After Abraham defeated the four kings and was on his way back with the spoil and all the people, someone called “Melchizedek” met him and blessed him.
This Melchizedek was a priest of God the Most High, and he was the king of Salem; this one brought out bread and wine and blessed Abraham and the God who delivered his enemies into his hands (see Gen. 14:18-20). Here we see that, seemingly and outwardly, it was Abraham who defeated the four kings and released Lot and the rest of the people, but actually it was God who was delivered his enemies into his hands.
Also, as seen in Exo. 17:8-13, someone (most likely Melchizedek) was interceding for Abraham, Lot, and Abraham’s victory over the enemies – and this is the reason why God gave Abraham the victory.
In our Christian life today many things happen to us, and they may seem “random” or “accidental”, but behind the scenes Christ is interceding for us as our High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek (see Heb. 7:25). Christ is right now interceding for us to be His overcomers to defeat God’s enemies, so that through our victory Christ can be manifested openly in His second coming (see Matt. 26:29).
In order for the Lord Jesus to return, He needs a people who are constantly defeating His enemies (the self, the flesh, the rebellious will, the wild emotions, the troublesome mind, the natural man, etc and all the spiritual powers and authorities that are not on God’s side).
When we as believers in Christ turn to our spirit, we will spontaneously echo what the Lord is praying and interceding for. We will echo the Lord’s prayer in our prayer and, if we go along with that echoing, we will gain the victory – not because of our love for the Lord or because of our spiritual strength but because Christ is interceding for us and He gives us the victory!
At the end of our slaughtering all the kings (God’s enemies), Christ will return and the whole world will know that God is the Possessor of heaven and earth.
Christ is Interceding for us to be His Overcomers and Defeat God’s Enemies for Christ to Return
In Genesis 14 we see how Abraham made the decision to take the men in his house and go after the four kings with their armies, since they captured Lot together with his family and all the people in the plain (where Sodom was). After Abraham defeated the kings and was on his way back with the people and the spoil, Melchizedek, the king of Salem and priest of God the Most High, met him and blessed him.
The significance of this is that behind the scenes Melchizedek was praying for Abraham, Lot, and Abraham’s victory over the enemy, and now that he won the victory, Melchizedek came to bless him.
In our Christian life it is the same: Christ as our High Priest is constantly interceding for us in a hidden way, behind the scenes (see Rom. 8:34; Heb. 7:25) so that we may be His overcomers to defeat God’s enemies! Through our victory over God’s enemies Christ has a way to be manifested until one day He will be manifested openly in His second coming.
In His heavenly ministry, right now, Christ is a High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek: He ministers to us the processed God as our supply (signified by bread and wine, see: the Lord’s table as a symbol) and He intercedes for us to defeat God’s enemies and hasten the Lord’s return.
In our Christian life things happen, of which some are more important and others may seem random or accidental. Actually, in the spiritual realm nothing random or accidental is happening: Christ is interceding for us in the heavens and He cares for us, overshadows us, strengthens us, causes us to go on with the Lord, and empowers us to defeat the enemies.
Who are these enemies? Who are the “kings” that we need to slaughter? There are many “kings” in our mind, our emotion, and our will; our mind is natural and troublesome, our emotion is wild, and our will is either stubborn or very passive. Furthermore, there is the self, the flesh, and many other negative things both in our being and in our environment, in our family, our school, our workplace, etc.
As a result of Christ’s intercession for us, we are able to defeat the enemies and become His overcomers, and this will hasten His return. The Lord wants to come back, and for this He is praying that many of His believers would be His overcomers defeating His enemies and bringing Him back!
When He will return, we will not be surprised: we know Him, we cooperated with Him, and now we are one with Him, enjoying the fruit of the vine in a fresh way with Him (see Matt. 26:29).
Thank You, Lord, for Your constant intercession for us. It is because of Your intercession that we can defeat the enemies and hasten Your return. Lord, gain Your overcomers, those who do not live according to this age but cooperate with Your intercession and defeat God’s enemies! May everything we do and say today, even our very being, contribute to the hastening of Your return. Our desire is to bring You back to be the rightful Possessor of heaven and earth. Come, dear Lord Jesus!
Being those who Echo the Lord’s Intercession and Cooperate with Him
Some believers are very active and zealous for the Lord and the church, while others may be somewhat passive, not very involved in what’s going on….but no matter what natural disposition we have, we need to exercise our spirit and contact the Lord!
The way we can cooperate with the Lord’s intercession is by simply turning to our spirit, contacting the Lord, and echoing what He is praying right now. In Psa. 27:8 we see that the Lord tells us, Seek My face, and we respond, Your face, o Lord, will we seek! He prays, we respond; He intercedes, we echo.
If we go along with this echoing and forget about everything else, we will gain the victory and defeat the enemies.
Melchizedek came after Abraham slaughtered the kings; Christ will return after we have defeated all His enemies. As we touch the Lord in our spirit, there’s an echo in our being and an Amen in our spirit; if we forget our environment, situation, friends, the enemies, and even ourselves – just go according to this echoing within, we will defeat the enemies both within and without, and we will hasten the Lord’s return!
When the Lord will return, all people will know and realize that God is the Possessor of heaven and earth. Today people may think that it is the presidents, the kings, the politicians, or the rules in authority that have control over the earth. But we as believers know the real situation: the earth is the Lord’s!
And as we turn to our mingled spirit to contact the Lord and as we echo His prayer and cooperate with His speaking, we will defeat God’s enemies (not by ourselves but because of His intercession) and hasten the Lord’s return.
The more we turn to our spirit, echo the Lord’s prayer, and go according to this echoing, the closer the Lord’s return will be. Soon all the people will realize the fact that the whole earth and the heaven is the Lord’s, and God is the Possessor of heaven and earth! Come, Lord Jesus!
Lord, keep us turning to our spirit and contacting You that we may echo Your prayer and Your intercession. May we go along with Your intercession and forget about anything or anyone else, so that we may be Your overcomers who defeat Your enemies today. Strengthen us into our inner man to cooperate with Your intercession today and simply go along with You, praying in oneness with You and defeating the enemies within and without. Come, Lord Jesus!
