Christ as the Servant of Jehovah is typified in Isaiah by king Cyrus, the people of Israel, and the prophet Isaiah

February 21, 2011 by aGodMan 8 Comments

Christ as the Servant of Jehovah is typified in Isaiah by king Cyrus, the people of Israel, and the prophet Isaiah Christ is the Servant of Jehovah, and because Christ is so great and woderful, the entire Bible is full of types of Christ – people that typify Christ as the Servant of Jehovah. In the book of Isaiah especially we see that there are three particular persons who typify Christ – king Cyrus, the prophet Isaiah, and the people of Israel.

King Cyrus, though a Gentile king over the nation that were the rulers over the people of Israel, is presented in Isaiah as a good type of Christ – God chose Cyrus, He prepared Cyrus, He loved Cyrus, and He appointed Cyrus to carry out His commission. In many of the places where it talks about king Cyrus (God’s servant) you have the impression that it is talking about Christ and not a Gentile king…

In the same way, the people of Israel as a corporate servant of Jehovah typifies Christ, and Isaiah as the prophet of Jehovah also typifies Christ. Because our Christ as the Servant of Jehovah is so rich in attributes and in His being, He needs at least three persons in Isaiah only to typify Him!

In the Gospels we see at least four aspects, and in Isaiah we see at least three people who typify Christ as the Servant of Jehovah! What a rich and all-inclusive Christ we have!

All these three persons in Isaiah that typify Christ as the Servant of Jehovah did the same thing as the Lord Jesus did when He was on the earth, and also the same thing as we, the corporate reproduction, duplication, and continuation of the Servant of Jehovah are doing today!

The three main things king Cyrus, the prophet Isaiah, and the people of Israel did as the Servant of Jehovah are: they served God to release God’s people from captivity, they built God’s house, and they built up God’s kingdom(signified by the city).

When the Lord Jesus Himself was on the earth, He also did the same thing – He released the captives, he built up the church as the Body of Christ, and He established God’s kingdom among people on earth! He was the fulfillment of the prophecy in Isaiah 61:1-2 which says,

1. The Spirit of the Lord Jehovah is upon Me, Because Jehovah has anointed Me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent Me to bind up the wounds of the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the eyes to those who are bound;
2. To proclaim the acceptable year of Jehovah And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn;

How we need to see a vision of Cyrus, Israel, and Isaiah typifying Christ! When we see that these three persons typified Christ in what Isaiah says about them, we will realize that we are today’s Cyrus, we are today’s Israel, and we are today’s Isaiah!

We believers are also the servants of Jehovah, doing the same thing as the Lord Jesus and these three persons did: we preach the gospel to release God’s people from captivity, we build up His temple (the church, the house of God), and we build up His kingdom (the city)!

When you think about it and you really consider this, you will realize that there’s no greater profession or job on the earth than being those who carry out what is on God’s heart! This makes us happy, and this satisfies both us and God! If we give ourselves to accomplish the desire of God’s heart, we are truly the wisest men on the earth! This is the best job and if we do this job faithfully, we will have the best destiny!

When we give ourselves to the Lord to accomplish what is on His heart, we are being terminated and replaced with Him, and Christ as the Servant of Jehovah will serve God in us according to how and what God wants! This is the way we become the corporate Christ as the continuation of Christ – by giving ourselves to the Lord to be His servants, those who accomplish what is on His heart – no longer us but Christ, Him living again in us, with us, and through us!

[enjoyment from the Morning revival on the Crystallization-study of Isaiah (2) and the life-study of Isaiah, by brother Witness Lee]

Amen, Lord, make us those who meet Your need – those who are after Your heart, who accomplish what is on Your heart! We want to have this highest profession and this best job – carrying out Your heart’s desire! Continue to unveil us to see how Christ is typified by Cyrus, Isaiah, and the people of Israel! Lord, make us Your duplication – make us Your reproduction! We don’t want to just be “happy that we are saved” – we want to be Your servants, those who serve You by taking Christ as our pattern and allowing Him to replace us daily!
