 13:14 Throughout the two thousand years of Christianity, many have debated about the Divine Trinity. However, the Bible and in particular Romans 8 reveal to us the Triune God as being experiential to us in our Christian life and experience.

In Matthew 28:19, we are told that we need to be baptised into the name of the Father, the Son, and the Spirit – into the Triune God.

In John 14-16, we see the Divine Trinity being revealed in a thorough way. Furthermore, in 2 Corinthians 13:14, we see the grace of the Son, the love of the Father, and the fellowship of the Spirit.

The Divine Trinity is not for us to study in a theological seminary or understand in a doctrinal way, but for us to enjoy and experience, even to receive and partake of in our daily Christian life.

Romans chapter 8 in particular shows us the law of the Spirit of life, Christ dwelling in us, we being sons of God and God being our Father, the Spirit witnessing with our spirit, the Spirit of God dwelling in us, Christ being our life, all things working for good for us to be conformed to Christ, and so much more.

Oh, the Divine Trinity is for us to enjoy and experience in our daily Christian life! The Triune God is processed and consummated as the Spirit to be received and enjoyed by men!

May we exercise our spirit as we come to Romans 8 to see and touch the Divine Trinity, even to enter into the reality of what God is to us as the Spirit!

Lord Jesus, we open to You and we come to You to enjoy You and experience You so that we may express You! Thank You, Lord, for being Triune in order to dispense Yourself into us, Your chosen and redeemed people! Hallelujah, the Triune God is not for us to try to understand or study theologically or in a doctrinal way but for us to enjoy and receive today! Amen, Lord, we exercise our spirit to contact You, receive You, enjoy You, and experience You as the Spirit in our spirit! Gain in us what You are after, Lord! Keep us open to Your divine dispensing. Dispense Yourself in Your Divine Trinity as the Father, the Son, and the Spirit in order to obtain Your corporate expression! Gain Your expression in us and among us. Keep us enjoying You and experiencing You in the divine dispensing of the Divine Trinity until we are fully transformed and conformed to Your image so that we may express You corporately! Oh Lord, we open to You!

The Processed Triune God as the Law of the Spirit of Life gives Life to our Whole Being

For the law of the Spirit of life has freed me in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and of death. Rom. 8:2

Romans 8 opens with the law of the Spirit of life, which frees us in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and of death (v. 2). Hallelujah!

The law of the Spirit of life is the subject of this chapter. Life is the content and issue of the Spirit, and the Spirit is the ultimate and consummate manifestation of the Triune God after He passed through a process.

The Triune God passed through the processes of incarnation, crucifixion, and resurrection to become the indwelling, life-giving Spirit who is life to us, the believers in Christ. Praise the Lord!

But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, the spirit is life because of righteousness. Rom. 8:10 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the spirit is life and peace. Rom. 8:6 And if the Spirit of the One who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who indwells you. Rom. 8:11 Romans 8 reveals that the processed Triune God as the law of the Spirit of life gives the divine life to the believers for their living (Rom. 8:2, 6, 10-11, 26-29).

Even though man became fallen and now lives on the line of the tree of knowledge, the line of death, being led astray by Satan, God came to be a man and went through a process to become the life-giving Spirit.

God didn’t stay up there on His throne in heaven waiting for man to worship Him, pray to Him, and do His will. He came out of the heavens and stepped out of eternity into time to live on the earth as a man for thirty-three and a half years.

He lived a life that was sinless and full of righteousness. He died on the cross, being crucified, and in resurrection, He became a life-giving Spirit (1 Cor. 15:45).

Romans 8:2 says that the law of the Spirit of life has freed me in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and of death.

Both Satan and God are in us, the believers in Christ; Satan is embodied in the flesh and expressed through the self, and God as the Spirit, dwells in our spirit.

Even more, both Satan and God, after entering into our being and dwelling in us, work in us not by any outward activities but by an inward and subjective law.

Satan operates in us as the law of sin and of death in the flesh, and God works in us as the law of the Spirit of life in our spirit.

A law is an innate principle, something that works all the time, like the law of gravity. If you throw an apple up in the air, you don’t have to pray and beg God to make this apple fall down to the ground; the law of gravity simply works and makes sure the apple falls.

In the members of our fallen body, in our flesh, there’s a law operating – the law of sin and of death, by which Satan operates in us to impart death into us and keep us in death.

But praise the Lord, there’s another law in our spirit – the law of the Spirit of life, which is the means for God to operate in us to both deliver us from the law of sin and of death and impart life to every part of our being! Hallelujah!

Romans 8 reveals that God’s purpose is to dispense His divine life into His believers, and He does this as the Spirit of life becoming a law which operates in us in a spontaneous way to transmit and dispense the divine life into every part of our being! Praise the Lord!

This is for our daily Christian experience. We can daily turn to the Lord as we encounter all kinds of situations, matters, and things, so that we may enjoy Him as the Spirit of life, even as the law of the Spirit of life operating in us to free us from the law of sin and of death and saturate us with God’s life!

The spiritual life revealed in Romans 8 is fourfold. First, it was the divine life in the Spirit (v. 2). Second, it became life in our spirit through regeneration (v. 10). Then from our spirit it saturates our mind for the transformation of our soul, to which our mind belongs, and becomes the life in our soul (v. 6). Eventually, it will permeate our body and become the life in our body (v. 11), ultimately issuing in the transfiguration of our body (Phil. 3:21), that is, the redemption of our body (Rom. 8:23). Rom. 8:2, footnote 3, Recovery Version Bible The Divine Trinity operates in our being by the law of the Spirit of life in our daily living. Hallelujah!

Romans 8 concerns the all-inclusive, life-giving Spirit as the ultimate consummation of the Triune God; this Spirit will make us exactly the same as Christ in life, nature, and expression. Hallelujah!

Romans 8 reveals the spiritual life in a fourfold way: in the Spirit, in our spirit, in our soul, and in our body.

First, the divine life is in the Spirit (v. 2, the law of the Spirit of life). Then, this becomes life in our spirit through regeneration (v. 10, our spirit is life). Then, as we set our mind on our spirit, this life saturates our mind and transforms our soul to become life in our soul (v. 6).

Eventually, this life will permeate even our mortal body and make it glorious, and it becomes the life in our body (v. 11), ultimately issuing in the transfiguration of our body (Phil. 3:21), the redemption of our body (Rom. 8:23). Hallelujah!

All this is revealed in Romans 8, which is the focus of the entire Bible, for it shows us how the Triune God is experiential to us for the fulfilment of God’s eternal purpose.

Our entire being becomes life, that is, we become the same as God in His life, nature, expression, and function, but in the Godhead! May the eyes of our heart be enlightened for us to see this and enter into this reality day by day!

Lord Jesus, thank You for going through the processes of incarnation, crucifixion, and resurrection to become the life-giving Spirit coming into our spirit as the law of the Spirit of life! Hallelujah, the Triune God has been installed in our being as the law of the Spirit of life to free us from the law of sin and of death and to saturate us with God’s life! Thank You, Lord, for coming into our spirit as life to make our spirit life because of righteousness! We set our mind on our spirit so that even our mind may become life! Amen, Lord, spread from our spirit into our mind day by day. Saturate and transform our soul so that our soul may become life! Saturate even our mortal body and transfigure it by swallowing it up in Your life! Hallelujah, the law of the Spirit of life imparts God’s life into every part of our being to make us the same as Christ in every possible way, even to conform us to His glorious image! Amen, Lord, keep us in this process today!

Romans 8 may be considered the focus of the entire Bible. The Bible begins in Genesis by revealing that God, according to His eternal plan, created the heavens and the earth so that man could exist to fulfill God’s eternal purpose and desire, which is to impart Himself into His chosen people as their life supply so that they could become His expression…The Bible concludes in Revelation with this corporate expression. Revelation 21 and 22 describe the New Jerusalem as a composition of God’s redeemed people from both the Old Testament and the New Testament (21:12, 14). This composition is built with the Triune God as the content and God’s chosen people as the expression. The New Jerusalem thus fulfills God’s eternal purpose. Between these two ends of the Bible are Paul’s Epistles, which complete the divine revelation…Romans 8 is the focus of the entire revelation of God.

The law of the Spirit of life is the subject of Romans 8…Life is the content and issue of the Spirit, and the Spirit is the ultimate and consummate manifestation of the Triune God after His being processed through incarnation, crucifixion, and resurrection and becoming the indwelling, lifegiving Spirit, who is life to all the believers in Christ. The law that has freed us from the law of sin, which is of Satan, who dwells in the members of our fallen body (7:23, 17), is of this Spirit of life…This law of the Spirit of life is the spontaneous power of the Spirit of life. Such a spontaneous law works automatically under the condition that fulfills its requirements. Both Satan and God, after entering into our being and dwelling in us, work within us not by outward, objective activities but by an inward, subjective law. The working of the law of the Spirit of life is the working of the processed Triune God in our spirit; this is also the working of the Triune God in us in His life.

Romans chapter 8 can be considered the focus of the entire Bible and the center of the universe; it is not a doctrinal chapter but very experiential, for it shows us how can we experience the Divine Trinity in our Christian life.

The processed Triune God as the law of the Spirit of life gives the divine life to the believers for their living, and the all-inclusive Spirit is mingled with us to make us the same as Christ by dispensing God’s life into our spirit, soul, and body!

Oh Lord, may we set our mind on our spirit today! May we be in Christ so that the law of life may operate in us! Amen, Lord, keep us open to Your divine dispensing today!

Amen. Lord, we want to set our mind on the Spirit today.

The law of the Spirit of life has freed us from the law of sin and death.

These two laws are dwelling in us and are in opposition with each other.

The more we all the Spirit of life to operate in us, it will permeate our body and become the life in our body, ultimately issuing in the transfiguration of our body.

Amen, Lord may the Spirit of life operate in us in today. Save us from setting out mind on the flesh. O Lord keep us turning to You all the time.

Hallelujah, brother! Rom. 8 may be considered the focus of the entire Bible and the centre of the universe. This is not a doctrinal chapter but an experiential one.

This chapter reveals that the processed Triune God as the law of the Spirit of life, gives the divine life to the believers by indwelling them for their living

It also concerns the all-inclusive life-giving Spirit as the ultimate consummation of the Triune God, which Spirit, will make us exactly the same as Christ in life, nature, and expression.

Lord, bring us daily into experiencing Romans 8, the centre of the universe!

Impart Your Spirit daily into Your saints as our life supply and content for Your expression! We do open to Your divine dispensing, Lord!

Law, the spirit, life, and death are in contrast with each other. God’s eternal purpose is to dispense Himself into us as our life supply to be His expression.

Yes, keep us open always to Your divine dispensing Lord-Spirit.

Brother, Satan and God both work within us not by outward activities but by an inward subjective law.

The Spirit is in opposition to sin, and life is in opposition to death.

The Spirit is embodied in us as grace, living & acting in us. Everything regarding life is included in the Spirit.

Life belongs to the Spirit, and the Spirit belongs to life.

The main function of the law of the SoL is to free us completely from Satan, who works in us as the law of sin & death.

This freeing is for both our subjective justification and our dispositional sanctification.

Romans 8 is the focus of the entire Bible and its subject is the law of the Spirit of life, who is very Triune God embodied as grace to live, and act in us.

As the Spirit, the Triune God is working Himself into us to free us completely from Satan, who dwells in our flesh as the law of sin and death, so that we may become His corporate expression consummated in the New Jerusalem.

Lord, keep us minding the Spirit today to free more from Satan for Your expression!

Dt 11:10-12 For the land which you are entering in to possess is not like the land of Egypt, from which you came forth, where you used to sow your seed and water by foot as in a vegetable garden. But the land into which you are crossing over to possess is a land of mountains and valleys; by virtue of heaven’s rain, it drinks in water. It is a land which Jehovah your God cares for; always the eyes of Jehovah your God are upon it, from the beginning of the year even to the end of the year.

Hebrews 9:4 describes the three contents of the New Covenant in this order: the manna, the rod, and the tablets of the covenant. In other words, grace reigning leads to the release of the law of life. This is like the vision in Ezekiel 47 where the water deepens progressively—grace reigning results in a person being carried forward by the flow of life.

“Oh, deeper yet we pray, Do work in us each day;
Go deeper, through and through, Till in Thee we’re wholly new.”

Rom. 8:2, 6
2 For THE LAW OF THE SPIRIT OF LIFE HAS FREED ME IN CHRIST from the law of sin and of death.
6 For the MIND SET on the flesh IS DEATH, but the MIND SET on the spirit IS LIFE and PEACE.

John 6:63
63 It is THE SPIRIT WHO GIVES LIFE;…

Rom. 7:23,
23 But I see a different law in my members, WARRING AGAINST THE LAW OF MY MIND and making me a captive to the law of sin which is in my members.

The ultimate and final goal of God’s economy is to have God Himself as the content and us as His expression in the New Jerusalem.

From beginning to end, His desire has always been to impart Himself into His chosen ones as our life supply, so that we may express Him fully.

As we build with Him the New Jerusalem, we are fulfilling His eternal purpose.

Yet daily, we are WARRING against our natural mind, which in some of us is still very strong. It’s difficult to let go of years of customs, traditions, cultural habits, human knowledge, personal achievements, hidden resentments, and ambitions—even desires for leadership in the Body. We are tempted to speak, murmur, and judge, both about situations in the local church and concerning other saints.

Therefore, we must learn to properly establish the bridge between our spirit, soul, and body.

The conscience is the bridge between the spirit and the soul, and the heart is the bridge between the soul and the mind. If our conscience is dull and our heart is hardened or indifferent, then even if we claim to have the Spirit, we will end up like the Pharisees—religious in form, but void of reality.

Matthew 15:8
This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart stays far away from Me;

For the Spirit of life to act spontaneously within us, the bridges must be properly established and maintained. As Brother Lee says:

“Such a spontaneous law works automatically under the condition that fulfills its requirements..”

Since both God and Satan are seeking to operate within us, it is absolutely vital that these two bridges—the conscience and the heart—are cared for DAILY. If not, we will remain in the line of death, experiencing something far from the overcoming life the Lord desires for us.

During the training, we have learned that…
(Msg. 5)
1. Our heart and its condition before God are ORGANICALLY, INTRINSICALLY, and INSEPARABLY related to the condition of our spirit, soul, and body before God:

     a. The EXERCISE of the spirit WORKS ONLY when our heart is ACTIVE; if man’s heart is indifferent, the spirit IS IMPRISONED WITHIN and is UNABLE to show forth its capability — Matt. 5:3, 8; Psa. 78:8; Eph. 3:16-17.
      b. The SOUL is the person himself BUT the heart IS THE PERSON IN ACTION; the heart is the ACTING agent, the ACTING commissioner, OF OUR ENTIRE BEING.[VISIBLE TO THE OTHERS!]

We cannot ever trust our heart because:
1. It’s deceitful (Jerem. 17:9)
2. It’s evil (Gen. 6:5; Ecl. 9:3)
3. It’s the source of sin. It defiles us (Mark 7:21-23)
4. It’s untrustworthy (Prov. 28.26)
5. It leads us astray even when we feel we are doing right. (Prov. 14:12)

But hallelujah! If we allow Him, He will give us a new heart (Ezekiel 36:26), and create in us a clean heart (Psalm 51:10)—a heart that knows Him, loves Him, walk with Him, and continually returns to Him with the sweet assurance that we are His people and He is our God.

Then, the law of the Spirit of life will be able to set us free. We will spontaneously worship Him and enjoy Him in our spirit, because the blockages in our heart have been removed. The flow from the spirit to the soul and even to the body will move freely and spontaneously, imparting life—abundant life!

Amen!
