These days we’re enjoying more and more fellowship of life – the fellowship with the Father and the Son, and the fellowship with all the believers! Today I enjoyed specifically that this fellowship is in spirit – in our mingled spirit! It is not simply the believers getting together, but the believers that enjoy the Lord constantly getting together and exercising their spirit!
The real fellowship among the believers is the fellowship in spirit – the Spirit mingled with our spirit. The Holy Spirit operates in us and causes us, even requiring and compelling us, to have fellowship with the Lord and and with the saints in His life. If we follow and mind the Spirit, He will lead us to live in the fellowship of the Lord’s life – and have fellowship in spirit with the Lord and with the other believers.
In 2 Corinthians 13:14 we see that,
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
Here we see that the Triune God is not for our theological understanding or our mental apprehension but rather He is for our enjoyment! He flows from the Father, in the Son, through the Spirit, in our spirit!
The love of the Father is the source, the grace of the Son is the course and the outflow of the love of the Father, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit is the transmission, the communication, of all the love of the Father and the grace of the Son. To enjoy the Divine Trinity in full is to participate in the love of God, the grace of Christ, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.
Love is God the Father, grace as the outflow of love is Christ the Son, and the fellowship is the transmission of the Holy Spirit to transmit what the Son is as grace and what the Father is as love. This transmission of the Holy Spirit of all the riches of the Triune God is the fellowship of the Spirit!
Today there’s a divine circulation, a divine transmission, of the Triune God through the Spirit in our spirit! Just as the circulation of blood is vital for our human living, so the circulation of the Holy Spirit is vital for our Christian life and our church life! This divine circulation of the Spirit in our spirit is the supply for our Christian life and our church life!
We must see this – the fact that the entire church life depends upon the love of the Father, the grace of the Son, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit to flow as a current within our spirit. Our Christian life and our church life depend on us enjoying the continual flow of the Triune God in our spirit!
Our spirit is the location of the fellowship of life – we are joined to the Lord as one spirit (1 Cor. 6:17). This is why when we meet with other believers, we need not just to simply be gathered but even more we need to exercise our spirit!
Our contact with one another must be in the mingled spirit, or otherwise it is simply a human social contact. When we contact one another in spirit, our contact becomes the fellowship. The entire Triune God is for our enjoyment and partaking in our mingled spirit – we can enjoy Him both personally and corporately by exercising our spirit to receive His flow and even flow Him out to the others!
It is not just about us understanding the divine dispensing of the Divine Trinity (in our mind), or being happy about this (in our emotion) – it is about us being in our mingled spirit! We need to simply turn to our spirit again and again until we live according to our spirit all the time.
Also, when we meet together, we need to continue to exercise our spirit, so that our fellowship may be full of the divine life – together, we’re enjoying the transmission of all that the Triune God has and is! Lord, save us from merely having a social gathering with the saints – remind us to exercise our spirit! We want to really have fellowship in spirit, Lord, by exercising our spirit all the time! Thank You for the flowing Triune God – always flowin from eternity into us! Keep flowing in us, Lord – keep transmitting all Your riches into us! Operate in us both the willing and the working out of Your will – more enjoyment and partaking of the flowing Triune God! Operate in us until we co-operate with You to turn again and again! Even in our meeting together, Lord, we want to be in our spirit so that we may have real fellowship in spirit!
