Singing the Word in the Morning – Practicing Morning Revival

July 4, 2017 by Guest God-man Blogger Leave a Comment

Psalm 119:147-48 I anticipated the dawn and cried out; I hoped in Your words. My eyes anticipated the night watches, That I might muse upon Your word.I would like to share a practice I have been enjoying recently: that is, singing the Word of God in the morning.

Psalm 119:147-48 reads “I anticipated the dawn and cried out; I hoped in Your words. My eyes anticipated the night watches, That I might muse upon Your word.”

Oftentimes, when I approach this matter of “morning revival”, I have concepts regarding how to “do” morning revival:

Step 1: Call on the Lord a few times. Step 2: Pray-read a verse. Step 3: Read the morning nourishment.

After following this formula for a long time, I realized I had fallen into a form and was not actually getting revived. I was checking off my “duty” of morning revival, but I was not touching the Lord in a fresh and living way.

Then, I began to get desperate and prayed to the Lord to revive me in the morning! I had recently listened to an audio recording of a brother sharing about how to use the hymns (see this article via AgeTurners).

His fellowship really inspired me to get into singing the hymns in a new way. Formerly, I had limited my hymn singing to the meetings. Now, I began to explore the riches of these spiritual songs in my own, private times with the Lord.

Wow, did I discover a treasure trove of riches! When I began to sing, muse upon, and eat these hymns, I began to enter into the experience and enjoyment of these hymn writers.

I especially enjoyed singing Scripture songs. Previously, I had pray-read the Word in a dead kind of way. But now, when I began to sing the Word with my spirit, I got revived! The Word began so enjoyable to me!

By singing to the Lord, I was ushered richly into the Lord’s presence and into His dispensing. Now, in the morning, I always bring my hymnal with me.

Singing enables me to have a rich entrance into the presence of the Lord in such a sweet and enjoyable way. May we all endeavor to practice singing to the Lord in the morning.

Lord, how we love your Word! How we love to muse upon your Word!

Sharing by bro. Daniel D (San Jose, CA, USA) concerning his experience and enjoyment in practicing the morning watch and morning revival. What is your experience with the Lord in the morning? Share it with us as a comment below, or email it to be considered for posting at [email protected].
