In Christ and By the Organic Union with God we are Sons of God and Sons of Abraham

When you read the story of Abraham, how God called him and promised him a seed which fulfills God’s purpose, you may be “happy for Abraham” but may wonder what does this have to do with you.

Abraham was a Hebrew, a Jew, someone called out by God and chosen by Him to be part of His people. But what about us today, the Gentiles, those who are not Jews by natural birth?

If you read the book of Galatians, especially chapter 3, you will see a secret of becoming part of the “seed of Abraham”: by faith in Christ Jesus. Through faith in Christ Jesus, the One who is the unique seed of Abraham, we all can become sons of God and sons of Abraham (see Gal. 3:7, 26, 29). This is amazing!

The promised seed to Abraham is Christ, the Messiah, and this One has become the life-giving Spirit (1 Cor. 15:45) to enter into us and be joined with us as one spirit (1 Cor. 6:17).

When we hear the gospel and believe into Jesus Christ, we are brought into an organic union with Him, and in this organic union we are given the authority to become children of God (John 1:12-13), even sons of God and sons of Abraham through faith (see Gal. 3).

Faith is not a mental exercise to receive and believe certain doctrines or truths in the Bible; faith is an organic reaction to God’s appearing, in which we spontaneously believe into Him because of God’s infusing and transfusing of His element into us.

In this joining and uniting faith we become sons of God and sons of Abraham, and we enjoy all the promised blessing to Abraham. How wonderful! We, sinners, can be made sons of God through faith in Jesus Christ, and through believing into Christ Jesus we are sons of Abraham according to faith, enjoying all the promised blessing to Abraham! Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!

Through Faith in Christ, We Become Sons of God

The only way someone can become a son of God is by being born of God; otherwise, he could be called “an adopted son” but not a “son of God.” The way human beings can become sons of God is through faith in Christ Jesus.

We are born in sin and under law, and we are in the old creation, living in our natural man. But when the God of glory appears to us – as He appeared to Abraham – we are being infused with Him and we spontaneously believe into Him.

Whenever the New Testament speaks of believing it always says, “believe into”. To believe in something means to believe it exists and acknowledge it’s existence objectively. But to believe into someone involves a relationship, something of life, even an organic union.

When we obey the law, we become law-keepers with nothing of the divine life. But when we believe into Christ, we become believers, sons of God, having a relationship in life with God. We were born in Adam (in sin) and under the law, but we have been reborn in Christ by our believing into Him, and now we are sons of God!

When we first heard the gospel, an appreciation rose in us toward the wonderful Person of the Lord Jesus, and we believed into Him. Through believing into Christ we were brought into an organic union with Him and we were joined to Him. In this organic union with Christ, in whom is the sonship, we are now sons of God (John 3:15-16).

Faith is not an agreement with some doctrines or an objective acknowledgement of some spiritual facts; faith is a subjective interaction with the One into whom we believe.

We must be identified with Christ through faith in Him so that in Him we may be sons of God. To be identified with Christ simply means that we are grafted into Him: we are organically joined to Him and now there’s a process of growth together.

When we believed into Christ, the divine life with the divine nature came into us and we were born of God to become sons of God, God-men (see 1 John 3:1; John 3:15-16, 6). According to the Bible, all those who believe into Christ, that is, who receive Him, are God-men, those who have the divine being of the Triune God entering into them and living in them to make them sons of God, God-men!

Our True Status: in Christ and by the Organic Union we are Both Sons of God and Sons of Abraham

Our True Status: in Christ and by the Organic Union we are Both Sons of God and Sons of Abraham

1 Cor. 1:30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became wisdom to us from God: both righteousness and sanctification and redemption.

How can we, Gentiles and sinners, become sons of Abraham and sons of God? Can we be “re-born” into a Jewish family to become “sons of Abraham”?

The key is in 1 Cor. 1:30 which says, It is of God that you are in Christ Jesus! God has put us into Christ Jesus through our faith in Christ; because we are in Christ as the Son of God, we are sons of God, and since Christ is the son of Abraham, we are also sons of Abraham.

In ourselves we are not much, but in Christ, we are both sons of God and sons of Abraham. This is our true status! Our real status is that in Christ, in the organic union with Him, we are sons of God and sons of Abraham (Gal. 3:7, 26, 29).

The sphere in which this takes place is Christ, and by abiding in Him in our organic union with Him, we enjoy the promised blessing and all the benefits of being sons of God (John 15:4-5). As long as we are in Christ, we are sons of God. As long as we are in Christ, we are the true sons of Abraham.

Christ is the unique seed promised to Abraham, and He is the only One qualified to accomplish redemption and terminate the old creation. But through our faith in Christ we are joined to Him to be part of the corporate seed of Abraham, and we are included in this unique seed not in the fulfillment of the promise but in the inheriting of the promise and in its enjoyment!

All those who have been baptized into Christ and have put on Christ (Gal. 3:27-28) are now in Christ and are sons of God and sons of Abraham.

Now our living should be no more by our natural life, our old way of living as our parents and family used to live, but in a new way of life: a life by the divine life in us which makes us sons of God and sons of Abraham. Our Christian living should be in the organic union with the Lord, abiding in Him, and living by the Spirit.

When we abide in Christ, when we remain in the organic union, we inherit the promise made to Abraham and we enjoy the blessing of this inheritance. Christ Himself as the all-inclusive life-giving Spirit is the very blessing of the promise given to Abraham, and we can enjoy Him as such a One today by faith! What can we say but, Hallelujah, praise the Lord!

Thank You Lord for appearing to us, infusing us with Yourself to be the believing element in us, and making us sons of God and sons of Abraham! Thank You for bringing us into an organic union with You by faith in Christ Jesus. It is of God that we are in Christ Jesus, and in Christ we are sons of God and sons of Abraham! Praise You, Lord, for this marvelous organic union in which all that God promised to Abraham is our inheritance and enjoyment today! Keep us abiding in You and living one spirit with You today!

    # I couldn’t, Lord, believe, / But, Lord, You still appeared. / Your life in me conceived, / Dear Lord, I now believe. / You called not being as being / In me conceiving. / Your life transfusing, / I’m now reacting. / O God of glory, / You’re now my story. / Dear One, I can’t refuse! / By You, I’ve been transfused. (Howard Higashi song on, God of Glory)
    # He who is joined to the Lord is one spirit. / Our life is a life that’s in organic union. / As a branch is in the vine, / Grafted, His life and mine intertwine. / Lord, I am joined to You!  (new song on 1 Cor. 6:17, joined to the Lord)
    # We have received Christ the Spirit / Through faith and not our merit; / Having begun by the Spirit, / We learn to live by faith. / We are the sons of the living God, / Enjoy the blessings of our Lord, / Grace to our spirit He doth afford, / From our self-effort freed. (new song on, Sons of God living by the Spirit)
