today our Christ is the kingly High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek

March 30, 2012 by Guest God-man Blogger 3 Comments

today our Christ is the kingly High Priest according to the order of MelchizedekIn Psalm 110 we see Christ as the King with the scepter (Psa. 110:2) and we also see Him being ordained by God to be priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek (Psa. 110:4). On the one hand, Christ is the King with the sceptre to rule over the earth, manage our affairs, and reign in our whole being – He has the power and the authority.

On the other hand, Christ is the High Priest who intercedes for us and takes care of our case before God, continually ministering to us the heavenly things (Heb. 4:14-16; 7:25-26; 9:24; Rom. 8:34; Rev. 1:12-13).

Today Christ is our High Priest

When the Lord Jesus was on the earth He accomplished His earthly ministry to redeem us, produce the church, and defeat Satan in His body. Today Christ is in His heavenly ministry where He is both the King and the High Priest.

As the King Christ has power and authority to rule over the earth and to manage our affairs, and as the High Priest Christ is praying for us, interceding for us, and taking care of our case. In His humanity He is cherishing us to make us happy, pleasant, and comfortable.

In His divinity He is nourishing us that we may grow in life and become mature to be His overcomers who accomplish His eternal economy!

Christ is a Priest according to the order of Melchizedek

Who is Melchizedek? In Gen. 14:18 we see that after Abraham came from slaughtering the kings, Melchizedek met him to minister to him bread and wine. It must have been that before Melchizedek met Abraham he was interceding for him before God, and this is the reason Abraham won the victory (see Exo. 17:8-13).

Today Christ is a priest according to the order of Melchizedek interceding for us in a secret and hidden way (Rom. 8:34; Heb. 7:25) so that we may grow in life, become His overcomers, and defeat God’s enemies to openly express Christ at His coming! Hallelujah, right now Christ is interceding for us before God for this to be accomplished!

According to the whole chapter 7 in Hebrews, we see that the priesthood according to the order of Melchizedek is higher than the Aaronic priesthood. When Christ was on earth He was a High Priest according to the order of Aaron for the putting away of sin through His sacrifice on the cross (Heb. 9:14, 26).

Now in His heavenly ministry, Christ was designated a High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek (Heb. 5:6, 10) to minister God into us as our supply! Christ today doesn’t offer any more sacrifices for sin, but He ministers into us the processed and consummated Triune God (signified by the bread and wine) to be our life supply so that we may be saved to the uttermost (Heb. 7:25).

Christ is our Kingly High Priest

Melchisedec means king of righteousness, and king of Salem means king of peace (v. 2). As the King of righteousness (Isa. 32:1), Christ made all things right with God and made all things right with one another. Righteousness issues in peace (Isa. 32:17). As the King of peace (Isa. 9:6), Christ, through righteousness, brings in peace between God and us, and in such a peace He fulfills the ministry of His priesthood. He is the King who becomes the Priest; thus, His priesthood is kingly, royal (1 Pet. 2:9). (Heb. 7:1, footnote 2)

The matter of Christ being the High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek is so deep and so vast… – I recommend reading Hebrews 7 with all the footnotes and also Gen. 14:18 with all the footnotes in the Recovery Version. On the one hand, Christ is the King (see Psa. 110:1-2 and Heb. 7 in the beginning) and on the other hand, He is the High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek (Psa. 110:4 and the end of Heb. 7).

In His kingship, Christ maintains a condition full of righteousness and peace, and in His priesthood, He ministers the processed Triune God into our being for our enjoyment and supply. He always lives to intercede, and He always ministers God into us!

Lord, keep us open to Your continual intercession! Cause us to see who You are as the Priest according to the order of Melchizedek! May we stop our trying to improve ourselves and our struggling to change our disposition and just open to Your intercession and Your ministering. Keep us enjoying the processed Triune God as our life supply and our portion today, so that we may grow and be matured in life! Lord, we want to cooperate with You in Your heavenly ministry!

    # The Lord hath sworn forever / And never will turn back, / “Thou art a priest forever, / As was Melchizedek.” / Oh, Thou hast no beginning / Of days; of life: no end! / And on Thine intercession / We ever do depend.
    # Lord, grant me today’s supply of grace; / May Your divine life grow apace; / Little by little, day by day, to grow / More and more, into You.
    # He ever lives above / For me to intercede, / His all-redeeming love, / His precious blood to plead. / His blood was shed for all our race, / And sprinkles now the throne of grace.
    # Gathered at Thy table, Lord; / Here the bread and wine are spread. / Thou, our High Priest, present here; / We, by Thee, are richly fed. / Thou, Lord, our Melchisedec— / We, the ones You come to feed; / God to us to minister, / Rich supply to us indeed.
